This was my second tour with the same company. I enjoyed it the first time so much that I decided to take my husband and another couple on the tour. The guide we had was even better than the first one. I think his name was Kirk (?) and he provided so much information, pictures and fun! We all found the history of the market so interesting and, of course, enjoyed the tastings provided. We went back and purchased some items from the various stores and had a snack at one of the restaurants he took us into. To sum up - a wonderful experience. I now plan on taking the same group to the Greenwich Village Tour.

The tour was enjoyable and delicious. It was made especially fun by the entertaining and knowledgeable tour guide we had - Curt. If you take this tour, ask when he is doing it.

The food we tasted was very good, but I would have liked to sample additional choices. Our tour guide (Curt), although not a native New Yorker, was excellent , and very well informed. His presentation was humorous, enthusiastic and interesting. As a lifelong New Yorker I appreciated all three.

Let me start by saying that I love everything about NYC and have come back often--for the last 52 years. I try to take at least one walking tour each time I visit... I feel it is the best way to really get to know & feel the particular area. This Chelsea/Meatpacking Tour was wonderful. Our tour guide was great--he was enthusiastic, knowledgable, helpful, and fun. I have already suggested this tour to my New York friends.

This tour and the wonderful guide Todd was one of our favorite events while spending 5 days in NYC. We had a small group of 7 at noon on Sunday which added to our enjoyment. The food tasting was great. We feel like we have been part an event and an area that will become a big tourist attraction in the next years as the words gets out and as the Meat Packing area grows with shops and restaurants. I would recommend it to anyone.

Far better than our expectations. Our guide (Erick?) was informative and funny. The pace was great, we saw a corner of NYC that we didn't know and had some great food as well. After talking to friends who live in NYC and thought htey knew the area, we realize we now know it much better. Thanks

Visiting a New Frontier

While having been in NYC a hundred times, I had never been to Chelsea Market and the Meat Packing District. It was a neighborhood that your mother told you to avoid, (part of the appeal no doubt). I was in town for the Big East basketball tourney and found this tour via City Search. I am fond of walking tours in NYC, London and wherever I find them. This is the first tour sponsored by Zerve I've taken. First, the sampling of different foods in a wholesale envirnoment was new and fun. Subsequently, I returned to the area the next day for lunch and for dinner at two of the places we had seen on the tour; good food, pricey, "Sex in the City" crowd. Secondly, I enjoyed the "other" discoveries at least as much as the advertised food tour, e.g., High Line Rail, meat on hooks on the sidewalk, Stella McCartney shoe store, Coyotte biker bar. Tour guide's insights re: history and tranistion of neighborhood were very interesting. Also visited an art exhibit in the neighborhood after the tour ended. The tour guide was entusiastic, well informed, and responsive to questions. Group was a good mix of age, sex, interests, etc. The limit of 10 persons per tour, mine was at max, was just right; more would have been a problem of logistics as well as chemistry. This tour costs more than others but the price was about right for the value received. Price is the main reason I did not give this 5 stars. I will take a Zerve tour again and have recommended it to others.

My husband and I had a great time learning about the history of the Meatpacking District of yesteryear in NYC and one man's vision to develop the Chelsea Market. Our guide, Bob, was the best - very knowledgeable, enthusiastic, with a great sense of humor. There were a variety of food samplings of generous proportions and all were very tasty. We did not walk away hungry. I highly recommend this tour to those who like to learn about the culture and history of our nation.

Too expensive, too crowded, bad food quality

Our guide was quite knowledgeable, a show-off but polite individual. On the Sunday we took the tour the Chelsea market was too crowded which made moving around as a group difficult. We were disappointed with the quality of the food. Everything was just packed with calories, nothing was healthy. Besides, on the times we were sitting to try food there was never enough chairs for everybody in our group. I have done already the tour on the West Village and it was much, much better in terms of information about the neighborhood, the food and the quality of the whole experience . Honestly, I do not recommend the Chelsea Market- Meat packing area to any one. You can find all the information the guide provided in any guide of NY. So, go by yourself to the Chelsea Market, the Highland Park, choose your own food and save the tip to the waiter in a good restaurant.
