We took the Greenwich Village tour twice and thought it was exceptional; so decided to take the Chelsea Market/Meatpacking District tour and we were just as pleased. The tours are fun, educational and most of all TASTY!! Had a great time. Sam was our tour guide and he made everyone feel at ease immediately and provided so much information and was just was the best!

Something for Everyone

We had a great time, worth every penny. Not only was the food outstanding but the history of the area was an unexpected addition. The tour guide was knowledgeable about her food and the district and you could tell she enjoyed her job. I would recommend this tour to any of my friends and family of any age and gender.

great history, food order needs to change

Hi- I've been on your Greenwich tour as well and I prefer that one better than this one: the food was more spaced out with the walking, the order of the food was better. On this tour, we started with a wonderful cookie that should have been the last as dessert. The visit at Buono Italy should have been first with the bread and the meats. Our tour started at 11:30 so that would have made sense to have the first tasting at that time with the meats, cheese and bread. Unfortunately with the way all the eateries are contained in the market, it's understandably hard to space out the walking with the eating. I really enjoyed the history of the area. Most of the walking was done after we left the market, so ... I'd recommend the Greenwich one to friends before I would this tour. I'm going to try the Chinatown one next, so I hope you'll get that up and running in time for the fall weather.

Lots of fun

This tour was very difficult to join – it is very popular and it was truly worth the wait. I learned loads about the neighborhood, especially little tib-bips of information that I would not have known if not for coming on the tour. Found some great restaurants that we will be sure to come back and try. The Olive Oil store was an eye-opening experience and the Cheese store, I will be signing up for their Cheese 101 class. Kurt was a great guide. He was funny, energetic and informative but, what impressed me most was that he had a group of 15, and remembered all our names. Quick sign up – you will not be disappointed.

OUTSTANDING!

This year my sisters in law and I met a friend of mine that lives in Astoria and we all took the Greenwich Village tour. Last year we had done the Chelsea tour and loved it. We never realized that we could have even a better time this year! The tour was great, the tour guide, Dirk, even better. He was so informative, but most of all, he was entertaining and just so darn cute. He had a great sense of humor and made every moment memorable. We have made our trip to NYC an annual event, so next year we plan to take the Soho tour.

Fun, delicious and informative tour!

The tour of Chelsea market was spectacular. Our guide was very personable and had a wealth of knowledge about the history of the area. It was nice to be in a smaller group for a more intimate experience. We sampled foods from almost every place in the market and made it well worth the money. I left there completely stuffed!

Everything is not always bigger in Texas!!

Coming from Houston,Texas; where we have a very diverse culture of cusines and people from all over the world, I was very impressed with the tour of Chelsea Market. There are few (to none) places in Texas where you can get the finest, freshest and very delicious items located at the all in one location such as Chelsea Market; many being local. I was a bit skeptical at first about spending 3 hours on a tour, but let me tell you it was well worth the experience. For those of you with a refined palate, or as my husband jokingly calls "food connoisseurs", you will enjoy the fine products available and the tasting of the various foods available in the market. If you get to taste the fine baked goods at Eleni's, or the fresh milk from Ronnybrook Dairy, to the scrumptous seafood from the Lobster Place, then you will realize it was worth the tour. For those of you that are "finicky" eaters, such as my friend that accompanied me, then this tour may not be the best for you (if it's not a Burger, then she won't touch it). All the rest should enjoy! Hopefully, you will be charmed by the tour guide (our guide was Cindy) as we were.

We were return clients, having taken the original Greenich Village tour, which we loved. On the Central/Soho tour, we found that the samples were smaller and less inspired, and oddly were introduced to several vendors whose food was described in glowing terms but then we never got samples of their fare. Nothing less interesting than descriptions of good food!

A not to be missed tour - so very memorable!

Our guide Ed was upbeat and enthusiasic as well as having the expected degree of knowledge. The tour was just the right pace and the food stops truly amazing. This was certainly a highlight of our trip to New York. Having only a few days in the Big Apple we were working on a very tight schedule. the only down side being that we should have planned more time to go back to all of the stores to brows and buy of course. We did both the Chelsea Market and Greenwich Village food tasting tours and I preferred the Chelsea and my partner preferred the Greenwich - I suggest you book both, time permitting and make your own mind!

Not as good as the Village tour
Fri, May 23  12:00 PM binky1 Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
Expected the tour to be more like the Village tour. Disappointing that 99% of the tour was in just one building. Meatpacking portion of the tour was extremely brief and of little value. Our guide had nearly lost his voice from some activity the night before, so it became very irritating to have to strain to hear him and to constantly be told to gather in closer to him so he wouldn't have to talk louder

Knowledgable Guides

Knowledgable guides gave insight into the neighborhood as well as informed descriptions of the culinary opportunities that were highlights of the tour. The neighborhood (if not the tour) will be on my itinerary the next time I visit NYC. I will definitely recomment the tour to others. I look forward to full meals in a number of the restaurants that were pointed out.

We really enjoyed the tour. I didn't realize we would be eating so much!! My daughter, who is a chef, wanted to move into Murray's Cheese Shop! It was a great time. I will certainly do another Foods of New York tour the next time I'm in town.

Our tour guide was absolutely delightful giving a sense of history to the food and the place. The weather was perfect as was the experience. I almost wish that the tour could have been extended to include MacDougal street area towards NYU and Washington Square.
