Simply fantastic

Visited NYC for a broadway show on Friday and took this tour on Sat. It was one of the highlights of my weekend. Loved our guide, food samples and group. Will definately go back to some of the restaurants I saw on the tour. The landscape/historical part of the tour (in my opinion) was enchanting. It didn't even seem as though I was in NYC at times.

Our tour guide Kurt was well-informed, humorous and eager to share his knowledge and enthusiasm with the group. We went to a large variety of places as well as having an interesting tour of the area. It was eye-opening...and tasty!

Great tour of Central Village

Thoroughly enjoyed this tour and the food selections. Feel like it's a better tour for people who will be in NYC a bit longer than a couple of days so that you can go back to these places and enjoy them. Was a bit disappointed with the 'Soho' part of the tour which amounted to essentially one block of Soho. A great block with 3 good tastings, to be sure. But barely skimmed Soho. This should be called just the Central Village tour.

Next time in New York we will spend a considerable amount of time exploring the Village on our own. I'm sure we will use the recommendations of restaraunts and food specialty shops. Our guide, Mike, was well prepared, engaging, and timely.

Cindy took us on a culinary adventure through Greenwich Village. It was one of the best walking tours I've done anywhere. She was delightful - fun, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Denise - Hamilton, Canada

This tour was excellent! Our group leader, Ed, was friendly and knew about the area in detail. We learned a lot about the West Village and enjoyed great food as well. The food tastings were spaced so that we were full but not too full. We can't wait to go back on our own to try several of the restaurants. We also plan to take a different tasting tour in the near future. It was a highlight of our trip.

Tasty Discoveries in the Village

If you are looking to get some inspiration on where to eat in the village and where to get the best food this tour really does it!!! It was great to get to visit a variety of shops in the area and get some information about the area you are in as well. My friend and I ended up going back to several of them to pick up some nice food or to go out to eat. Joe's Pizza go another visit as the pizza was very tasty - even with only a few ingredients they have managed to create a wonderful tasting slice. Not fatty and not stingy on the portions either!! We went back to Cornelia Street Cafe for some evening entertainment (one of the higlights of our trip to New York) and a lovely dinner as well. Going back to Little Havana for dinner was a real treat. You can taste the home cooked tast of the food and the love with which it was made. One day we decided to do a picnic on the Husdon and got our bread from Amy's Bread, the cheese from Murrays Cheese Shop and some delicious rice balls from Faicco's, followed by some Cookies from Milk and Cookies... it was HEAVENLY and brought back all the good memories of the food tour. Another place we went back to was Pesce Pasta - lovely anti pasta, agreat bottle of wine and some great food for a most reasonable budget. Snack Taverna was not covered on the tour itself but was in the leaflet and we had a lovely dinner there as well. Possibly the best taramasalata I have ever had!! The good thing about the food tour is that it gives you the feeling that any place covered in it, even if you do not get to taste their food on the spot, will be worth a visit in our case that certainly was the case. Our guide Heather had only been guiding tours for a short while but you would never know it form the way she brought the area to life with her stories and she managed to cover plenty of ground whilst going round whizzing us through the stops on the tour. You will never go hungry again in the village if you do this tour!!!

More history than food

Overall I enjoyed the tour, it was very informative, providing a historical overview of the area and highlighting current hotspots. But since the tour was specifically a "Food Tour" I expected a little more emphasis on the food culture and tastings. I would have appreciated more tasting stops as there was certainly enough time for them.

Okay but not great

I found that we heard more about the history of the area than the history of the food. The food tastings were excellent, but there weren't many of them. I can't believe the sparse food offerings for the cost of the tour (3 hours). I was also disappointed that we spent almost an hour walking around a park. If that entire section had been cut out, the tour would have been far better.

before we went to new york,we found this tour on the internet. we then read reviews. there weren't any that were negative, so we had to try it. we were so happy we did. we learned so much about the area , the foods, the people think highly of their neighbors-seem to really respect each other. we loved all the foods we tasted-my husband expecially loved the choc. chip cookies. our tour guide, dave, did a great job. we also were running late because of n,y, traffic, ran 6 blocks to get to murrays cheese shop, and lucked out; they were waiting for us. we were so appreciative. we would have been able to catch up, but we sure were relieved. a great tour, and we did have plenty to eat.

Interesting and Informative

Unfortunately the day we took the tour the temperature was 99 degrees with an excessive amount of humidity, which for me and our friends was very uncomfortable. Our tour guide,Heather, was pleasant and informative and with the temps so high she tried to spend a bit more time indoors, but a great deal of the tour was outside learning about the architect of the various buildings of the village. There was numerous stops along the way of food tasting. We all were hoping to taste more foods, but all in all it was informative and interesting.

My second time!

I went on the first tour last summer with my nieces, I loved it so much and talked about it so much I purchased tickets for my husband and me. Again, loved the food and the information about old New York. The tour guide was great and knowledgable, but the first tour guide was a "true" New Yorker and enjoyed her jokes and stories more. I think a tour guide from New York is more what tourist are looking for. My husband enjoyed the tour and couldn't compare it with another and he had fun! I would go again when company comes in from out of town but will request a "New Yorker". Worth the money, for sure. Mariann, from PA
