A MUST-DO when visiting NYC!
Sun, Mar 13, 05   11:30 AM Touress Female 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
There were 6 people in our immediate group, EVERYONE in the group had a great time. Kurt was our tour guide.....not only was he knowledgable of the shops, restaurants & the area but he was enthusiatically funny. A great sense of humor! Chelsea Market was a great place, fresh vegetables, meat, seafood, bakery items, wine, flowers - what else is better in life than to have all that indoors, under one roof? The lobster bisque was to-die-for in the seafood market! The local trivia was informative & the day was beautiful. Wear comfortable shoes & layered clothing, - you'll be indoors & outdoors. What a way to get acquainted with the area, enticing you to come back again to visit any of the places you visit on the tour. Enjoy!

An enjoyable afternoon

I've now done all three of the Foods of New York tours and have never regretted any of them. I will say that of the three, this was my least favorite and I would recommend one of the other two tours if you've only got the time for one. But if you can, do all three! They're great for native New Yorkers and tourists alike. I liked the history on the Greenwich Village tour the most and the food on the Chelsea Market tour the most. But the Soho tour is also perfectly delightful.

Chelsea Market Rocks!

We really enjoyed our tour of Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking area as we had never been before. Our tour guide, a Canadian who's a comedian with reddish hair....wish I could remember his name... was awesome! He was very informed and funny as well. We loved the extra touches he threw in like the tour of the brownstone and then the penthouse view from a local hotel just off 14th Avenue. I would definitely go back to this area to explore more. Loved it! The only thing that would have made this over the top would have been to have some glimmer inside the food network studios. The behind the scenes things are really interesting and sometimes thrilling for us, the viewer and supporter! Or a surprise visit with Mario Batali or Emeril would really set this apart from the rest and probably make it impossible to get tickets for! After the tour we went back to some of our favorite places, loved the tea house...the berry mix is awesome! We also went back to the lobster market and purchased steamed lobsters for us to dine on back at our rented apartment. It was just a great day and we would definitely seek out more tours like this. The Mama's from the Midwest!

This was a great tour! Great food (and plenty of it!), at multiple types of restaurants, peeks inside many of the small restaurants in the village, some of the old bars and speakeasies off the beaten path that not even New Yorkers know about, and some interesting historical info on the old village. The guide was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and the tour was very well-organized. Highly recommended for everyone from locals like me to tourists from all over the world!

Foodies should not miss this!!

Our tour guide, Barri, was incredibly knowlegeable about the history of Greenwhich Village and the SOHO area. Each tasting was DELICIOUS and well planned out! You get diverse tasting from Indian Kathi rolls to Greek yogurt. Our group of 3 spent the rest of the afternoon going back to make purchases from many of the shops! Our group also used the previous years' tour of Greenwhich village to make dinner reservations for this year's New York visit. Our group has attended every FoodTours tour and we hope they keep adding more!! But a repeat tour would be just as fun I am sure!!! We'll be back next year!!!

We all had a wonderful time on this tour. Cindy was an amazing guide giving us lots of history and "insider info". We even got to thank the developer of the Chelsea market for doing such a good job with the building!! The tastings were delicious and varied and we were all stuffed when we left!!! Can't wait to do another tour (the next time of Greenwich Village)!! I will make sure to ask for Cindy as a guide!! As a veteren "foodie" I highly recommend this tour!!!

Your food tour was recommended to me by a patient who had really enjoyed learning a little history of New York. We too, enjoyed learning about this area and was helpful in later deciding on places to eat and drink. Thank you, for a great and interesting tour.

My best friend and I only had 4 days to spend in New York (first timers!). We're big food fans and having sooo many places to pick from in NY, we thought this tour would be a great way to sample some of the best local fare. We were not disappointed! Cindy was the BEST tour guide, she was funny and witty and really made the history of the area come alive and kept us engaged and our bellies full. We covered a wide area at a nice leisurely pace. I read some of the other reviews saying that the samples weren't big enough - I wholeheartedly disagree - I thought the portions were very generous and of good variety. Being a Chicago pizza snob my whole life, even I cast my vote for the New York slices by the end of the tour. Now how about an all-pizza tour for us diehard fans! I don't mean to downplay the history portion of the tour, which I enjoyed very much. Believe me - If you love history, you'll love this tour. And if you hate history, you will still love this tour! Cindy doesn't give a boring textbook lesson, she regaled us with tales of the unique and the quirky, and yes, even the scandalous. (oh my!). This was truly one of the highlights of our trip - I would highly recommend it to anyone! Thanks again to Cindy - great job!

We had a wonderful tour with Curt. He was the perfect tour guide, smart, funny and knowledgeable about the subject. Just 15 minutes into the tour my friends were all saying how this was the perfect fun thing to do in NYC. The food was delicious and just the right amount for snacking and snacking!

Yet Another Outstanding Tour!!
Fri, Aug 24, 07   11:30 AM tooalto Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
This is my fifth tour with FONY and each one has surpassed the previous one. Our guide, Michael, was a walking encyclopedia of the Village, his facts delivered in the style of a great stand-up comic. We can't recommend these tours enough, both for New Yorkers and for the rest of the world!

As great as both of the other tours, this one touches on so many different types of food. Lots of historical info as well. Barri was a super guide, professional and knowledgeable. We have so many places to re-visit. I hope Foods of NY adds lots more tours. It's a big city!
