History for Foodies

Walking food tours give you the scoop on where to eat from authentic New Yorkers, so you’ll benefit most by taking the tour early in your stay. We had a blast eating our way through the village, and learning the food and drink history from pastry feuds and cheese shop legacies, to an exciting speak-easy escape route. Our tour guide was fun, friendly, and most informative, handling our group’s off-the-wall questions and wonderings with aplomb. Tourist or transplant, if you love food, you will love this tour. I highly recommend the Greenwich Village Food Tour and this tour company. Thanks!

My husband and I took his parents who are from St. Louis on this tour. It was a lot of fun for us even as Brooklynites. Our guide was knowledgable and friendly. We learned a lot about Greenwich Village and got to taste some of the best foods the area has to offer. I would recommend this to anyone who likes to eat and has an interest in the Village.

We throughly enjoyed the Chelsea walking tour and highly recommend it to everyone! We had a wide variety of delicious food and had so much to eat that we couldn't eat the dessert. The tour of the meat-packing district was wonderful---again highly recommend this tour!

The walking tour of Greenwich Village was absolutely one of the highlights of my trip to NY. It was entertaining, informative, and simply delicious! The food samples were generous -- I found myself wishing I'd skipped breakfast that morning. I just wish I had done the tour at the beginning, rather than the end, of my trip, because I was introduced to many wonderful eating establishments and would have LOVED to return to them later on my own. Highly recommended!!!

Great tour. Found an excellent French restaurant, Le Gigot, and oyster bar, Fish, and learned more about the village than any book or general tour.

Perfect synthesis of food, fun, and facts

We all three really enjoyed the tour as it exposed us to a great variety of food with many exciting places to revisit. The tastings are very generous and more than enough to be considered as lunch. I believe the guide could have shortened the historical portion of the Village just a bit to shave off 15 to 30 minutes. More than 3 hours with a group starts to feel too long, when the tour and information is really very interesting. Our guide was friendly, informative, and enjoyable to follow. You could easily tell that she was respectful of the restaurants, enthusiastic about food, and knowledgeable about the entire area. She was superb.

The Tour Was Excellent

The tour was a delightful way to spend a few hours. It provided me with the history of this area of the City and included projected future plans for the area. Touring old buildings that have been transformed into useful businesses was fun to see and fun for shopping. I plan to revisit this area again. The guide was pleasant and answered any questions the group presented. The group was small enough that we were able to bond for the three hour walking tour. This also made it very pleasant. While this is considered a walking tour, there was ample time to take a few short stops and sit for a bit. I highly recommend this tour to others and hope that they enjoy it as much as my friends and I did. Considering all that was included, we did not feel the need to have lunch, and in fact, I had a light supper that night. I'm now looking forward to taking another tour that I will book through Zerve.

A few months ago we went on the Greenwich Village Walking tour and we thought that one was wonderful. However, the Chelsea/ Meat Packing is just as wonderful. Our tour guide Todd was most informative and pleasant. Our tastings were delicious and fun. It's amazing the history that is here in NYC and to be shared for everyone's enjoyment. We highly recommend this tour to everyone. We will definitly be joining other Zerve tours in the future.

This was a great way to spend the day, and I learned a lot about the history of Greenwich Village. The food samples were all yummy and good-sized, and there was a fun story to go along with each of the restaurants and shops. They showed us several quaint restaurants that I never would have found otherwise as they weren't in the normal restaurant guides. We went back to one for dinner and had a lovely dinner in a courtyard without reservations and the hassle of the more popular hotspots. Given the amount of food tastings and quality of the tour, I think its a very fair price.

Really worth doing. Tour guide was fun and knowledgable, and the tour length was about right. We learnt lots of things about Greenwich village which we wouldn't have found out otherwise, and the food tastings were great. Having the bottled water supplied was a nice and essential touch. We certainly plan to re-visit some of the places visited and would certainly want to do the other food tasting tour of Chelsea. A real find and great value for money!

We are so happy we chose to do this tour. We had been to NYC 2 years ago and I thought about it but never really followed through. It was such a great way to see the Village. We learned so many interesting facts that I have shared already with so many people. I want to be able to find "Chumley's Speak Easy "again. We loved all the foods we sampled and the variety of them as well. Our guide was very interesting and had the best and quirkiest sense of humor. He was young at heart and had the sayings and soul of someone older than his years. I would take this tour and plan on a nice afternoon.
