We had previously gone on the Foods of NY Chelsea Market tour and enjoyed it so much we signed up for the new Village/Soho tour. In comparison the tour guide for the Chelsea tour (Cindy) had a deep knowledge of the history of that area, including a number of quirky facts. We also felt that our group was welcomed by the eateries and stores in the Chelsea area. Our guide for the Village/Soho tour did not seem as knowledgable about the area, nor as comfortable providing the tour. Also, although we toured many restuarants and learned about the foods and cultures that inhabited the area, there was not much tasting. Overall, the Village/Soho tour needs to be better developed with more partcipation from the eateries in the area. This is not to say we didn't have a nice time. We even returned to Raffettos and the Indian Bread Company to make purchases for home.

A Worthy Addition to the Foods of New York Roster

Had a fine time on the tour and saw parts of Greenwich Village and SoHo I didn't know existed, even though I visit NYC a couple of times each year. Todd and Barry are good tour guides and included a lot of historical info about the area that went far beyond food facts. I was especially pleased that there was no overlap between this tour of the Central Village and FoNY's separate tour of the West Village.

Great 'picture' of life during the settling of NYC

This was our second tour of The Village and Soho, last year it was one section and this year it was the other parts of that area. We sampled foods from Israel, Jamaica, India, the Middle East and Italy. Our guide, Tod, was not only a very nice person, was most knowledgable of the history of the area, the architecture, the foods, the people, the different kinds of music to be heard at the clubs and restaurants, and the 'off Broadway' theatres. Most of the establishments were still much the same as they have always been. Some of the stores and eating places are 'Mom and Pop' (family owned and operated) places and have been in the families for generations. The people who live in the area want to keep it as it is - a village of various cultures. We agree with them - it is a most interesting area. It would be a tragedy to have it invaded by a Starbucks or a McDonalds.

This is the second time we did a tour with Foods of New York. The first one was just Greenwich Village. This one was just as enjoyable and informative as the first one. An excellent way to spend the day meandering through Greenwich Village and Soho. The description is correct when it say don't eat lunch. You definitely will get your fill while on this tour. Todd was our guide and he was fantastic. Knowledgeable, entertaining and informative. You could not have asked for a better guide than Todd. If you are thinking about taking this tour don't second guess yourself, just do it. You won't be disappointed

Loved the fact that the restaurants we visited were not expensive, cloth linen/ break the bank type dining. This is the New York I've longed to see! GOt a good feel for the neighborhood not just the restaurants. Saw many places I want to come back to. Tour guide was friendly and knowledgable. WOuld certainly take one or your tours again. We had a fantastic time on this tour. The food was delicious and interesting. The guide was extremely knowlegeable about the area. I found the historical part of the tour as interesting as the food part (and I loved the food part!) It was a fun way to spend an afternoon and a great way to learn about some eateries to revisit in the future.

All three of us had taken (and thoroughly enjoyed) the first Greenwich food tour a few months ago and were equaly enthusiastic about this one. Great guide (Barry, not Mary!), interesting information, excellent food. A great value and perfect way to learn about NYC. The next morning we returned to Cafe del Mar for a wonderful brunch. Good food at a very reasonable price.

This was such a great idea. We were able to walk the sides streets of New York and enjoy a wide varitey of foods. One tip I have is that you should come prepared for the weather. Most of the tour takes place outside, and on they day we went, it was pouring rain. Even with an umbrella and hood, we were drenched by the end of the tour. So, if you know the weather is going to be bad...bring your best rain gear.
