As a former licensed tour guide, I am very critical of tours and tour guides.
Sampson did an excellent job as he educated us about the history and continuing development of the area. He was fun and personable, interjecting his information with well-presented stories and anecdotes to keep it interesting. No reciting memorized facts like a robot here! He used a nice conversational tone as if you were being shown around by an old friend.
The group size was good. I prefer fewer than 10, but I understand that's not always feasible. We were able to navigate through the area and within the shops with relative ease as well as be able to hear him when he spoke to us. I would imagine if Chelsea Market and the surrounding area had been more crowded (we went on a Sunday morning), it would have seemed like too many.
The pace of the tour allowed some opportunity to chat with the other tourists a bit during tastings. Discovering commonalities and getting to know each other made the tour even more enjoyable, feeling like we were all friends touring together.
Do not make the mistake of eating breakfast before you go! They were not exaggerating when they say you will have done enough tasting to skip lunch. Unless, of course, you are an extremely picky eater who doesn't love cookies, lobster bisque, antipasto, gelato and more! (Then again, why would you consider a food tour in the first place?)
I was not disappointed in the least. I was initially leery by the words "Meatpacking District." I was relieved that I didn't have to see parts of an animal I can still recognize hanging in a warehouse. Supposedly, there is opportunity to do so during the week, but not on a Sunday when I went so that worked out just fine for me.
My only regret (besides the bagel I ate on the way to meeting the tour!) is that we didn't learn about it early enough to book a tour at the beginning of our time in NYC. I would have loved to have had the time to fully explore Chelsea Market and try a couple of the recommended restaurants in the area. Oh well, next trip!

The food tour that we did was just wonderful. Each one of us talk about how the tour guide was very good. He made the tour so exciting. This was the best tour that we have taken. I would recommend it to any one. |

This was my first time at Chelsea Market and I loved it. Our tourguide, Curt, was great. He was very friendly, personable, and funny and he made the tour interesting and a lot of fun. We tried so many really great foods and drinks. I actually couldn't believe how much food we were given, so much so that I was full by the end. Of course, everything we sampled was delicious. I can't wait to return to Chelsea Market to spend some quality shopping time there. |

We had a blast taking this tour. The food was great, our guide Darel was FABULOUS.
We arrived late, but that was Ok , Darel went back and made sure we got the full tour. I would do this again and again. |

Though our tour guide was knowledgeable and entertaining, two hours is way to long to be in a converted food plant. Add another hour just walking around the meat packing and industry and you've got a bad review. Sorry. The food was good, but the whole tour could have been wrapped up in two hours. |

The tour was alot of fun and very interesting. The market and its merchants were very welcoming and the tastings were delicious and appreciated. the history portion and surrounding area portion could be expanded upon, then i'd give the tour the highest rating. |

My husband and I were given this tour as a gift. We live in New york City but have not really explored what the meat packing district has to offer. We enjoyed our tour so much. The food was wonderful and the knowledge of our guide was amazing. He took us to little out of the way places that we never would have known about. We have recommended it to many friends. We are looking forward to taking another tour soon. |

The tour was very good with great food but I must say that Kirk our guide was the best. He is knowledgable, funny and very engaging. I would take another tour with him without hesitation. This is my third tour with your company and Kirk was the BEST! |

This tour combined two of my favorite things: eating and learning about the history of NYC. The guide was knowledgeable, energetic, and humorous. I have already recommended this tour to others. |

This tour is for you. The Chelsea Food Market is a wonderful comibination of food perveyors under one roof. Loved the pace and variety of food we sampled during the tour. It's a great way to spend a few hours "lunching" with fellow foodies. And the tour guide was fabulous! Must do while in NYC... and even if you're a local! |
