More than we expected

My wife and I visiting from Edmonton were expecting a local tour of eating establishments, what we got was an interesting history of Greenwich Village. One you could only get by walking through the neighborhood. Our guide Barry was very knowledgeable about the food and the area. It was one of the highlights of our trip, we even returned to one of the stops with guests for dinner. We would highly recommend it and would try some of the other tours on our next visit.

Our lovely guide was Heather and the weather was perfect. I loved getting both the culinary tour, and the short historical/architectural tour as well. The tastings were definitely plentiful. Something that's really important to me, especially in a big city, is knowing the places the locals go and this fit the bill perfectly. I'll definitely be back to visit some of the shops and restaurants I was introduced to on the tour, not to mention just doing another tour.

Marie was a pretty good tour guide ...

Our group was a bit unwieldy at 16, but Marie did a pretty good job of keeping us together -- and in earshot of her commentary. A slice of pizza; olive olive oil and honey on 1/2 slices of baguette; a rice ball; a bowl of risotto, a large cookie; three bites of different cheeses and a slice or sopressata and finally a cannoli. Mosly on foot, seated twice -- once with access to a bathroom. Interesting tour of the historic district. Pretty interesting but not really a gourmet experience. Perhaps you'll go back and shop for the things you really wanted -- as we did -- taking home a wonderful collection of goodies for our supper. Don't forget to use your coupons in the brochure provided.

Too Much Fun

I am a foodie and just loved the tour. Not only did we have several tastings from pizza, to olive oil (purchased a couple of hundred dollars of olive oil and balsamic vinegar to take home in my suitcase, which thankfully arrived without incident) to cheese and meat, to risotto, we also received a wonderful history of the Greenwich area, the types of architecture as the area went through various periods in the development of Manhattan. Then came the restaurants and pubs and went back to several of them for dinner as we were staying in the West Village about 2 blocks from the tour. Wonderful and highly recommended.

Excellent tour/food tasting

Heather, our guide, was friendly, informed, and energetic. The tour was timed well and a good balance between food and "culture" of the Village. I think there could have been a bit more interaction on different participants opinion of the tastings. I would have been interested in hearing what others on the tour thought of the food, particularly Joe's pizza. Personally i was a bit disappointed as it was not near the standards of Lombardi's or Grimaldi's.

A fun way to tour neighborhoods

Joining the food tour is a fun way to see different neighborhoods. You can sample different restaurants, specialities, see different shops, and learn about the area. Our guide, 10/17, 11am, was high energy, humorous, and gracious. The Chelsea Market tour offers a bit more variety in terms of the type of food.... chocolate milk, chowder, gelato, cheese/bread, Italian specialties, cookies, pasta, and visit 2 Iron Chef's restaurants. ( We took this tour in 2009) For the Greenwich Village tour, we sampled bread/olive oil, pizza, Italian cheses, risotto, a corn/cranberry dish, cannoli, rice ball and cookie. When the weather cooperates, the tours are tremendous.
