Excellent Tour - For Any Weather

A snowy winter day in mid December was the perfect setting for a picturesque visit to Central Village and the cultural food tour. Our guide for the day was jovial (Susan) and kept the tour lively and informative throughout the blizzard, having already been on the Greenwich Village Food Tour (Which again would highly recommend) we found this tour as interesting with another great selection of shops to visit and also hear about the history of the Central village & Soho along the way. Top Tastes ... of which all delicious. The tour managed to find a great mix of foods from all cultures covering Italian, Cuban, French to name a few..Starters of a warm bowl of hearty Italian soup exceptional Enpinadas and a strong cuban to accompany, the freshest Mozarella cheese & pepper salami.. with a finalie of Chocolate and Walnut tart to die for! .. This just names a few of the places to savour.. and many other places to visit and smell the aromas and atmosphere of the village. Along the way many a tale was told and places to visit including the world famous Cafe Wah, stepping back in time to the 1960's... the strip of bars and comedy stores to visit later in the evening when the place comes alive..Should you have a half day spare in the city this is a MUST DO! Really worth the money. (P.S.. No need for lunch!).

This was one of the highlights of my trip!

Our tour guide, Raheem, was awesome! He knew SO much about the area and had the greatest personality. I got the best pictures, met the nicest people, and ate the most amazing food. I even took notes so I could remember all the stories about the locations and will be ordering food over the net from some of the stops! If (when) I return to NYC, I will definitely go revisit many of the places we went. In addition, I will definitely sign up for your other tours!

Loved the experience

We enjoyed a small tour of 6 people on a freezing Dec day. The guide was friendly & informative and we visited two of the sites on our own over the following days. We had dinner at the Ethiopian restaurant & a falafel for lunch from MacDougall St. We had previously walked by these venues without realising how good they were. We would highly recommend the tour. Was a nice tour, great variety, good bits of history from the guide. Loved the meeting place (great bartender). Would recommend shortening the tour by 30 mins to an hour. The only criticism I have was the one stop included a long visit to one restaurant but no food was available to try; it was a beautiful establishment and the description of the food was fabulous, then quite a let down when we could not sample.

It was a well organized trip. Raheed was informative on the area as well as the restaurants. We would request his group again. The food was all very ethic and delicious. A well planned trip....only we wished we could have tasted those cupcakes!!1

Our guide, Raheem (sp?) was articulate, knowledgeable and passionate about the foods, business owners, and stories behind the sites we visited. Very interesting, and generous sampling of a number of foods. Ample opportunites to sit, and visit rest rooms; very comfortable 3 hours. Would recommend this to anyone!

Good food in a variety of places, although it would have been nice to actually eat something in more of the places we visited. Our tour guide was nice and knowledgeable, but at some points I wanted the tour to be geared more towards locals than tourists.

Fun Times!

I have now participated in two different NY food tours. Both were a lot of fun!! I must say the food on the Central Village tour was excellent. Definitely made me want to go back to almost all the restaurants we stopped at. My only comment was about one restaurant that we didn't receive a tasting. It was a new one on the tour and they promoted the place wonderfully... I definitely want to eat there, but a tasting would have made it a bit better... would have made my decision to return just a bit more definite. Thanks for a wonderful day!

Felt like we got an early holiday gift!

Raheem did a WONDERFUL job making our group feel what it was like to have lived decades past in this gem of an area. He really knew his stuff! Great food samplings, beautiful old buildings and businesses, some of which are more than 100 years old, historical facts about the area all combined for a first rate adventure. After our legs were walked off, our group of friends and another couple from the group, visiting from England, bellied up to the bar at the Caffe del Marre where Lenworth the bartender entertained us with special drink concoctions and lively banter. We all felt totally at home in this neighborhood! Our group lives on Long Island and are only now getting to spread our wings and explore this wonderful city! Foodsofny is the way to go! We haven't been disappointed in any tour yet! We already have plans to come back and eat at several of the restaurants and shop for some of the great food products we tasted!

Can't recommend this tour

The guide was excellent, both his knowledge and his enthusiasm. The tour walked around SoHo/Village to many spots where we learned the history of the neighborhood. This was a walking tour with some food tastings added. I expected it to be a food tour with walking involved. We stopped to hear the guide talk about restaurants, but didn't/couldn't go in. So what's the point of bringing everyone there? It seems promoting restaurants in SoHo/Village was the tour's objective. If the tour had brought the group to tasting after tasting after tasting that would have been great. It was what I expected. The guide could have discussed some (less) of the neighborhood history inbetween restaurants/cafe stops. Instead, the tour was only accented by tastings. It was primarily a walking tour. If I wanted to join a "walking" tour specifically, I would have. I expected far more tastings than what we had. I especially didn't appreciate being walked into restaurants where the group didn't have a taste of anything. The guide introduced and promoted many restaurants, but we didn't taste anything from the menu. My recommendation is not to bring a Food Tour group into restaurants if the group isn't going to taste anything. The guide spent half the time recommending that we return to eat at these restaurants while in New York. Unfortunately, this was a walking tour promoting neighborhood restaurants with tastes of food here and there. It wasn't what I expected.
