Central Village/SoHo Food & Culture Tour

activity photo

Sample tasty treats from ethnic, old-school eateries in two distinct areas - one colorful and exciting, the other surprisingly quaint.

Having found this tour as top rated on tripadvisor or yelp (cant remember actually) we knew this is the right choice for us: eating and getting to know something about the neighbourhood. Being to NY for the first time this was really good information although probably even New Yorkers would have learnt something really new as the infos were less tour-guide-standard-off-the-book but more as info given by someone who just seems to know and happy to share the info. Diana did a great job. The food experience was good, everything tasted great, the variety of foods was astonishing and the quality of each was very good. Also the amount of food was just right, we did not leave hungry and did not feel overloaded. The size of the group was still possible to be handled, the groups should not be bigger than they are. The walk was just around some blocks so no inner city hiking required. We are very glad to have made this tour and can imagine to try also one of the others!

We visit the city regularly with family and friends, but, we have never made it into Greenwich. This tour gave us history, culture, community and food. Raheem was a knowledgeable and a great story-teller. He made a connection with each person in the tour group. We did go back for dinner the next night to one of the places we tasted. This was 1 tour we all unanimously agreed was the best time we had in NYC.

This was our second time on a food tour with this group and it was once again a highlight of our trip -- which says a lot in a city with so many highlights. Our guide, Rahim, was aweseome! Not only did he know tons about food, the neighbourhood and its history, he was a great speaker and a fun guide. Plus, the food was great -- I'll never, ever forget that Monte's cheesecake. I heartily recommend this experience!

We all had a great time on this tour. Our tour guide Raheem (sorry if it is spelled wrong) was very knowledgeable of the area, made great recommendations and was very relaxed. He took his time and never rushed us from one venue to the next. All of the tastings we indulged on were fantastic. Each one was unique and not your run of the mill fair. They all left a lasting impression, but I think the two that stand out the most for us were the bolognese and the ricotta cheese cake. We certainly did not walk away hungry. The cultural side of the tour beyond the food was quite interesting. We found it very easy to put ourselves in the past with all of the great writers and musicians of the different times and wonder what it was like. Greenwich village and Soho is such a great area of the city. We can't wait to go back. We have already recommended this tour to our friends. Hopefully they will take our advice. The next time I'm in the city I hope to do the Chelsea and Meatpacking District tour. Hopefully it will be sooner rather that later.

Four of us had five days in New York, and we hadn't been for quite a few years. Collectively we love cities, love to know about the areas we are visiting, enjoy personal tours and love to try different foods. This tour was the perfect mix of everything - - the food fun and very appealing, the guide personable, helpful and interesting. We would do this again!

We were first timers to New York and found it both informative culturally / historically and a great way to try before you buy when it comes to the cafes and restaurants in the village. Next time we come, we are going to stay in this area rather than in Times Square as it is packed with the restaurants and cafes we love. Susan, our guide, was excellent. She is a lifetime New Yorker and had a wealth of information about the history and culture of the area and the food that relates to it. We would definitely recommend this as a must do experience for food lovers.

We did the Greenwich Village - Soho tour and were totally thrilled with it. When I booked it I was afraid it might be a bit cheezy and inauthentic, but thought we'd give it a shot anyway. I knew from the first stop that we were in for a good day. The food we ate at the Indian restaurant was absolutely delicious, and the other diners in the restaurant were from Mumbai, so it was clearly an authentic place! All of the other sites were terrific too - almost all locally owned for generations by the same family. It really felt like we were getting an insider's glimpse into the neighborhood food scene. Our guide was great - a young guy that knew his history and his food. And the other people in our group were sophisticated and polite, so it didn't feel like you were being dragged around with some huge obnoxious tour group. I would reccomend the tour to anyone!
