Wonderful mix of foods and history of the area
Thu, Oct 6, 05   11:30 AM npraguetour Female Unspecified Domestic Tourist(s) Other
Our tour group was a mixture of ages (mostly women) and the tour appealed to all. The foods sampled were varied and plentiful. It was wonderful to have the opportunity to taste a sampling from the West Village and Greenwich areas and to have the rich history and culture explained in the process. New York is so much more than just Midtown Manhattan and this tour provided an opportunity to explore the richness and depth of an area filled with history and charm. One of my favorites on our tour! The only criticism that came from my group was that perhaps there could have been more opportunities to sit while listening to the tour guide - standing got a bit long for some. They all said that they would definitely recommend this tour!

Highlight of our trip

This really is a fantastic tour packed full of great hints, tips, ideas and facts that the guidebooks fail to mention. Even if you have been to NYC before, I'd recommend this little trip as it shows you the city from a different perspective. It's great value for money as well as you get plenty of yummy food to try as well as learning about the area. Obviously I can't speak for all the guides but I am sure they are all as great as ours, Kurt, who was brilliant - it really was the highlight of our 5 days in NY! My tip for people thinking of doing this tour would be to do it as early in your trip as possible so you can take advantage of all the great restaurant recommendations you get! More interesting, personal and witty than the mainstream tours and much less touristy this really is a must-do when in NY. Vikki & Gordon (UK)

We loved the tour!

We really were glad we went on the Food tour. The guide was very good and knew the area and had interesting stories about the area. We were surprised at how much food was included. We would highly recommend the tour -- and I intend to call two of my friends from Ohio who might be going to the area in the next 2-3 months. We went back that night to Palma for dinner that night and stopped by the speakeasy for a quick drink before dinner and ran into another couple who had been our our tour earlier in the day. They must have enjoyed it, too!

The highlight of our trip to NYC!

Although I knew we would be eatting some great food, I did not expect the fascinating history lesson we received on the neighborhood. Our tour guide kept us entertained throughout the entire tour and we did not want to see it come to an end. We will definitely recommend it to all our friends and we will be back for sure!

Overall a fantastic experience. I lived in New York a number of years but learned quite a bit from the tour. Food was very good. Guide (Mahalo Cindy!) was outstanding in every way; she made the tour! My girlfriend and I had a blast. I will definitely recommend this to my friends and family as well as take the tour again with them and/or the Chelsea/meatpacking district one.

Extremely disappointing and boring

I was very disappointed in this particular tour. Though it may have been due to my age, I found that we did not do much walking (after an hour I could still see where we started!) and most of the information we got was tedious and seemed to be randomly inspired by things our tour guide saw. I actually left after an hour, because I felt that my time was better spent exploring rather than being stuck with a very slow moving tour group. I felt it was a waste of my money.

Informative and time saving

It would have taken weeks to find out what was laid before us in a little over three hours. The guide was enthusiastic and this added to the enjoyment of the day - food, history, architecture, local knowledge - a thoroughly good basis for a further visit if I have more than a day next time. It was good for me, coming from England, to meet people from other parts of the United States, including Long Island!

An intimate look into a New York neighborhood

The best part about this tour was getting to know the history of Greenwich Village. Oh, and the food was more than what we hoped for. We got a feeling of the people that make up the neighborhood and the chefs that keep the neighborhood fed. We started our week with this tour and it set the tone of our trip. THANK YOU for such a FINE beginning. This should be a must do for anyone visiting New York.

Our tour guide was charming and knowledgeable. She always graciously took the time to answer questions fully, which is not always the case on tours.

WOW! Great experience!

A group of friends and I wanted to try something different, and experience the city at the same time. We couldn't be happier having chosen Foods of New York. We're local, but find there is always something new to find here. Our guide was informative, and loads of fun. Who knew there was so much we didn't know about Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking District. Discovering the old and new New York is amazing, and the food was scrumptious. I'd recommend this tour to any one, and look forward to our next try.

great experience

This is the 3rd time on the tour in 2 years. I've also been on the Chelsea Market tour. I have to say that this time around wasn't as good as previous. Mike was great, but spent way too much time stopping and introducing us to his friends who were passing by on the tour. Their stories did indeed give tremendous color into the nature of the Village, but I felt that it detracted from what we could have covered based on my past tours. He was very good at taking us back in time to immigrant NY and the bohemish element that thrived through time. I would still highly recommend the tour.

Good food, good history!

Loved the history of the village as much as I enjoyed tasting the food. I do recommend doing this tour at the beginning of your trip because it is a lot of standing for several hours and you can go back during your trip and eat at some of the restaurants in the village. I loved the quietness of the village and almost wish the tour had started earlier because by the time the tour was over (2 p.m.), I felt we were in the way of the locals and other tourists. I think if it had started at 10:00, it would not be as crowded. Overall, I was excited to find new restaurants to try on my next trip to NYC. This tour was a great value for all the food and history you get in 3 hours. This would be a great gift for someone who lives around the NYC area or someone who is going to visit.

Everything was wonderful. Susan the tour guide was very informative and very friendly. The concept of the history of neighborhood and tasting different foods along the way was so nice. I would recommend tour to anyone. I'm planning on trying a different tour the next time I visit the city.

Didn't let a sprained ankle keep me from coming!
Sat, Oct 1, 05   11:30 AM brendadonova Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
On the way to the Greenwich Vilage Tour, I fell and sprained my ankle while crossing a street in Manhatten. Hopped in a cab because I didn't want to be late. Loved the tour. My only disappointment was that I missed the last thirty minutes because my ankle became too swollen to walk any further.
