My friend, Sandy Harmon, and I (Suzanne Alton) took the food tour of Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking District on May 7, 2011 at 11:30 am with our tour guide Kurt. We thoroughly enjoyed the food selections and Kurt was an awesome tour guide. Kurt was knowledgeable, informative, funny and entertaining. We would highly recommend this tour to anyone.

My husband and I loved this fun way to explore the Chelsea and Meatpacking district of NYC. Our tour guide, Kurt, was very informative and quite energetic. He made the walking and eating tour very special. The Chelsea Market is a beautiful renovated historical building which houses many innovative food shops. The food tour is a great way to explore the city with other visitors and enjoy new foods.

Our tour guide, Kurt, had incredible energy and was filled with information about the area, restaurants, foods and businesses we were touring. An excellent way to visit an unfamiliar part of the city and activities there.

We came in from New Jersey and come into the city plenty but this tour gave us a new perspective and different adventure than normal.I took my boyfriend, a foodie and historian, as a surprise for his birthday. He loved it and so did I! Our guide was well informed and easygoing. The food samples were plentiful and delicious. The information on the area, it's history and architecture was interesting. We got turned on to some new shops and restaurants. All and all it really was a great time. I would definitely recommend this to others and hope to go on some of the other tours in the future. Compliments to the chefs and organizers.

Not Great

I have been on all of the food tours in New York City and on some more than once. This is the first time that I did the Chelsea Market Meat Packing District Tour and I would rate it the least satisfactory. There just is not enough, not enough to see, to hear about or different and interesting things to eat. The tour leader did a yeomans job of trying to make it interesting but it felt like he was stretching. The others in my party had also been on all of the other food tours and we all voted this one the least worthy. Try any of the other tours and I can guarantee a great time but I'd skip this one.

I went on this tour last week (early May) with my boyfriend, and we had a wonderful time. The dim sum was our favorite part, and we had some extra time at the end of the tour to visit some of the other recommended restaurants. I highly recommend these tours. It was nice to keep the group size small (less than 20), and the guide was dynamic and interesting. Great sense of humor & very knowledgeable!

We had an incredible day, the food was great, Burt was the very best tour guide, not only about the food, but about the history, and quirky things of the village. It was relaxed, enjoyable, and I learned so much about the Village that I had no idea about. My son and I (a chef) plan on doing this again and checking out the tours, and we highly recommend this tour. Ask for Burt, he is truly awesome!!!! Kathy And Adam from Massachusetts

Totally worth it!

Cindy was warm, funny and gregarious; she immediately made 12 strangers an extended family. She had so much to tell us about the neighborhood, the people and their businesses. The food was delicious and quite enough in lieu of lunch. We were welcomed warmly by all we visited. I definitely feel comfortable returning to the area on my own armed with a dining, pub, deli, bakery, dessert plan.

great tour - great information - one suggestion

i thought this was an excellent way to learn more about a neighborhood i love. as a local, it definitely opened me up to new places (and reminded me of some old favorites). i will be back for full meals. i felt the tour ran a little long and we could have cut some of the "digestion" time and done a little less of the neighborhood/architecture element - i would have been happy if this was just about the food.

Thorough intro to Chelsea and the meatpacking ind

The tour leader, Diana, was extremely enthusiastic and provided a wealth of information for our group at a dizzying pace (this is good) that kept the group on their toes and ready to soak in all of the details. There was a large group within our group (perhaps 12) that consisted of kids in their upper teens. While it would have been more interesting if there had been other group members to mingle with and talk to, it actually made the tour all that more intimate because the "kids" tended to hang back and were somewhat overwhelmed by all of the info and places that we visited. I was always at the front of the pack, listening intently to Diana who was superb in her delivery and energy level.

Barri's knowledge of not only the food, but the history of the neighborhood, was tremendous. She was very informative and made the tour very enjoyable. We left right on time and the tour ran a little over 3 hours. There was also plenty of food causing me to leave on a full stomach.

This was my third Foods of New York Tour and once again it was GREAT! If you are visiting the city, you must put this on your to-do list. It's a great way to see the different neighborhoods of NYC. Our guide, Marie was a sweetheart. She was very personable, enthusiastic and had a great knowledge of the history of the area which we really enjoyed. The restaurant/shop selections on the tour were very good. It was a nice variety and the food was of a very high quality. I can't say enough good things about this experience, my mother and I are looking forward to a return trip and taking the NoLita tour. Thanks Marie for a great day! Sincerely, Laura Smith, Buffalo, NY
