Nice slice of food and history

Kurt the guide was quite the catch. He was organized, memorized every first name sucessfully from the start (I would guess there were 14 of us) and could easily engage in both personal and professonal discussions with detail and humor. The descriptions of places, history, restaurants, and selections of food were quite good. I would recommend this to anyone --it was a great way to spend three hours and have a "grazing" style of lunch. This tour is not wheelchair compatable.

best tour - even for locals. not just for foodies

i knew we would eat some good munchies - and indeed we did enjoy the food. But i was completely thrilled with how much we learned and laughed. Even as a local new yorker, i saw blocks i never knew of, and learned about architecture and the history of new york. To top that off - our tour guide Kurt was just hilarious. He was so knowledgeable regarding food, it's preparation and it's presentation. But he was also a high-energy smooth-talking comedian. He knocked Leonardo and Cher, but in a tasteful sarcastic manner - so as not to offend our polite out of towners! He was friendly and sincere with the store owners and really made us feel like insiders. I would recommend this tour to anyone who likes to smile and eat - whether you are from south dakota or soho. the one thing to be aware - bring your lactaid pills if you need to - most tastings have some dairy in them and when you are in the vip room of murrays cheese shop with a small group of strangers - you don't want to make enemies with your emissions! Great job Kurt, Foods of new york - and Zerve - for telling me about this tour when i really was calling to book a magic show!

Curt set the bar extremely high for any future guided tours. We were thoroughly impressed and the experience far exceeded our expectations. His knowledge, style and demeanor made what might have been ok, just fantastic. He made the tour very enjoyable and interesting. We felt it was a good value, fell in love with Greenwich Village and, how could I forget, the food tasting was awesome. We would very highly recommend the tour to others.

The guide was outgoing, knowlwdgable and freindly, although somehat opinionated about local politics and community issues. Although a very good tour for me, my spouse did not like some of the food tasted such as the smoked mzzarella cheese. Overall avery good experience and an excellent manner to learn more about the city noeighborhoods. We would do this again!

Our guide, Sam, was a delight. He was knowledgeable, interesting, and funny. The food samples were delicious. We learned a lot about the area and the businesses, and we enjoyed ourselves immensely.

A work colleageue in SF recommended this tour. I am from SF, my friend who I was visiting, lives on Long Island. We loved it and Sam our tour guide was great, very personable and enthusiastic. I didn't know anything about the Chelsea Market, and since I Iove to cook and eat , it was right up my ally. We both loved hearing about the history of the market and surrounding area. We also loved the treats served along the way. I would highly recommend this to a local or an out of towner. In fact, my New York friend is thinking about doing this as a birthday celebration with some of her girlfriends. I only suggest that you come hungry, as you will fill up on some very tasty food during the afternoon. It's a great way to spend an afternoon in NY, particularly if you are a return visitor to Manhattan, looking for something different, or a local wishing to learn more about the area.

What a great combination of neighborhood cultural/historical information and ethnic neighborhood food. Rahim, our guide, clearly knew the neighborhood and enthusiastically told personal and other stories. We were treated to food experiences that we would otherwise never have found. Take the tour at the beginning of your time in New York, because you find lots of places you will want to go back to for food and entertainment. We did, and we did!

Raheim was our guide. What a great guy and very knowledgable. Raheim had some BIG shoes to fill. Our other guide has been Cindy, who was wonderful as well! We recommend these tours without a question! Thanks for being in business and continued success to you all. Suzanne

Yummy and Enlightening

Our tour guide, Cindy, was warm, enthusiastic, and full of knowledge about the foods, restaurants and other vendors, and the neighborhood. All the food samples were delicious. I'm from NYC originally but have lived on the West Coast for 35 years and was in NY on vacation with a friend who'd not been in NYC before. Both of us had a wonderful time, and I can attest that it was a real "taste of NY" in many ways! I highly recommend this urban adventure as fun and educational, and very well run by FoodTours (and Cindy!).

A Great New York Experience

We enjoyed the tour of Bleeker Street so much that we are going to take the other tours offered by Zerve. We go to the city on a regular basis but never thought of taking a walking tour. Our tour guide was very informative and a pleasure to walk with. After the tour was over we walked the area and enjoyed the restaurants and shops - bought the best olive oil, Italian sausage and cheese. As a result of the walking tour we are more informed about the area and will be going back soon. The tour guide made the walk exciting due to her knowledge of the city and her great personality. We received the tour as a gift and think it is a great gift to give.

My friend was visiting from Texas, and having never visited the northeast, I thought he would enjoy a trip to the city. I found out about these tours while researching things to do in the city online and found that the Greenwich Village Food Tasting and Cultural tour was quite popular... and with good reason. We began our tour with a stop at the best pizza place Ever. Throughout the tour we also stopped at an olive oil store, a meat specialty shop with divine rice balls of delight, a cheese shop, a cookie shop, another pizza place, a Thai restaurant, and bakery. All of the food was delicious and you definitely won't leave hungry. We also learned about the culture and history of Greenwich Village. You will learn quite a bit about the architecture in the area, which I found to be fascinating. There are many unique buildings and stories to go with them. My friend's favorite spot was an underground room with colorful lights and a quaint stage for performance art. This tour is definitely something you can't miss while you are visiting New York. I plan to take my friends back to the area and show them what I have learned. It was a great experience.

Best value for money - and fun!

We recently spent a week in New York. We had a great time and there were many highlights. The Greenwhich Village Foodies Walking tour my husband and I did with Kurt was, definitely in our top 5 activities. The criteria was: what would you go right back and do again? Kurt knew how to quickly build rapport with every person in the group, and kept the pace cracking and the fun up. We had lots of great food samples and met like-minded people from geographically dispersed places with similar interests to us. I have already recommended this tour to foodies who appreciate the good things in life like wonderful architecture, a pleasant walk, and light-hearted New York history . Thank you. There's much more to New York than Times Square
Wed, May 21  11:00 AM mlawrenz Female 50-59 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Having only been to New York for a brief visit once previously we needed a confidence builder to help us get out of the usual museum, harbour tour and Central Park rut. The Greenwich Village Food Tasting and Cultural Tour was exactly what the doctor ordered. Our tour guide was personable, knowledgeable and funny; taking the time to learn each of our names and making us feel at ease. We visited a good cross-section of restaurants in the area, tasted some delicious samples and we were even introduced to some of the owners of the restaurants and shops we stopped at. In addition to the food tour, we also walked some of the quaint and winding backstreets to absorb some "Village" culture. In the final evaluation, this tour was one of the highlights of our week in New York. We became familiar with an interesting area of the city that was previously unknown to us, and perhaps the most revealing measure of success was that we returned to the "Village" on two subsequent evenings to dine at a couple of the numerous restaurants in the area.
