Great way to find the real New York

My wife and I (from Australia) spent a week of our holiday in New York (Manhattan) and despite pre-planning on seeing the 'major' sights, I also decided on a walking tour to discover a typical New York neighbourhood - and am so glad we did it. Our guide was excellent and the food divine. However, walking around Greenwich Village was the best way to immerse ourselves in the city and to meet some of its people. A very enjoyable and indeed essential experience for anyone wanting to visit New York.

Virginia was outstanding! She gave the tour a personal touch with her own background of living in the area all her life. The food was abundant and delicious. We were stuffed at the end of the 3-hour tour and experienced some new tastes. We highly recommend this tour and felt like it made our NYC visit complete. Thanks for the wonderful day!

We had a fun time with wonderful tour guide Annie. She personalized the tour for each participant., so much so that the youngest on the tour - an 8-year old girl - to the oldest - a 71-year old man - all agreed that they liked "everything" about the tour. Annie was very knowledgeable. I grew up in Brooklyn and have read much about the history of the areas we toured but learned new facts and definitely, new stories. We returned for dinner with friends to one of the restaurants we visited.

An great entertaining food tour led by Carl.

This was a great tour, led by Carl who's enthusiasm and knowledge was impressive. He began by greeting everyone individually as they arrived, and then proceeded to go round the whole group introducing us all, completely accurately, with our names and where we were from. His delivery was strong and clear and engaging. He was a bit OTT some of the time, but that is sort of essential if you want to engage people. Everything was 'the best xxxx in town', but hey, we loved it. We didn't need lunch, because, we had it en route, with about 6 or 7 tasters of various sorts. It was perhaps a bit biased towards the Italians, but we met the owners/chefs themselves and some times felt rather privileged to be speaking with them in their own restaurant. Carl really never let up, and the tour was one of the highlights of our visit to Manhattan.

This was a fantastic tour, the guide was amazing, she was entertaining, enthusiastic and fun. She had great knowledge of the local area as well as the food. The food we tried was amazing and there was a good amount. This was one of my best experiences while I was in America.

This was certainly a very special way to enjoy the foods of Japan. On the very positive side, both my husband and I found the food presented to be different, flavorful and extremely well prepared. So much of this we would probably never have ordered. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was beyond helpful and courteous. I had hoped to be in a room where there would be more interaction with other guests (perhaps a more casual and central kind of seating, instead of individual tables). Also thought we would get to see the preparation. It felt as if we were eating out by ourselves while someone was lecturing. The person in charge of the evening was charming, informed and always there to be helpful. Our feeling was that too much information was being presented, and it often detracted from the dining experience.

I am a local but always wanted to do a food tour in my city. This one did not disappoint! Our tour guide Susan was fantastic - she was friendly, entertaining and knew things as only a local could. We learned not just about the food but about the history and culture of the area. And the food! I have a very large appetite and I still left the tour stuffed. Forget about it being enough for lunch - most of us felt like we would skip dinner too. I will definitely do another tour from this company in the future.

We loved getting some of the flavors of the Village along with history. We had a wonderful time, not only tasting, but also exploring and getting insight into the Village. We had a 24 year old with us and she, too, loved it. I would definitely recommend it and already have done so.

This was my first trip to New York and only had 3 weeks to plan for it. I debated for quite a while on wether to take one of the food tours and which one would be best for me. I thought none stood out as a sure pick for me personally but the variety of food offered on this tour was what interested me the most. I went on one of the last days of my 7 day trip to New York. For the majority of the time there my husband was working and I was seeing the sights. I wished now I had taken this tour at the beginning of my trip so I could have gone back with him more than just one night. I also would have signed up for at least one more tour if I had known beforehand how much I would enjoy it. Then I could have shown HIM around for once. Our guide, Rahim was AMAZING. I could not believe the knowledge he possessed. He was versed in literature, music, culture, history, and of course culinary arts. I was astounded by how much he knew and shared with us. So many tours are either not informational enough or seem a bit canned. He was relaxed and personal with all of us. I was also a bit nervous about going by myself on the tour realizing that most people would be groups or couples and I wasn't sure of the age of most tourists. I was pleased to have a broad range of ages participating. I also met two sisters who were visiting the city together and we enjoyed one another's company during the tour. I loved the tour and can't wait to go back and see the others!

Enjoyed our three hour tour of an interesting area of New York. Sampled food from local/family run businesses who really cared about the food they were making. Heavily Italian/American food bias with a bit of Asian thrown in. Loved the cheese samples and fried rice balls. Tour guide Dave was a friendly and laid back and provided some interesting facts about Greenwich village. We only wished we had more time in New York to try the other tours. Lots of food to eat, don't have breakfast! Joann and Chris
