Absolutely wonderful way to spend three hours

If you enjoy food and want to learn about the city, this is an absolutely fabulous way to spend three hours in NYC. I have lived here forever but am always looking for new things to do with out-of-town guests. They told me this was the best ever, and I agree. I have already told many of my local friends about this tour and I plan to take another one. Thanks so much for a wonderful experience. PS I now have about eight locations in the Village that I will visit again and share with friends.

Great tour, lots of food and history

This was a great tour to learn about the area both from a historical perspective and for future restaurant reservations! We tasted a substantial amount of food, lunch is definitely not necessary beforehand. I loved learning more about the neighborhood, but I think the best part is that you leave with a list of restaurants that you can try at a later time.

too critical of NYU

We've loved the food tours of Greenwich Village and Chelsea Meatpacking District in the past and rated those 5 stars. But this tour with Diana was too critical of NYU's expansions. It also spent too much time in Washington Square Park; by the stop at the fountain we were hungry and very thirsty! The selections of food, though, were excellent, and we learned much about the East Village which was great. We will go back to several of the restaurants!

Good tour - but not my favorite!

Several years ago I took your Greenwich Village tour with friends and absolutely loved it. Last year my husband and I did the Chelsea Market tour and we also loved it. My husband and I liked and enjoyed this tour; but we didn't love it. The guide who led the tour did not offer a lot of historical information about an area of the city that has been settled by various groups for hundreds of years. There was a lot of name dropping like "Bob Dylan lived here"; Bob Dylan played a set here"; Eugene O'Neill read his play here"; "Bob Dylan wrote a song here". And yes, 75% of the comments were about Bob Dylan. I also found that the food tastings themselves lacked organization. We first had a sandwich on focaccia bread, then a pasta bolognese, followed by cheese cake. After this we had empanadas, then smoked mozzarella cheese and sun dried tomatoes, followed by chocolate and pear tarts. Considering that the whole tour covered a very small area, I think that something could have been done to push all dessert tastings to the end. Other than that, the portions were more than generous and no one walked away hungry from the tour. The mix of people on the tour was nice. The weather was perfect. And we had a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend the Foods of NY tours to friends and relatives.

Visiting the Village... take the tour first thing

The Greenwich Village food tour was one of the highlights of our trip to New York. This is a great way to get to know the Village before you head out on your own. On this tour you'll sample excellent food from among the authentic, local places in Greenwich Village and Soho, and learn something about the diverse and colorful history of the Village and NYC. The tour guide, and the restaurateurs and proprietors of the places we visited, are engaging and friendly; and the food items we sampled were always excellent, interesting and delicious. Every stop on this tour was a "highlight"; but let me call out a couple: Joe's Dairy, with delicious, creamy smoked mozzarella and intense, savory sun-dried tomatoes. Once Upon a Tart, right across the street, with tasty and expressively French-inspired fruit desserts on a delicate tart crust. Montes Italian restaurant, where we sampled pasta with a bolognese sauce that will reset your expectations forever of what southern-Italian-style red meat sauce can be. Thanks, I hope to take this tour again. On the next trip to NY we plan to go back to many of these places, and really explore the menu for lunch and dinner.

Want to go on the other tours now!

Dang we had fun! Susan our guide was cool and knowledgable. The food selections were diverse and all were very good. The pace of the tour was nice, we never got hot, thirsty, or hungry :-) Great way to learn about New York history too. Didn't know the alcoholic drinks were going to be extra, but oh well, we drank them. We had a great "couples event" and would totally reccomend it to our friends (we were tweeting our experiences and our friends were loving the updates and photos) and about doing the other tours. When we come back to New York, we will for sure do another one.

This tour is the best thing we did in NY!
Fri, Jun 11, 10   12:00 PM paulalyons Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This tour is the best thing we did in NY: food, culture, history, resources for future visits. The food was delicious, varied and plentiful; and we now have several quality recommendations on where to eat in the future. We had dinner at one of the restaurants featured on the tour and we were all spoiled. The history and cultural information was interesting, fun and useful. We've already encouraged our friends to do this tour. And, we will certinaly do other tours from Foods of New York Tours.

We were afraid the really hot weather would spoil our enjoyment, but the 3 hours flew by, and we had enought breaks in cool spots to be able to enjoy the walk. Great guide, great information, great food-Can't wait to try another!

Tour leader was excellent, informative and friendly. Food was very good but REDUNDANT. IT WAS ALL STARCHES AND CARBS, NO VEGETABLES.
