Some of us were locals. Some of us were from out of state. ALL really enjoyed this tour. Bert has extensive knowledge of the area and we loved all of his neighborhood vignettes. The food sampling was perfect. Yes, there was lots of food and the variety was impressive - and definitely keep in mind to 'come hungry'. We also greatly appreciated the map hand out and suggestions for future places that might also be yummy and fun. I recommend it enthusiastically.

My husband, daughter, and I took the Chinatown tour and greatly enjoyed the three sit-down tastings and one street tasting. The Peking Duck was fabulous, as well as the dumplings and custard tart. Burt entertained us with stories of gang fighting, gambling, and hidden tunnels. I would definitely recommend this tour to travelers and locals alike.

I've never been fond of Chinese food but that's because I hadn't tasted REAL Chinese food. On this tour, I enjoyed each taste--or dish-let--at each stop we made. Our guide, Raheem, was friendly, extremely knowledgeable, and conducted the tour even in the bitter, windy, cold. We all went away quite happy!

My sister and bro-in-law from WI and my husband and I (Boston) decided to 'try' this tour as we had all been to NYC quite a few times before but had never ventured into Chinatown ... it felt too 'scary' and confusing. I had always loved the colors, activity and purpose of this community so I decided to book this tour. My sister and her husband had previously taken 2 of your tours and they liked them so I figured ... let 'er rip! Our guide, Raheem was extra-special as he took us ALL over the area with information oozing out of his every pore ... traditions, hidden doorways, history, superlative food knowledge and respect for each of us and the merchants and residents of the area. The 4 of us in our small party never 'really' experienced true chinese cuisine previously and were blown away with Raheem's knowledge and expertise ... you could tell he LOVED this food and all the history behind it. Of course we asked numerous questions and (at least I did) took lots of photos so that i could repeat what I had learned to other NYC traveling friends. Since we came back to Marblehead, a little town on the north shore of Boston, I have been on the computer looking up "the Bloody Angle", "Apotheke", Mott St., Columbus Park (5 Points Park) and every other point of interest Raheem mentioned. My eyes are blurry! One of the things I appreciated so much is the friendly manner Raheem had with the proprietors of the restaurants and shops we visited, especially Richard in the "Beef Jerky" shop. My husband and I had just finished the book "Downtown" by Peter Hamill which made this visit even more intriguing. His book laid out the lower Manhattan beginnings, traditions, cultures, streets and 'peoples' which tied in so well with Raheem's explanations. These histories melded seamlessly. I will indeed recommend your Chinatown tour to all my friends who frequent NYC. I have posted photos on my facebook page hoping that someone will ask me about it ... will I have an earful for them ... ! :)))

Excellent food tour

I truly enjoyed the Chinatown Food Tour. The tour was a Christmas gift from our daughter and her fiance. Our son and his wife and their son also joined us. The foods chosen were delicious, very cultural and presented beautifully. Our tour guide, Bert, was exceptional, in that he provided us with interesting commentary, was enthusiastic and very knowledgeable about Chinatown and its people. He truly enjoys his profession and makes sure he includes everyone in the tour with individual attention. We had about 17 people joining us, just the right amount for seating at the various locations. I especially enjoyed the Peking Duck, and also appreciated his explanation of its preparation. I am sure my family and I will avail ourselves of the other tours you have to offer. I do believe that Bert made the tour most enjoyable for all of us.

A great host shares the sights and flavors of a fascinating neighborhood. Take the tour, try new flavors, find the places the locals recommend, hear about the back stories of the area. Not much walking, lots of sit down time so it works no matter what the weather. Where else could you taste pork belly, and learn about the underbelly of the neighborhood? Watch a chef carve Pekin duck for you, while learning that a chef could be killed on the spot, if the Emperor was dissatisfied with his food? If you take this tour, be sure to ask who would pay $1700.00 per pound for ginseng, and what would such a person do with it?

Bert is the Best!

Bert was also our guide on the Greenwich Village Food Tour months ago also. He is very informative about the neighborhoods and food that we are sampling, he made us feel as we were in the know. We had to rush out of the Chinatown tour so I was unable to give him my feedback on the food selection. Bert, if you are reading this; the final dessert stop of a custard tart is not a good representation of Chinatown and done so much better in most of Europe. A suggestion would be to hunt down a good sesame ball - everyone likes those. I wasn't a fan of the eggplant & rice stop....very average food. The dim sum and duck were perfect. Thanks for an enjoyable afternoon. Cheers, Gala Yayla
