DO IT!

After seeing Emeril trot on down to the Chelsea market for the umpteenth time, I could no longer resist having a look around. Found out about this tour online, hey why not? Nice way to pass an afternoon. Cindy was our guide, lots of fun and very savvy. Went back to the Market afterwards to shop for restaurant quality fruit, veg, meat, fish, dairy (don't miss Ronnybrook Farms - creamline milk - yum), desserts. This market has it all. Enjoy! I recommend bringing an insulated bag (mine came in handy). I'll be back.

I have been on the Greenwich Village tour (4 years ago) as well as the Chelsea Market tour (this weekend) and they are both thorough, entertaining and interesting. Both of our tour guides were very knowledgeable and funny- and everyone in the group was impressed. What I thought was exceptional, one member of the group was allergic to shellfish, so when we were at the Lobster place, they gave him a nice loaf of artesian bread. Another guest was a vegan, so she received eggplant parm in place of some meat samples. This was very courteous on their part and well planned- as the host was ready with the food substitutions and presented them when the group was eating the scheduled samples. This is a great way to see the city and to learn about its history and I highly recommend this company's tours.

I take a tour every time I go to NYC...once a month or so....with goal of getting to neighborhoods off the beaten tourist path. I enjoyed the tour leader and the Chelsea Market area, will definetely go back for to the area on my next trip to the City.

Underwhelmed--But Go See For Yourself

We expected to walk more and explore both the Village and SoHo. Our village tour focused mostly on MacDougal street and immediate environs and the SoHo part I think was when we crossed Houston street and walked couple short streets like Sullivan. We wanted to see more of the area and actually walk--there were so many streets to explore! After the tour we were able to walk on our own so the tour did help with our sense of direction. The food was OK at best save for a nice little morsel of smoked food. One Italian store in particular was spoken highly of and we went inside but we didn't get any food. People wanted to stop and buy something but we had to move on. I appreciated the tidbits of information we were offered about the area. I would advise to stay close to the leader so that you can hear everything, as sometimes the cars and trucks were louder than the voice. It was an interesting outing, and it seemed that most people loved it. However, don't be surprised if you want to stop and have lunch after the outing is over.

A very informative and enjoyable day--good food

My 4 grown daughters and I feel we experienced Greenwich Village with this tour. The food was varied and excellent--so happy to have a chance to sit sometimes. Learnining about some of the restaurants was worthwhile, as they are unique to the area. Hearing about the history of the area was helpful, but just too long. Michael, our guide, had so much info and tried to impart as much as possible to us in an interesting manner. However, the tour was 3 1/2 hours long--just too long to focus. I believe 2 1/2 hours should be the max. I would like to go back there some day.

Yummy, often non-conventional tastings. Introduces you to unique shops and restaurants that you'd never discover on your own. Highly recommended for foodies and non-foodies alike!

The tour was absolutely amazing, the selected stops were wonderful. Our group had a wonderful time and days later everyone is still talking about what a great time we had. We are looking forward to another tour in the future and will recommend to anyone who is looking for a great activity in the city. It was an amazing time! Thanks!

Nice walk with multi-ethnic noshing
Fri, Sep 7, 07   12:00 PM k0466u Female Unspecified Local Individual
This tour gives a good overview of the history of the area with a bonus of multi-ethnic noshing on the side. Complimentary water bottle is very much appreciated since the walk takes place during the hottest time of the day. A list of the eateries in the area with contact details and descriptions is definitely handy to have for subsequent visits.

i have taken a lot of group tours (all over the world) and Cindy was perfect. I thought that the walking trip was balanced between the history of NYC and the food shops. Great job.

tour guide-Kurt was great

Even though we are all from Westchester, we had never been to Chelsea Market. The information was great, the food was great and the group was delightful. Kurt personalized the tour by getting to know everyone's name. Because this tour company limits the number in the group, it makes for a more enjoyable experience.

Recommend the tour but with a different tour guide
Sun, Aug 5, 07   12:00 PM carolynchoo Female Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
In general, I would recommend this tour, however, with a different tour guide than the one we had. The direction clearly states that we should be at the meeting locating 15 minutes PRIOR to the tour. This means that the tour guide should have been there earlier than 15 minutes. Our guide showed up late (at noon) and started to yell at me for calling the office to confirm the location and time. He also said that the direction on the internet is not very clear. Is this true?? Did we waste our time and show up too early??? There was no apologies for being late. The simple I am sorry (and I was running late) would have been appropriate. His attitude was very unprofessional and almost degrading. His attitude and stupid jokes ruined that tour that would have been very pleasant otherwise.

Wonderful and Entertaining Tour!

I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting New York! Our tour guide, Mike, was extremely knowledgeable about the area, as he must have been a resident of Greenwich, which really added to the tour experience - it gave you a flavor or what it was like to live in Greenwich - past and present! The food we sampled was delicious, and with the great commentary from our guide made this tour well worth the time and money!! Thanks for a great experience!

enjoyable tour, knowledgeable guide, lots to eat
Wed, Jun 27, 07   11:30 AM HollyEland Female Unspecified Local Family With Children
Tour guide Michael was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about Greenwich Village and its culture, food, history, etc. We were well fed (I was stuffed) by the end of 3-hour tour and well informed about available food establishments and specialty food shops plus restaurants in the neighborhood. All of the food was good. However, there was too much pizza - 3 different pizza stops in 1 tour is excessive. There was too much fried food, pastry and dessert . We had no fresh vegetables or fish or fresh fruit which was kind of disappointing. All of those items should have been incorporated even if that required a slight increase in tour cost.
