Most enjoyable insight

Despite a very cold day, our party of 13 were given a very informative insight to the restaurants and history of the meat-packing district. Our guide was very knowledgable and we learnt so much from her during the tour. The different stops for refreshment allowed us to sample a wide range of foods. Well worth the money.

Less Talk, More Food
Sun, Feb 26, 06   11:30 AM honda4hiro Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
For $40 a head, we expected more food. You only do get a real small sample per stop/tasting. The tour-lady is kind and enthusiastic; but she kept on talking and talking and talking... So basically if the 3-hour tour was only 1.5 hours, it would've been superb. Still would recommend to people.

fun and engaging tour with wonderful food

tour was excellent. we would go again and bring some friends next time. easy to recommend to everyone. what a great time we had. way more food than we expected to get. our guide Kurt was a ten out of ten. he made the whole experience way more than we expected. half the people on our tour were living in nyc. great to see so many locals and not all tourists. it makes us want to come back just to stay in the village and eat and walk and stay for restaurants and pubs and shopping. this is a must do for everyone visiting new york.

I gave this to my boyfriend as a present for Valentines day and we both enjoyed it GREATLY. First off, our tour guide (Kurt) was great - he was super friendly, very knowledgeable and funny. The food on the tour was not only delicious but plentiful (we were stuffed when we left). Both growing up in the NYC area, we both learned interesting facts and stories about the village that we may not have known. We also got some great recommendations for the "local" restaurants that we can not wait to try out!! I would definately recommend this tour to anyone who loves to try new foods and has an interest in NYC culture.

Great tour

This was a great tour! Great food (and plenty of it!), at multiple types of restaurants, peeks inside many of the small restaurants in the village, some of the old bars and speakeasies off the beaten path that not even New Yorkers know about, and some interesting historical info on the old village. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the tour was very well-organized. Highly recommended for everyone from locals like me to tourists from all over the world!

Greetings from Canada! Two good friends, spending one week in NYC visit Greenwich Village on reading week from University. The Greenwich food tour was the best thing we did while in NYC. Our tour guide, as seen in picture attached was an expert in the area and the group sat for hours listening to all his wonderful stories and history of the area. He answered any questions one may possibly have and was genuinely kind and hysterical. The food tastings were amazingly delicious and interesting and just made our entire last day in NYC the best it could have possibly been. Everyone should experience this tour. Canoli's, cheese, authentic pizza, breads, soup and more...all the finest and unique to the area! All I can say is that we lucked out in having the very best tour guide EVER! Thanks a million! Insider's Perspective of Greenwich Village
Sat, Feb 25, 06   11:30 AM SusanneMerte Female 50-59 Combination Family Without Children
Tour guide, Michael, was enthusiastic to share the Greenwich Village neighborhood with us. He seemed to be an encyclopedia of the history and folklore of the establishments and neighborhood and told us numerous bits of trivia, interesting details and stories. Several acquaintances were greeted on the street as we walked and one even added comentary to the tour. Michael pointed out obscure houses that were "invisible" to a passerby and we even went into a farm house originally built on the site that is now situated behind a restaurant. The colorful history of the area was romaticized and one quickly understood the dynamic change in the last few years. That is, it was once an area where poor working families could live. Now one must have substantial resources to rent or own in the village. All the food was delicious and the shops we visited were a satisfying variety. The chocolate chip cookie from the Milk and Cookies shop was heavenly. The most interesting site was Chumleys because of its mystique, history and "we'll do whatever we want" attitude. The next time I am in New York I am going back to Chumleys. I highly recommend the tour for locals and visitors. In a very short time one gains an appreciation of the neighborhood from an insider's perspective.

Great experience at a great price!

Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. The pace of the tour was great--the tastings were spaced out with small bits of architectural and historical information of the area. My friend and I hit almost all the major sites of New York--Empire State Building, Broadway Show, etc.--but the food tour was one of our favorite things. I felt comfortable enough with my knowledge of the area to go back on my own after the tour and enjoy more great food!

Texan finds new "small town"
Sat, Feb 25, 06   11:00 AM robertfarrow Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We really enjoyed the tour. The history of the area as well as the architectural information really enhanced the food tasting experience. We've now found a new small town we would like to visit. Three hours is just about the right length; any longer and the interest level would drop any shorter and I don't think you could see enough. Would love to visit some of the homes we peeked at from the outside. Thanks for a great tour!!!

Fantastic way to spend a few hours in New York!

A friend and I were in New York for 4 days recently and having read about the FoodTours online, decided to book the Chelsea Market one - it being mostly indoors, out of the winter chill. From the minute it began, this was without a doubt the highlight of our trip. Being total foodies, the range of fare on offer really impressed us, with the focus on natural ingredients and sublime taste! The contrasting businesses we got to visit and the seemingly unlimited access we were privy to was unexpected but so very enjoyable! Kurt Upton, our guide was the main reason this tour was as engaging as it was - hilarious and endlessly knowledgeable, Kurt's love of food and enthusiasm for the market, its inhabitants and the area was irrepressible.....to the extent of bringing the 15 of us to his friend Marjorie's bed and breakfast for a peek around!! We were so delighted to have discovered this New York treasure, we cannot wait to come back, visit the fabulous Chelsea Market again and take part in the Greenwich village tour - I highly, highly recommend an excursion with Foods of New York, a wonderful experience! We've been singing its praises ever since and will be for some time to come!! Michelle - Ireland
