activity photo

Sample tasty treats from ethnic, old-school eateries in two distinct areas - one colorful and exciting, the other surprisingly quaint.

My wife and I toured with Barri on a hot Friday afternoon. Barri was enthusiastic, friendly, and very knowledgeable of the history and current make up of Greenwich Village. The food samples were delicious, varied, and quite substantial. Most in our group were stuffed by the end of the tour. Barri kept us supplied with water during the heat of the day as we learned about the architecture and history of the area in addition to the seven food and drink stops. The tour was the perfect lenghth. Will definitely take this tour again!

Our tour guide, Susan, was punctual, efficient and personally knowledgeable about the area of our tour. She gave us a sense of the area that we would never get on our own. Susan encouraged questions and spent time with each group of guests to get to know them during the course of the tour. The samplings of food were substantial. The tour far surpassed our expectations in the quantity of food we received and the quality was excellent. We would highly recommend this tour to our friends and family and look forward to the other tour offerings.

Finally got to see NYC at my pace!
Thu, Jul 10  12:00 PM Rhuebl Male 50-59 International Tourist(s) Family With Children
New York City is always going at a fast pace. Taxis zip you from one place to another, subways tear underground without seeing a thing, views from crowded buses are limited, at best. Even the double decker tour buses race around on a schedule, not giving you a chance to just stop and admire the architecture and the buildings. And when you get off the merry-go-round to walk around a neighbourhood, you don't know the history of the place or the story of the people. For one small neighbourhood, for one short afternoon, Food Of New York Tours changed that. Our well informed and experienced guide took us around a small part of Greenwich Village, explaining the history of the place, showing us the architecture, reliving the history of the people that lived there. It was how I wanted to see New York: on foot, learning how and when things were built, how the people live here. Oh. And there was food too! Lots of it, all from Mom-and-Pop restaurants. Enough food to last all day. And it was good food! And we visited stores that sold coffee right out canvas bags (the smell was amazing) and tea shops. But at the end of it all, the food is not the point. It's a reason to walk around New York, to learn about the neighbourhood and enjoy its history. Rainer and Alyssa
