Find out how a neighbourhood works.

Curt is a professional guide. Uses his background as a stand up comic to assess the group in order to tailor his delivery. He does not phone in his tour of duty. For a tourist, New York is full of neighbourhoods that would not likely to be visited without guidance - but once done in this format we would have no qualms in returning on our own. While the foodie context was marginal, the feel and history of the place was well shared.

Many thanks to our knowledgeable and entertaining guide, Kurt. We learned a tremendous amount about the shops and specialty foods. We also had a wonderful tour of the neighborhood. I've already bought tours as gifts for family members.

Good Food and Good Time

In short: This tour is MUST if you live in Manhatten and highly recommended if you dont. I was not as full as I expected, but also was not hungry at the end of the tour either. About the tour guide: I was so impressed with our tour guide, Kurt (or maybe it was Kirk). He took the time to learn everyone's name, where they were from and who they were traveling with. He continued to address each of us individually throughout the tour ensuring he had our attention and kept us engaged. Not only was he funny, but he really made all of the details of the area stand out with his interesting facts and the way he presented each place. He gave tips for buying vegetables and even gave a few receipe ideas. Between him and the group as a whole, this is my favorite tour thus far. About the tour: The portion sizes for the food was smaller than I expected, but we received samples at more places than I expected, so it evens out. From chocolate milk to jams to grilled cheese to pasta, everything was delicious. My only regret is that I do not live in NYC where I could frequent this marketplace gem. It had everything in one location, just multiple stores specializing in their own food. But just because you cant buy the fresh, raw meat to cook yourself or the fresh milk doesnt mean your tour is fruitless, each place has prepared food options that are just as delectible. The majority of the time was spent inside the market. It was cold though, so I didnt mind. We went up to the highline and then walked through part of the meat packing district. This part of the tour seemed a little rushed and vague, but it doesnt make me change my opinion of the tour overall.

One Of The Best Ways To Learn About NYC

A couple of us were visiting from Texas and we did the Chelsea Market/Meatpacking District food tour. It is a 3 hour tour (that flies by) that is filled with history, stories, and delicious food (LOTS of it). I've done a few tours of NYC and I have to say this tour has by far one of the best. Highly recommend!

Best Tour Ever!!!

My partner signed us up for this tour as a birthday present to me, because he knows I'm a Foodie. We had an amazing time. Curt, our tour guide, was the one who made the tour as good as it was. Besides being extremely knowledgeable in all aspects of the tour, including the stores and restaurants we went to, history, etc., he was able to memorize the first names of all 17 of us on the tour within minutes of meeting us. And, his sense of humor had us laughing out loud many, many times. The tour, itself, is definitely worth the money and we went back to a few places right after the tour ended to make purchases. We will definitely be going on more food tours with this company, and bringing more people, too. Anyone taking this tour should make sure they get Curt as their guide. You will NOT be disappointed!!! Thanks for a great time on my birthday.

The highlight of our trip to New York

We did many things during our trip to New York but the Chelsea Market/Meat Packing tour was the highlight of the trip. The market was a sight to see and the food was beyond delicious. On top of that, our guide Kurt was the best tour guide I have ever encountered; he is so knowledgeable and extremely funny. The only down side is the tour seemed to fly by so fast and I was not ready for it to be over even though I was full of food.

Highlight of our trip

Although the tour information suggests that younger children may not appreciate all aspects of the tour, our 9 year year old son said that this was the best part of our trip to NYC! Our tour guide Bob was fantastic; a wealth of knowledge and he answered any questions we had about the area. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone young or old with or without young children. We will do another tour when we come back again.

Surprising and quiet discovery in a loaded NYC
Mon, Dec 31, 12   10:00 AM Barteld Male 60-69 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Chelsea Market, High Line Park, Meatpacking District: all unknown areas for an international tourist in NYC, with many surprising facets. "European" restaurants, excellent shops, a "high-level" park and a part of the city with interesting old/new architecture. Add to this an enthusiastic guide and it's clear why I recommend this tasting tour. One drawback: the price is quite high, certainly for the food you get and the fact that you are expected to generously tip the guide at the end of the tour.

Informative, delicious and fun!

Christmas gift for the family included three adult grandchildren too. Everyone enjoyed our day together. Bob our guide was enthusiastic and well informed about the history of Chelsea Market and the entire area of the city. When the tour was over everyone wanted to go back to the Market to purchase the things that they had tasted. Red velvet cupcakes, great cheese, chocolate milk, salami, mozzarella plus a few things we hadn't tasted. The pasta at Macelleria was outstanding. We will go back when the weather is warmer to enjoy the Highline. My daughter will submit photos.
