My husband, daughter, and I took the Chinatown tour and greatly enjoyed the three sit-down tastings and one street tasting. The Peking Duck was fabulous, as well as the dumplings and custard tart. Burt entertained us with stories of gang fighting, gambling, and hidden tunnels. I would definitely recommend this tour to travelers and locals alike. |

My sister and bro-in-law from WI and my husband and I (Boston) decided to 'try' this tour as we had all been to NYC quite a few times before but had never ventured into Chinatown ... it felt too 'scary' and confusing. I had always loved the colors, activity and purpose of this community so I decided to book this tour. My sister and her husband had previously taken 2 of your tours and they liked them so I figured ... let 'er rip! Our guide, Raheem was extra-special as he took us ALL over the area with information oozing out of his every pore ... traditions, hidden doorways, history, superlative food knowledge and respect for each of us and the merchants and residents of the area. The 4 of us in our small party never 'really' experienced true chinese cuisine previously and were blown away with Raheem's knowledge and expertise ... you could tell he LOVED this food and all the history behind it. Of course we asked numerous questions and (at least I did) took lots of photos so that i could repeat what I had learned to other NYC traveling friends. Since we came back to Marblehead, a little town on the north shore of Boston, I have been on the computer looking up "the Bloody Angle", "Apotheke", Mott St., Columbus Park (5 Points Park) and every other point of interest Raheem mentioned. My eyes are blurry! One of the things I appreciated so much is the friendly manner Raheem had with the proprietors of the restaurants and shops we visited, especially Richard in the "Beef Jerky" shop.
My husband and I had just finished the book "Downtown" by Peter Hamill which made this visit even more intriguing. His book laid out the lower Manhattan beginnings, traditions, cultures, streets and 'peoples' which tied in so well with Raheem's explanations. These histories melded seamlessly.
I will indeed recommend your Chinatown tour to all my friends who frequent NYC. I have posted photos on my facebook page hoping that someone will ask me about it ... will I have an earful for them ... ! :))) |

This tour was great! There was plenty to eat and everything was delicious. The tour guide was excellent and it was a good mix of food and culture. I thought it was good value for money as a four course lunch in New York is unlikely to cost you much less than the cost of the tour. |

My husband and I had been recommended to do the China Town food trip. Bert was our guide. He was welcoming, enthusiastic and knowledgeable about lots of things - the food, how its made, ingredients, suggested recipes, history, quirky facts. Lots. We really enjoyed it. |

Excellent tour. Raheem personable and knowledgable about area, culture and of course food. Good pace to the tour. Kept us moving but not too fast. Excellent that restaurants were expecting us so food was ready for serving and not too long a wait at any one restaurant. Would highly recommend. |

Bert was a well informed, fun, guide who clearly has a deep appreciation for food and shares his enthusiasm without inhibition. We appreciated the non-food info about locations along our tour as well as the 'foodie' insight. |
