Chelsea Tour Fabulous even in Extreme Weather

| Our family had the good fortune to experience the Greenwich Village Tour several years ago during a freak blizzard in March. The intrepid guide and the group soldiered on through the blinding snow for three hours. Although completely frozen, we thoroughly enjoyed the tour and loved the guide with his interesting stories, remembered long afterwards. So, we enthusiastically signed up for the Chelsea Market Tour for our trip to NYC this August. The day of our tour dawned a stiffling 98 degrees!! We decided that it was our family's fate to go on Food Tours during extreme weather conditions. But once again, the tour was worth withstanding the blazing heat. Our guide was a wealth of knowledge, and we sampled wonderful treats. We would do it again--maybe next time during a typhoon. | ||||||

| Dave was a very good guide, the walk great value, very helpful and a good way of seeing Greenwich Village. The different food was just enough and very tasty. This was my second tour the other being Chelsea Market and my review would be the same for that. I look forward to doing the China Town tour next. | ||||||

| We saw the food tour in the NYC Guidebook and decided to give it a try. It was the best thing we did during our time in NYC. Kurt, our tour guide, was extremely knowledgeable about Greenwhich Village, as well as other items in New York. He directed us to some great places to shop, dine, and hear jazz. The tour itself was a great way to see the Village; it was a nice break from the rat race of the city. | ||||||

| A special thanks to Curt for his knowledge, enthusiasm and humour. We thoroughly enjoyed every aspect of the tour. Later, we went for dinner at one of the recommended restaurants and enjoyed a memorable meal and a wonderful evening. Many thanks from Canada. | ||||||

Best Area Tour

| Even though it was pouring rain we had the best time on our Greenwich tour and I would highly recommend this tour service. I loved how we got significant size samples of food along the way instead of sitting to eat an entire meal in only one shop. The guide, although I forgot his name, was very knowlegeable of the area and NYC in general and did a great job teaching us about Greenwich Village area and the local cuisine. Thank You | ||||||

| The only thing that could have made this tour better is if it was 30 degrees warmer! Our tour guide, Curt, was phenomenal - funny, personable, knowledgable and considerate. The tour was well paced and the food awesome. We particularly enjoyed hearing about the history of the area, both the restaurants and shops while trying the delicious foods. My only regret is that we took the tour on our last day - there were many places we are going back to next year. On a side note - I have "bad' feet and found this tour very managable - there were opportunities to sit down a couple times so don't think that you will be on your feet for the full three hours. I would hate for someone to pass up this opportunity. The tour also attracted a really nice group of people. I don't think I've ever toured with a more polite and friendly group. I won't take this tour again next year - only because I am already looking forward to taking a different tour. Enjoy! And, Curt, I'll be looking for you on TV one of these days - keep them laughing! | Our guide, Curt Upton, was so warm and inviting. Not only was he very knowledgeable about the Greenwich Village area, he shared that knowledge with our group in a way that was entertaining, informative and relaxing. My group was astonished at the wide variety of foods and the "behind the scene" shop areas that we were privy to. We felt as if we had finally seen the "real" NY. I highly recommend the "Food and Cultural" tour (in any area) as a way to get to know the city, beyond the usual tourist attractions. The tour is definitely worth the time and money. | ||||||

| This was a great thing to do in NYC. Our guide was excellent--very knowledgeable and personable. We went to various restaurants and a couple of shops. The food we had was delicious. The tour was 3 hours, and the pace was just right. I was pleased with the information the guide gave about the area (history and miscellaneous info). We were introduced to restaurants and shops we might otherwise have passed by. I highly recommend this tour (Greenwich Village/SoHo). | ||||||

A nice menu, if a little heavy on cheese & bread

| Our tour guide was well-informed in regard to both the eating establishments and historical stops that we visited in the West Village. She also did an excellent job of establishing the context for tasting certain cuisines -- for example, the Italian immigration wave that established itself in the 1880s. And even though we're locals, we learned some nifty new places to eat and fascinating data about famous and not-so-famous people, places and things. Just be prepared that the tasting menu is heavy on flour and dairy, scarce on protein, and doesn't follow a soup-to-nuts pattern. In one stretch, we went from cheese balls to chocolate chip cookies to pizza to bread, cheese, olives and soppresata (the only meat) to cannoli dessert pastries. All in all, I'd give this a pretty high recommendation, particularly for laid-back tourists that are age 50-plus. Our friend from Seattle was the reason we took this tour and as a school cook and first-time visitor to NYC, she loved it. | ||||||

Some highlights/some disappointments

| I enjoyed the tour but found that the guide focused too much on the restaurants/shops and how much they cost etc. - it almost seemed that they were more concerned with future business for the participating companies than the current tour. I would have skipped a few of the stops (e.g. 2nd pizza) - focus on a few with an opportunity to sit down and enjoy the experience rather than rush through them all. I really appreciated the opportunity to hear about the history, iconic buildings and characteristics of the neighbourhood. | ||||||

| I have attended 2 other food walking tours and I have never been disappointed. This tour was no exception. We had rainy weather which made walking through the Chelsea Market perfect. Our guide, Curt, was fantabulous. His creative one liners took entertainment to a whole new level. Give this guy a stage. I could have gone another three hours listening to him. The food choices were varied and delicious. I was definitely full afterwards. Can't wait to try another food walking tour in the future. A definite must for any trip to NYC. | ||||||

| A group of friend went on the Greenwich Village tour last year and this year we took the Central Village/SoHo tour. It did not disappoint. Rahim, our guide was excellent and was flowing with fun facts of the area with great suggestions about everything from music to food. He made the experience so delightful, I hardly noticed the pouring rain. I can't wait to do another food tour on my next trip to NYC. | ||||||
