The best

Do this tour! It is one of the best things we have done on our visit to Manhattan. Our guide was Michael and he was entertaining, knowledgeable and witty. Don't miss it - you will have a fantastic time visiting all the hidden treasures of Greenwich village with a guide who is passionate about the area. The food we sampled was delicious and we would highly recommend the tour. Just do it!

Fascinating Tour with all the right ingredients!

This tour was top quality and highly recommended for first time visitors. New York can be seen as a large and scary place to explore - so having such an experienced and interesting guide meant that we truly felt we had 'done' Greenwich in a relatively short space of time. Despite a cold and rainy day, Mike (guide) was good humored, made a real effort to include everyone in the group and gave an excellent mix of current, historical, cultural, celebrity and food based information as we walked the beautiful streets. If you are a committed 'foody' this tour may not deliver to expectations as it is based around street food rather than fine dining but if you are looking to explore the area, get a truly local flavour of Greenwich with the food as an added bonus, this is a great tour. A mix of traditional NY staples such as pizza and cookies plus some Italian specialities and Thai dumplings thrown into the mix! There are sit down tastings at exactly the right points throughout the morning and a small group (10) really helped.

Great way to get to know a neighborhood.

since food is such an integral part of life, seeing a neighborhood through it's food is a wonderful introduction. Good food, and lots of it provide a background for the history and culture of Greenwich village provided on the tour.

Guide Barri was great and very knowledgable and the stops were very interesting. We went back to two restaurants she had pointed out, Home and Palmas, both great!

Our guide Barri gave us a fascinating tour of the East village and great peeks behind the scenes to places you would never discover (or have the cheek to visit) yourself.

A fun, thorough tour of Chelsea Market and area
Sun, Mar 2, 08   12:00 PM robz1330 Male 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Other
This tour is definitely worth the time and money. Several top shops are visited within Chelsea Market, as well as popular restauants of the surrounding area. The tastings are all of very high quality foods. There was more than enough food provided to suffice as a meal for lunch. The tour guide was fun, nice, and very knowledgeable, not the 'corny' type that I have encountered on many tours that is simply performing for tips. And, not only do you get to taste great food, you learn the history and other facts about the area while you are at it. Highly recommended!

Great Food and Great Guide

After taking the tour which was recommended by a friend, i was pleasantly surprised to find that the tour guide (Ed) was indeed local and brought up in NYC. He was a font of knowledge on all aspects of the tour, including the food, the history of the area, the culture, and basically a really good companion for the three hours. The pace was just right and the conversation fascinating. I would highly recommend that the tour is taken early on in your visit to New York; it gives an insight of the things you can expect. Also, if you take my advise - stay downtown, it’s far more alive at night with a much more varied list of things to do other than the usual Times Square thing...!!!

We enjoyed the tour through Greenwich Village. No running or "American" hurry - upping but relaxed. A lot of valuable information about history en present time - great food. Next time we visit New York we'll try another district.

A good way to fell the life in the neighbourhood

I really enjoied this tour because is different from the others of New York, usually guides show the most corwded part of new york. This tour offer tou the opportunity to see how life is in this nieghbourhood, how people live, the curiosity of the area, and the specific facts and history about the houses in greenwich village, which is a more peacfull place where to spend some hours in the city. The samples tested were very good and it's a different way to discover a nieghbourhood. I suggest to everybody to do it!

Informative, cold weather, hurried
Sun, Mar 2, 08   11:00 AM Lindaleelee Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Marie, was great, she was informative and she tried to be considerate of the weather. She answered questions when asked. The food participants were good, the background about the food was informative. The taste of the food was good. It would have been nice to have some other of the merchants participate. It was also nice to have the printed material of the merchants and be offered a discount if we were to shop there. My only suggestion would be if you could hook up with a realtor in the area and the tours could see an empty apartment or house and how New Yorkers live for the cost of things in that area.

Thought that there could have been more of the foods than the culture and history. we did your Chelsea tour a month prior and thought that was better, great! I think less places with more of a focus. Although we had a great time!

Great Experience

Our guide, barry, was upbeat, knowledgeable and interesting. we appreciated hearing about the different venues and their histories. the foods we sampled were tasty and in some cases flippling amazing! fun facts, like how off-off-broadway, off-broadway and broadway differ--punctuated the dialogue! we saw where dylan first performed, where allen ginsberg lived when he attended columbia, where joey (of friends) claimed to be his favorit eplace and tons more. it was a cold day, and i ended up buying a hat, which made all the difference. in fact, the only suggestion i'd make is that if it's cold out, and if there's a sunny area to stop at two feet away from a shadier area, the guide might consider that. during the summer, the same would hold in the reverse. all in all, if you're looking for a way to better appreciate this area of the city, take this tour. we were visiting from out of town, but we had a local with us, and she will tap into some of the tour's highlights again and again. we will revisit this area when we come to town again. THANKS

The Greenwich Village food tour was fantastic! It was wonderful to learn even more about this neighborhood, especially since I grew up and still live here. I really enjoyed learning about the area's architecture and hearing our tour guide's stories about the characters who have made the Village what it is. Thank you!

My parents & I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. Our guide Rashim was fantastic, he is passionate about food and knows the area very well. He combines lots of curious historical facts with interesting restaurants & stores with tastings that range from typical indian street food & a bizarre store dedicated to peanut butter to witnessing the artisanal process of hand making mozarrella cheese & jamaican pasties. At the end of the tour we had tasted about 8 or 9 different things which added up to a very hearty lunch.

Delicious and Delightful!

The Greenwich Village Walking Food Tour, led by Ed, was worth every second and every penny. We liked the combination of the area history while tasting the food along the way. We learned about an Italian saint while devouring a heavenly slice at Joe's Pizza. Next, we tasted two types of olive oil on a nice sourdough while learning that Oprah isn't a know-it-all afterall, and that we should not put our oil in the fridge. We learned about row houses from the turn of the century while eating an arancini ball from Faicco's, established during the turn of the century. We discovered a hidden gem called Palma on Cornelia street that was originally maids quarters and now a beautiful french kitchen serving the likes of Mick Jagger when he's in town. It got sweeter when we had a chocolate chip and rolled oats cookie at Milk and Cookies bakery while hearing about the sordid lives of the Cherry Lane theatre owners. Then, we dined on delectable dumplings at Lime before learning why some street signs are brown and others are not. We heard about the infamous Chumley's before crossing back over 7th Ave to cleanse our palette with cinammon gelato from L'Arte Del Gelato. Just in time for another slice, sicillian style at Bleecker Street Pizza. We heard why some neighborhood buildings are oddly shaped before learning that Murray is really a Robert, whose really a cheese whiz. 3 different varieties prove it. Rocco's fresh stuffed cannolli's provided the sweetest of endings to a great tour! Nice touch with the water to start off the tour. Good call on not allowing people to buy things until the end. One suggestion... replace the second (or first) slice of pizza with one more sit down at a nicer restaurant like Lime. Another suggestion. Provide two options at places where it's feasible or just as convenient. Rock on.
