Went to NYC with a friend. First time for me but my friend was there many times previoulsy. She never took the tour in the past so it was a first for both of us. Our guide was Bert. He was wonderful. Very knowledgeable, personable, and seemed to enjoy what he was doing. The food was great! We were stuffed by the time we completed the tour. I would recommend this to everyone. We were not rushed as some tours can be. The employees at the establishments we visited were all very pleasant. Well worth the money.

Another side of New York (April 2011)

Having visited some years ago we returned with teenagers this time wanting to see another side of New York rather than just the iconic sites like the Statue of Liberty etc. I cannot speak highly enough of the whole experience of the Greenwich Food Tour. It was the best thing we did in NY for the 4 days we spent there. The guide, Marie, was entertaining, extremely friendly and knowledgeable and had a real passion for the area that shone through the whole time. Both my 16 yr son and 13yr daughter loved it too so its not just for older people. The food shops and restaurants we visited were all of an excellent standard and provided such good tasters that we went back at the end for another slice of pizza and more rice balls. I am already recommending it to friends and family in the UK and would certainly do another tour when we are next in the city. Please don't change and become too big or commercial, its the friendliness and informal style that makes this so much fun. We also enjoyed mixing with Americans from other parts of the States who as always were great company and a brilliant advertisement for their home country!

A very fun family outing

It's hard to get our kids to spend time with us on weekends, and even more difficult to get them to take a walking - historical - tour. This was an exception. The kids were happy to join us and had fun walking around the Village and trying new foods (even my picky eater tried some cauliflower). The little bits of history that were "snuck in" among the delicious food were just perfect. The portions were good sized and we left full. The places we went were very nice. Only complaint was there wasn't much attention to the overall menu - no protein at all and two stops in a row were both rice - rice balls followed by risotto.

Spent a wonderful morning on the Greenwich Village Walking Tour. The tour was led by Marie. She was great and you could tell she loved her job. She told us many stories that gave the history of the food, the characters that have lived in the area as well as the buildings. The selection of places to sample food gave us flavor of the village and everything was delicious! We returned to Home Restaurant a few nights later for dinner. Thanks to all of the establishments that participated in the tour.

Lots of Great Food and a Very Fun Tour Guide

This tour is surprisingly, almost shockingly, full of good food. You can't finish the tour hungry. Our guide was very charismatic and entertaining. There was hardly a dull moment. She didn't go deeply into the cultural history of the Village or the cultural context of the foods she served, but that was fine. It was enough to share with us some great stories and great food. Thank you!

We loved Bert and Greenwich Village

Bert (as in Bert and Ernie) was an enthusiastic guide with a great sense of humor. Anyone taking this tour will have at least 15 great restaurants / eateries / take-outs to try in Greenwich Village. In addition to learning about some history of the area, we got a great feel for the neighborhood as it is today. This tour was very generous with the food - I didn't count but I felt as if we ate at about a dozen places. I highly recommend this tour and look forward to trying other tours with this company when I return to NYC.

More Talkin' Than Tastin'

There was very little regarding food preparation and certainly no cooking tips or discussion by the proprietors of any restaurant. We did have interaction with the sales clerks at a cheese shop and an olive oil shop. This "tour" was mostly standing on the sidewalk in front of restaurants (in a cold, blowing rain) listening to the history of the establishment or of the neighborhood. The tastings were modest and strung over three hours--no way I would consider this lunch. Most of the establishments allowed us inside due to the inclement weather, but only after our guide left us on the sidewalk and asked permission. It appears that there was very little prearranged with any of the restaurants. The cheese shop and olive oil shop knew we were coming, were welcoming, and obviously hoping for a sale. One or two of the restaurants had prepared a small sit-down tasting which was clearly prearranged. For most, this was not the case. Our guide was knowledgable and entertaining (an unemployed actress doing the tour guide gig). My advice--go to Bleeker Street in the village and take your own tour. If you look like you might buy something, the folks in these shops are delighted to talk to you, sans the big group and the tour guide. Find your own nice restaurant and sit down and have an ACTUAL LUNCH, maybe even a glass of wine (and pay for it with the money you would have used for the tour and tip). And if the weather is bad, you won't be forced to stand on the sidewalk in front of the establishment--you can actually GO IN.
