Great insight to great food!

I highly recommend this tour. Not only did I learn about great food finds in SOHO and Greenwich, but our guides told us about the history of the area, explained the architecture, and told us where to find great comedy, music, and plays. My only regret is I wish I would have taken the tour on my first day of my trip so I could have taken more advantage of their insights of where to go and what to do while in NYC. Thank you so much for the excellent tour. I had very high expectations and you exceeded them. Gary Sipos San Francisco, CA

Off the Beaten Path

My mom and I took this tour as a last minute idea. We were amazed at the variety of fun foods we tasted from quaint places off the beaten path. These are eateries that we have overlooked during previous trips through the Village because they are small and hidden. Everything we tasted was to die for and had it not been for the tour, we never would have given these places a second look. What a treat! We also enjoyed our tour guides and met other nice people in our group. I highly recommend taking this tour on a "nice weather" day and wearing comfortable shoes.

My 80-year old mother and I thoroughly enjoyed the tour. I had been concerned about whether my mom could do 3 hours of walking and standing, but she was so enthralled with what we saw, heard, tasted and learned that it was not a problem. Also the guides were very accommodating to her -- offering places to sit, and most importantly, speaking very loudly and clearly. The preparation that went into the tour was fantastic -- great background info about the 'hood, about the proprietors, about the ingredients, etc. Food samples were great, and at the end you know what to come back to when you have time, whether you want to listen to music, have a great meal, grab a snack or shop for gifts to take back home. I will definitely do the other tours when I get back to NY. I can't say enough positive about this!

wonderful way to get to know the village!

This tour is not just for people who love their food from all over the world, though it does make it easier to find restaurants you might want to come back to later. The snacks are not too big and you get enough time to recover walking it off in between. Anyone with an open mind and interest in the area will love what they hear from the well-prepared guide(s). It was obvious that these two -- we took the tour in its try-out phase -- knew much more than they were telling us; and they told us a whole lot! If you have any specific questions, you can feel free to ask them; these people know their stuff! Concluding, this is a tremendously interesting tour and a great way to find out lots of things about the village; its little traditional shops, bars and restaurants and its interesting histrory.

The Inner Wonders of the City

I recently went on one of the trial tours and really enjoyed finding out more about what the Greenwich Village and SOHO had to offer. I have walked passed many of the places that were mentioned on the tour many times before and never knew the exciting history behind the sites. I loved the tastings- freshly made mozzarella cheese, potato pizza, homemade yogurt, etc.... I will definitely go back to the small old-fashioned family run stores only known to the locals. I recommend going on this tour to anyone who is into food, history or just loves to walk because it has a lot to offer. A great way to spend some time with friends or family.

This is the 3rd tour we've taken (Greewich and Chelsea Market Tours were great!) And even though the weather was hot, we toured in the shade for the most part. The next day we returned for a fondue dinner and then on to a listen to blues and had a great time! We plan to return to the area on our next visit to NYC!

It was a lot of fun and very informative! I especially liked going into the specialty shops and the possibility of buying things for home (we live here in the city)!! I really enjoyed the insider information (where Bob Dylan used to live, etc.) Great tour!!

Needs a little work, but has potential

I have been on other Foods of NY tours and this one needs a little work. The guide seemed nervous, and she tried to cover too much in three hours while being a bit boring. It would be great if they focused on fewer restaurants, but let the tour go into the places and get a sense of them. A couple more tasting would also be good because many of the people were still hungry at the end. This has some overlap with the Greenwich Village tour, which was frusturating because many participants had already been on the other tour. I hope they'll get all these things figured out for a great tour. This is not a tour for people that can't stand outside for three hours straight. There was no sitting at all.

What a wonderful day!

I had a wonderful, educational, interesting, fascinating time on the tour. The two guides were knowledgeable, friendly, and considerate. (I appreciated their trying to keep us in the shade-and for asking us to consider the feelings of the actor we saw in the tea shop!) The food was terrific. I loved trying things I never would have considered before. Just please be careful of the foil that was found in some of the sandwiches, mostly at the Indian Bread Shop. Something that would be helpful would be a map for us to look at in advance, so we have an idea of where we are going. I got very mixed up with my sense of direction at first. Fortunately, I knew a little bit of the area, so I was able to reorient myself, but a map in advance with the route marked would be so helpful. Also, one bottle of water is not enough for a hot day. (Thank you for the Jamaican soda. That was refreshing.) If it is not possible to provide us with more water along the way, then at least recommend that we come with our own, or stop somewhere where we can purchase some. Thank you for getting my son that banana and honey pressed toast sandwich when you found out he could not have cheese. That was a very personal, considerate touch. I am looking forward to booking more tours with you. I want to take my husband next time. It was like going on a mini vacation that day. Oh, that potato pizza was the BEST!!!!

The tour was a great way to introduce visitors to an area of NYC not listed in the usual tour guides. After doing this tour, we returned to the Central Village region twice during our stay in NYC. For anyone considering this tour, do it early during your stay in NYC because you'll want to return before you leave. We had a fantastic day. Thank you Bari..... and the squirrels!
