Don't go to Soho - try this out instead!

When I booked this tour, my preference had been for either Greenwich Village or Soho, but as it was last minute, the only place left was on the Chelsea and Meat Packing District tour. I did think twice but I am so glad I did proceed with the booking. I turned up at Chelsea Market and was met by the guide - Cindy. She was fabulous! So enthusiastic, full of life and interesting stories. We spent most of the 3 hrs in Chelsea Market - what a facinating place! We stopped and so many places to sample and feast along the way and then finished the tour outside in the meat packing district, which they are now calling MeaPa ... this district is quite surreal, on one side of the street you have chic designers like Stella McCartney and then accross the street you have a meat packing plant with joints of meat hanging from huge hooks.
But it was a super 3 hrs and you will love Cindy - such a character!
A few tips:
1. Don't eat before you go on the tour
2. Be prepared to eat desert first!
3. Make sure you have some time to look around on your own at the end of the tour as no shopping is allowed! And there is so much to see in this area and some great little restaurants to sample ...
Don't go to Soho - try this out instead! If you are interested in food and local culture, you will love this tour. You also get a look at where Sex in the City's very own Samantha lives! 2 for the price of 1 - now that's value!
Hope you enjoy it as much as I did! |

We enjoyed the tour. The different food was good. Loved the history of the area and the market building and its history were very interesting. Lucy's Whey had great grilled cheese sandwhichs on fabulour bread from Amy's breads. Loved the variety of shops in the market. |

Our tour guide was excellent! His quick wit and turn-of-a-phrase made for lots of laughter. The food was yummy, but truth be told, it really is all about the people. |

Last October I took a different tour, which was GREAT. This tour totally lived up to our expectations. Dispite a little mix up at the start, the tour was excellent. I would recommend this tour to any "foodie" wholeheartedly. If it is ever in my future to have the good fortune to return to NYC, the Chelsea Market will be on my list of "do not miss"!
Thanks and Keep Up the Good Work,

I stumbled onto this tour while looking for a walking tour of Central Park. The food idea sounded good so I signed up at the last minute. We tasted our way through Chelsea Market and it was a blast. Our guide exemplified what I love about New Yorkers. He had the history, the enthusiasm, and plenty of charm. I had read about the High Line so that was great to see also and I would love to do more food tours next time I'm in NY. I whole heartedly recommend this outfit!! |

This tour was recommended to me and I had high expectations. It gave me insight into the area, its history and that is good. I felt there was a bit too much of a sales pitch for the Chelsea Market. Food was good, variety nice. I am glad we took the tour and would recommend it but it did not encourage me to go back for a visit.

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour, especially Bob, our guide. He was highly knowledgeable, personable and
obviously a loyal Big Apple advocate. The food tastings were good, especially the Lobster Place and Buon Italia.
The area was new to us and we learned a great deal about the history and changing nature of the restored
areas. The High Line was a highlight and worth including. All in all, our three hours was well spent and we were
glad that we included Foods of NY Tours in our long weekend visit. |

After so enjoying the tour of Greenwich with Todd, we set out to do the Chelsea Market tour as well. We enjoyed them both thoroughly: the food, the guides, and the company of other walkers. We think they are exceelent value and would recommend them to anyone visiting or living in New York.
Tell Todd that the reason there was another couple at Chumleys (they said they found it on the internet) might be that it is also featured in the Lonely Planet City Guide of New York (2004 edition), in their walking tour of Greenwich. |
