AMAZING!!! YOU HAVE TO TAKE THIS TOUR

We had so much fun and learned so much on this tour!! Our tour guide, Cindy, was entertaining and very knowledgable. We loved every bit of food that we tasted and ended up spending the entire day and night in this really fun area. Considering we had very diverse ages and interests in our group (ages 70 to 38, foodies to folks who eat anything) we all found this to be one of our best experiences in New York. My cousin loved the tasting of Ronneybrook farm milk . . . she said it was so good it almost made her cry! We took Cindy's recommendation and ate at Macelleria, which was superb. I wish we would have gone back the next night and eaten at Spice Market!! Oh well, next time.

I enjoyed the tour and all of the food tastings. I thought the tour was managed very well. The tour guide clearly added to our enjoyment of the tour. I would recommend it to others I know travelling to NY.

Best Thing In New York

This was the best thing we did the entire time we were in New York. I only wish we had done it earlier in the week so that we would've known of the great food in this area. Our tour guide was great. He was very entertaining and knowledgable. We were expecting small tastings, but were full when we left. When we return to New York we will definately book a tour similar to this again. My 13 year old daughter even said this was her favorite part of the trip. Thanks for a great experience.

Good for bad-weather days

Of the 3-hour tour, the first 2 hours are spent indoors within the Chelsea Market. With so much time indoors, this walk may be best suited to days when the weather is not so great. Also, the distance covered is not huge. Overall we found the tour to be very informative and enjoyable. Our guide, Bob, was very approachable and provided informative and entertaining background info covering both the food we were sampling and the surrounding environs. On the Meatpacking section of the tour we found out about some top-quality restaurants which were unknown to our hotel concierge. So if you're doing this walk during a short visit to New York, schedule it in early so that you give yourself a chance to go back and eat at some of the places visited. My group weren't sure about whether we could/should have breakfast before the tour, and whether we should plan lunch afterwards. I'd say you could do both. Food samples are provided only within the Chelsea Market section, and are really only intended as tasters. It's not going to fill you up.

This was a great experience - just the right amount of time and filled with great food and interesting information. I had never visited the Chelsea/Meatpacking District before and I learned so much. Chelsea Market was a lot of fun. It was filled with interesting shops. The food was wonderful! Plenty to eat - do not eat lunch before you go! Being alone for this was easy. Everyone was very friendly. The tour guide, Darrell, was fantastic - very funny and open. He went at a great, easy pace and kept us informed the whole way. I am looking forward to taking another tour next time I'm in town and will recommend this experience to everyone.

A Tasty Tour of New York!!!

When I first arrived at Chelsea Market, I was not impressed. I was not looking forward to a tour of this huge, dark building. Then, Bob, our tour guide, came along and all of that changed. He brought the building to life - and to light - when he began talking about the history of the building and the history of each place we toured. My mom, sister, and I enjoyed the very generous samples that were given each stop on the way. We also enjoyed the tour of the Meatpacking District which led us to a wonderful dinner at Del Posto the following evening. I grew up around food - as did my mom and sister - so this was a wonderful way to experience some of the many flavors of New York! I would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting New York.

Very enjoyable tour

I've taken the Greenwich Village tour from the same company twice before and that one is perhaps a fraction more enjoyable, particularly the "eating" element of the tour. However once outside Chelsea Market, I actually found the historical details of the Meatpacking district and the story of how it has recently developed to be fascinating and well told. Bob, our guide, seemed to have a good grasp on the facts and presented the information in an entertaining fashion. A couple of the tastings were unremarkable (the milk place springs to mind) and I would have been happy to miss that out and spend longer looking around establishments in the Meatpacking district.

Great guide, unusual experience

Well worth doing - even as a seasoned New York visitor (live in London) this provided a good counter balance to the shopping, bars and piano bar activities I mostly come to NY for. Have never been to this area of town (Chelsea Market / Meatpackers) - interesting urbanisation, some cool places and enough food to sink a battleship. Do it!

Enjoyed the hisory and the amount of knowledge that the tour guy had. He was warm and friendly. The samples were great and the tour was very good. It was a little too long, but I loved the rest.
