One of the Best Things we did in New York City!
Fri, Sep 16, 11   11:30 AM marion68 Female 60-69 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Five family members from TX, AZ, and MN met in NYC for some fun times. The Greenwich Village walking food tour was fun and our guide very knowledgeable of the foods, the local area and fun to be around. The tastes were each unique and special. After the tour we did some serious shopping followed by a nice dinner at one of our stops on the tour. We would highly recommend this on a NYC trip.

A Very Pleasant Afternoon

Eight of my co-workers and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour and food tasting in the Chelsea Market and Meatpacking District. Even though we are all residents of NYC, we still learned a lot and all the food was delicious. Our tour guide Diana was great. She was upbeat, interesting and informative. If one thing could be changed, it would be better if the dessert could be the last thing we sampled and not the first. Otherwise it was perfect. This was our second foods of NY outing, and there are sure to be more in the future!

Great way to eat your way through Chelsea

This is our second food tour with Foods of New York and once again loved our experience. Chelsea is a unique neighborhood and it was great being able to learn about its history and current life all while eating delicious foods. Our guide Daryl was as entertaining as he was knowledgeable. Highly recommend this tour to anyway, whether they love in New York or are just visiting.

Nice balance of food, architecture and history!

Feel this was great value for money - and an insight into a tiny piece of New York - made me realise how long it would take to really get to know this city as we covered a miniscule part and there was so much to learn. Really liked our guide and the richness of her knowledge.

Tasty Day in Central Village
Thu, Sep 15, 11   12:00 PM micchris Female 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
Fantastic tour-a highlight of our honeymoon in NYC! I would definitely recommend this to tourists and locals alike. We started the day at a little Cafe and from there we began a historical journey through Central Greenwich Village and SOHO. Our guide was Diana (like Banana) and she was fabulous. She knew the details of all of the surrounding buildings and the history inside of them. Her pace was great and she was able to keep the group together and intrigued. The FOOD part was great too:-) We tried a lot of uncommon items for instance at the Indian restaurant while we could have had a curry we had Unda Bhurji Roll instead. Each stop along the food journey was delightful from fresh smoked mozzarella with sun dried tomatoes to a delectable chocolate and pear tart we enjoyed the food immensely. In fact we would like to stay in Greenwich Village next time we venture to NYC.

Maybe it's just a New York thing -

But maybe you could let us close to your venue? We met our enthusiastic guide, Diana, rhymes with Banana, at Caffe Del Mare; nothing much said about the Caffe, but I can tell you the bartender can pour a mean drink, I like him. At noon we were herded out and across the street where Diana gave us the rules, don't block sidewalks, don't block doors, etc...understandable rules. Then she told us about our first stop, Focacceria, across the street from where we were standing. My thought was, "why didn't we just stay across the street?"; well, it's apparently because they didn't want us in front of their business...Dianna ran across the street and came back with a bucket of sandwiches, made on the focaccia they make and we stood on the street, trying to balance our waters, cameras and whatever else and eat the sandwich, which was tasty, but none the less hard to eat without the insides squishing out on the pavement. A local couple and there little girl walked by to their home, located behind us (the doorway WAS open); but I'm not sure what they thought of this group of people standing outside their doorway. On to Masala Times, Indian food. A little tasty egg wrap was served, again on the street. Porto Rico Importing Company, coffee and teas, we got to go inside, but got nothing to taste...how about a cup of Joe guys? Montes - Italian was the first place we actually got to enter. We were so excited! And the Penne Bolognese was excellent. The chef was there, but did not greet us. I felt slightly unwelcome. After a long cultural part of the tour, and Diana was very good at telling us what happened where, and what was happening now, we went to Cuba, another sit-down of various empanadas. Here we were able to pre-order a drink to enjoy with. Then on to Joe's Dairy and Cheese, where we were lucky, I guess, since I understand they sometimes do, sometimes don't give you a bite. We had a lovely smoked mozzarella with sun-dried tomatoes. Our final stop was Once Upon a Tart, where, once again, we "enjoyed" our taste across the street from the venue, in the street. I've been to a number of walks and have never had so many make me eat outside, much less across the street. As I said, Diana knew a lot about the venues, and the neighborhoods, but as she told us, frequently, she grew up near there and lived there as a young adult. I also would have found the tour much more enjoyable had she taken a moment to have everyone introduce themselves, and where they were from (something I did when we were waiting for her to scurry across one street or another, and everyone felt much more comfortable with each other having a name to go with the face)...you always feel better traveling with friends. LindySez: I would do it again. It was an interesting neighborhood, but I would do it with my hands free.

Led by Sephrah, who is so much fun to be with, hilarious, knowledgeable, personable, witty (yes, I'm getting paid for this endorsement - haha) we had a spectacular afternoon of eating and learning about this area of New York. Lot of laughs; fabulous tastings, great group of people that mingled well together. If you do nothing else in NYC, take this tour. We went back the next day and made purchases at Murray's to take home with us.

Learned so much regarding neighborhood "flavor". The food, history and architecture gives you a sense of who lives there, who was there, their culture, etc. Sephrah gives a DELIGHTFUL tour! When I come with my husband I want him to go and I will request her again!!!!

This is my second time doing the Greenwich Village Tour and I must say it was even better than the first time. Marie was our tour guide and she did a fabulous job--lots of personality and very knowledgeable which made this tour so special. I liked the fact that we did not visit the exact same places as the first tour. I have also done three other tours with this company and enjoyed each one of them because each tour is unique. I suggest that you try one or more of these tours-you won't regret it! Kathleen H.

Excellent Tour! Can't wait to go on others!

Our group was led by the extremely knowledgeable and very entertaining Bert. The shops and restaurants we visited were excellent, but Bert made the tour. He knew the area very well, knew all about the places we visited and he was very friendly and engaging. Bert was born for this! Not only did he describe the history and uniqueness of each place at which we stopped and the food we were eating, but he filled us in on the history of the neighborhood, streets and even specific buildings along the way. Along the way he talked about other restaurants and shops in the area as well. I can't wait to get back to the neighborhood and try out some of the places he discussed and revisit some of the places we stopped at. We had a great time and are really looking forward to taking some of the other tours they offered. Bert's other tours are first on the list!

Fun, Informative and some delicious eats!
Wed, Sep 14, 11   11:30 AM nycwheels Female 50-59 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
My girlfriends and I really enjoyed the tour and would recommend it to friends. Our one critisism was that maybe the cheesecake at the end - while delicious was not really what one would call a typical American cheesecake which disappointed us. We loved the restaurant where we had the cake, but would have preferred the cheesecake to more "American". We thought that over and above the delicious eats, the tour gave us a glimspe of Greenwich from a different perspective. Many thanks.

Kurt, our neighbourhood guide made sure this tour was superb. A lot of insider information was shared in a very pleasant way. The food stops were great and the whole experience very recommendable.
