My two grown daughters and I loved the walking food tour through the Central Village/SoHo districts with our guide, Diana. Diana was wonderful as she was knowledgeable, enthusiastic, and just plain fun. We liked being with someone who is actually from New York, clearly loves it, and is able to impart what the city has to offer. The food tastings were fabulous! We really enjoyed ourselves in spite of the fact that the afternoon seemed to get colder and colder. Thank you so much for adding so much flavor and local color to our week in New York. |

This is the second time we've done this tour. No matter how many times you've visited NYC, in this tour you will learn so many new things about it! The tour is fun, well organized, and the food is great! The tour guide really knew everything about the neighborhood we were visiting. |

The food tour was a fun time, the guide was enthusiastic and knew a lot about history and more importantly the food. My wife and I loved it and had to go back to one of the local restaurants because the food was so good. I loved that you got to learn about a part of the city that we weren't staying in....was a great experience. |

This tour with my particular tour guide seemed very frantic. It was almost like if we didn't move at breakneck pace, the whole universe would explode. The guide also had this off-putting habit of calling out our names at random intervals. I know that if I read this, I would think, wow, he knew everyone's name? That's awesome! Trust me, it's not. He uses it like a kindergarten teacher trying to get wayward students back on track. Psssst, guide, pronouns are your FRIENDS. Also, most of the tour revolved around him--when HE went to Italy, ohhh, his very rich friend who's an actor donchaknow and just bought a 15 million dollar house and oddly, gossip about the guy that writes the Olivia books--like he was trying to make himself interesting by showing that he knew interesting people. Probably the best example of this is when he took the group to Del Posto, one of Mario Batalli's (sp?) vehicles. It's one of those restaurants that is so fancy it doesn't have the prices on the menu. It's also not a part of Chelsea Market. It's across from it, yes, but it has only a geographical connection to it. Yet in we went, in t-shirts and tennis shoes in this NICE restaurant where at 3:30 in the afternoon, people are already dressed to the nines. It would have been worth it had their been samples (there weren't), we were given a tour (we weren't--we were put in the corner, a la Baby), had architectural significance (don't get me wrong, it's a nice place, but it's nice in that way that ALL nice restaurants are nice. Classic, understated, generic--it could have been NYC. It could have been New Orleans or Toronto or Paris), or related to the market.
The main point of this seemed to be that HE had eaten there--he told us all about that and how his boss paid. Wish his boss would have paid for us too. The tour went on in this general vein--we saw the bathroom at Morimoto's--which was REALLY cool, don't get me wrong. But a Japanese sushi restaurant is not relevant to Chelsea Market except for geographically. Once again, no tour of the place, no samples, just annoying the actual patrons by gawking at the bathroom. We then literally RAN across the High Line, which could have been a highlight but wasn't, because we had to look at the first floor and backyard of some friend of his multimillion dollar abode. That was in Greenwich Village. Not Chelsea Market. The tour disbanded soon after--15 minutes late and not even in the market on a very meh note.
Most of those things, however, are minor annoyances. The biggest problem I had was in order to do the "extras", less time was spent in the market itself. For example, we went into Sarabeth's and some Italian grocery store and had truly fantastic samples. But at no time did he say, this is the product. Here's the history of it. Here's the price. It's over there. I'll give you time to make your purchases and look around. Before booking, find out who the tour guide is and where he goes. |

Enjoyed the entire tour. I took it with my 18 year old daughter so was somewhat skeptical of what her reaction would be. Can safely say she enjoyed the food, the other folks on the tour and our guide, I think she may even have learned something about the history or NYC. Our tour guide, Darrell, was extremely enthusiastic, and entertaining. I had done some research on the area prior to the tour and Darrell was able to add to that knowledge with his insights. The food was more then I expected, in terms of portions, taste and type. It offered a good example of what Chelsea Market. is all about. Our guide pointed out other restaurants, shops and businesses in the area. He even allowed some time for personal shopping within the market tour. This is my second Foods or New York Tour in the last 8 months. Would recommend taking the tour early in your NYC visit. This allows you to return to enjoy some of the sights and restaurants later. This tour comes highly recommended and look to enjoy a third tour on my next visit to NYC. |

The tour was really part of a fun, delicious day. Our tour guide was very personable and had many interesting facts about the neighbourhood and of course food. Over all I would really recommend this tour to anyone interested in food and the great spots to find it in Greenwich Village. |

The tour guide was very personable and well versed in the West Village area and the local fare. The tour was fun as well as informative and the various servings of food were just delicious! A wonderful way to spend the afternoon outdoors - eating drinking and learning about such a charming part of the City. |

Can't think of a better way to get an insight into the city in three hours. Our guide presented a weath of information with humour and enthusiasm. The food was great, of course. What we didn't expect was the context it came with: the history, the architecture, the musical and cultural background. Our favourite bit of New York, and the highlight of our week. |

We loved the tour guide, Bert, he was enthusiastic, knowledgeable, and very caring with the group at large. I really enjoyed his commentary about the Village and its history. I never realized that there was so much color and mystique to this area. My granddaughter was thrilled with the tastings. We will surly return to the Village on our next NY sojourn. |
