I discovered that I did another tour with this company - the original greenwich tour. This tour relative to the Greenwich one is not as good. I enjoyed walking around the village & tasting food from different shops. I was hoping we could do a little more of that on this tour. But all of our food tasting was only in the Chelsea Market. So if they could incorporate some of this from the Greenwich tour would be good. Also we hardly saw anything of Chelsea. Having said that, Daryl our guide was fantastic & he provided a lot of information, anecdotes & stories for a lively & enjoyable time. |

An excellent insight into one of the historical and upcoming areas in New York. This gave us a real feel for a part of NY that we would not have had time to see. Also it allowed us to see and taste good range of quality foods in a short space of time. The benefit for us was that we can now go back in our own time and experience the highlights.
The host was informative and welcoming. |

Of the 3-hour tour, the first 2 hours are spent indoors within the Chelsea Market. With so much time indoors, this walk may be best suited to days when the weather is not so great. Also, the distance covered is not huge.
Overall we found the tour to be very informative and enjoyable. Our guide, Bob, was very approachable and provided informative and entertaining background info covering both the food we were sampling and the surrounding environs.
On the Meatpacking section of the tour we found out about some top-quality restaurants which were unknown to our hotel concierge. So if you're doing this walk during a short visit to New York, schedule it in early so that you give yourself a chance to go back and eat at some of the places visited.
My group weren't sure about whether we could/should have breakfast before the tour, and whether we should plan lunch afterwards. I'd say you could do both. Food samples are provided only within the Chelsea Market section, and are really only intended as tasters. It's not going to fill you up.

I've taken the Greenwich Village tour from the same company twice before and that one is perhaps a fraction more enjoyable, particularly the "eating" element of the tour.
However once outside Chelsea Market, I actually found the historical details of the Meatpacking district and the story of how it has recently developed to be fascinating and well told. Bob, our guide, seemed to have a good grasp on the facts and presented the information in an entertaining fashion.
A couple of the tastings were unremarkable (the milk place springs to mind) and I would have been happy to miss that out and spend longer looking around establishments in the Meatpacking district. |

I'm not great at writing stuff like this but I enjoyed the tour content and way it was presented by the guide so much that I feel I must respond. I found the Chelsea market content and food tastings well presented, informative and a good cross section of the food that was available at the market. The tour of the Meatpacking distict was a real eye opener for me, a whole new area - this is my sixth visit to NY. I have taken many tours but this was the best (Harlem walking tour by BO was also excellent). That's about it but go for it if you are considering this tour.

Well worth doing - even as a seasoned New York visitor (live in London) this provided a good counter balance to the shopping, bars and piano bar activities I mostly come to NY for. Have never been to this area of town (Chelsea Market / Meatpackers) - interesting urbanisation, some cool places and enough food to sink a battleship. Do it! |

I recently went on the Chelsea Market tour as part of a culinary arts tour of New York City. I was travelling with students from my Home Economics class in Vancouver Canada. We really enjoyed the tour and the tastings were awesome. Definitely enough food for lunch and then some! The guide was very knowledgable and showed us a lot. I would highly recommend this tour.
