Our tour guide, Curt, was very energetic and entertaining. He was extremely knowledgeable about Chelsea market and the history of the surrounding area. He was also hilarious which made the tour a hoot. Loved it!

We had an amazing tour guide named Curt. He had great energy and was very personable. By the end of the tour we did not need to grab lunch since the tastings were amazing. I loved the tour so much that I will look into the other food tours in NYC. If you have the chance to do this tour, I would not pass this opportunity.

Huge Fan of the Foods of New York Tours

In mid-May, a group including myself and four friends did the Chelsea Market / Meatpacking District Food Tasting Tour. We all thoroughly enjoyed it. It was my third Foods of New York Tour, so I knew what to expect. It was a first for the others. I would definitely recommend this tour to any first timer to New York City. It's a great way to see a particular area of the city and get familiar with what they have to offer. The Chelsea Market is fabulous - our tour was on a Saturday, so it was very busy. Lots and lots of people and long lines for the restrooms. The food more than makes up for all of that. The character of the buildings themselves are wonderful. Bob, our guide, was very knowledgeable about the history of the buildings and how they came to be the Chelsea Market. The food art is fantastic - be sure to stop and have a look. Now to the food - you definitely won't go away hungry and you won't need lunch. My favourite was the grilled cheese with fig jam and sea salt from Lucy's Whey on ciabatta from Amy's Bread - so delicious! Also the biscuit and spreadable fruit from Sarabeth's, the red velet cupcake from Eleni's and the chocolate milk from Ronnybrook Farm Dairy - tasted just like a melted fudge stick - so divine. Then there's the pork and sage roll from The Tuck Shop and the mushroom crostata from buon Italia (I think?) And there's more too! Bob was a wonderful guide and definitely knew the history of the area and the market itself. It was clear that he enjoys being a guide and has worked at developing relationships with the owners of the various stores/stalls in the market. The tour itself ran very smoothly and it's clear that's due to Bob and his skills at keeping his group together and moving. When we moved outside the market - it was great to see some of the Chelsea / Meatpacking District and we even got to go inside to see the interior of one of the high-end restaurants in that area (Morimoto). Walking on part of the High Line was a treat - what a beautiful outdoor park and such a creative and innovative way to reuse / recyle part of the history of the area. The one restaurant we visited outside of the market was Macelleria - we had a sit down tasting here and the pasta was scrumptious. At the end of the tour we actually went back to the market and did some shopping at some of the shops we visited during the tour - lots of options for take-home goodies. This tour is great for anyone who loves food and is interested in the history and background of the various neighbourhoods in NYC. Lots of food, lots of walking and lots of information. I look forward to my next visit and my next Foods of New York Tour!

This tour was one of the highlights of our 4 day stay in New York City. Our guide, Diana, was so knowledgeable, friendly, enthusiastic, and entertaining - she was terrific. She kept us focused and on schedule but in a funny polite way. can't wait to really spend some time here and shop on our next trip back. We will definitely take advantage of your other tours also.

Great guide and history, food needs more variety

Bob was terrific, knowledgable and personable. Food was plentiful and tasty, but too much of the same things. Cupcake, cheese on bread, grilled cheese, more bread, biscuit, frittata 9doughy crust), meat pie, (pastry crust), pasta. All that starch... Felt disgusting after the tour. I realize this does not have to be a health food tour but something green? Some vegetable?

interesting tour but (EU tourists)regular tastings

The guide (Bob) was very enthusiastic about the food and the locations (chelsea market, highline and meetpacking) we visited and he was very caring, entertaining and fun. The food we got to taste was nice, but we (maybe because we are from europe, maybe because we are experienced world travellers, maybe because we are food-lovers and at any place will buy unusual food to taste for ourselves, maybe because of the price of the tour) expected more special or unusual tastings. Like things we wouldn't normally buy or try for ourselves. Overall it was a nice tour, but we expected and would have liked a little more new and exciting experiences/tastings. And it was a bit disappointing for us not to have a tasting at the lobster hall, so we went back to the chelsea market and did a tasting for ourselves after the tour (and after a walk on the highline to burn some of the calories :)) We would recommend this tour for people who like to get introduced to the chelsea market, meetpacking and highline area and to those who are hesitant to try new (unusual) food for themselves to taste.

Informative as well as delicious

Our tour guide, Bob, knew what he was talking about--the Chelsea Market, the Highline and the Meatpacking District. I live in Chelsea and was going on the tour for my visiting sister-in-law. I thought I knew about the three areas but Bob was w-a-a-a-y more knowledgeable than I was about my own neighborhood! Food was a nice selection and good portions. The only thing I might recommend would be a little gelato toward the end or the first treat (don't want to spoil the surprise) later in the tour rather than at the beginning. But, basically, it all worked!

tour was interesting and food was delicious

we enjoyed the tour itself but the guide's voice was annoying and she talked very fast so it was difficult to absorb everything. i am lactose intolerant and when signing up for the tour i noticed that there were no accomodations for special diet requests. there were 4 places in a row that were milk related so i could eat none of those foods. the tour guide said she felt bad that i had to abstain for so long. i also felt that we weren't given any time to make any purchases so at the end of the tour we couldn't remember where we wanted to return to make a purchase.

Great Tour of Chelsea Food Market

Curt, the guide was fantastic and has an amazing capacity to everyone's names, and to fully involve them with the tour. The food was great; one of our party was vegetarian and was catered for. Would highly recommend this tour to others. Afterwards, we wandered around all the stores, buying goods with the vouchers, and eating yet more food. Thanks.
