THINGS I DID NOT SEE ON MY FIRST NY TRIP

| This is my second trip to NY and I was looking for an activity that gave me a better feel for some of the neighborhoods. This fit the bill perfectly. I had read the reviews posted and decided on this tour. I loved the insiders view to Greenwich and found it a very funky neighborhood. I was happy to finally find the "Friends" apartment building on this trip. The only disappointment was echoed in some of the previous reviews. While the food tasting was a great idea and filling, this particular tour was too "bread heavy". Tastings were pizza, olive oil and bread, cheese with bread, olives and salami, thai dumpling, piece of chocolate, cookie, pizza and cannoli. Two pizza tasting were redundant-the second stop with the sicily style would suffice. I would have liked another protien (non bread) ethnic item instead. The olive oil place and spice shop where we were given a chocolate did not generate too many "Ooohs" but the cookie bakery was fantastic. I would like to try the SoHo tour next as I read it stops at PB&Co. Would like to see Dean & Deluca shop added on that tour and Pomme Frittes as well. Chinatown tour sounded good and it was listed at half price but was sold out for the period we were in town. Ovewrall, good value for the money. Informative and a dfferent thing to do in NY. | ||||||

| Cindy took us on a culinary adventure through Greenwich Village. It was one of the best walking tours I've done anywhere. She was delightful - fun, enthusiastic and knowledgeable. Denise - Hamilton, Canada | ||||||

| This tour was outstanding! Our guide was not only knowledgable but engaging and entertaining as well. He was only one of the components that made this such a fun tour. The food was outstanding, the stores were unique, the cultural history of the Village was colorful and the actual walk was quite enjoyable. What a great way to spend an afternoon! | ||||||

| The tour was terrific, both for relatively new residents of the area and for our out-of-town guests. The guide was friendly, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable. The food tastings were excellent and filling. We went back for dinner at one of the places a couple of nights later. Be warned, though, the tour is long and there is very little opportunity to sit down. So be prepared and take the chances to sit when you get them! | ||||||

| What a pleasant surprise! What a tasty tour! Our guide, Marie, was very informative and friendly! She kept us on time without rushing us through anything! The choices of businesses for the tastings was a great variety. I have recommended this tour to friends and will add another tour to my next NY visit. | ||||||

| This tour was excellent! Our group leader, Ed, was friendly and knew about the area in detail. We learned a lot about the West Village and enjoyed great food as well. The food tastings were spaced so that we were full but not too full. We can't wait to go back on our own to try several of the restaurants. We also plan to take a different tasting tour in the near future. It was a highlight of our trip. | ||||||

| My husband and I took the tour. We loved every minute. Our tour guide Kurt was so knowledgeable about the area and as we passed people that lived in the neighborhood seemed to know him. Kurt began the tour by introducing each one of us - remembering all our names and faces plus where we were from. Oh how we wish that in our neighborhood we had stores like - the Ottomanelli's butcher shop, Murray's Cheese Shop, O&Co. Olive Oils, the Italian bakeries - to die for!! And, the next time we visit we will definitely visit this area again and take the Chinatown tour as well. We loved the tour so much that we tried to schedule the tour of Chelsea with Kurt the next day b-4 leaving only to find that it was sold out. However, based on how pleased we were with this NYC tour we have booked a tour with Zerve in Boston on Wednesday, June 25. | ||||||

| Overall I enjoyed the tour, it was very informative, providing a historical overview of the area and highlighting current hotspots. But since the tour was specifically a "Food Tour" I expected a little more emphasis on the food culture and tastings. I would have appreciated more tasting stops as there was certainly enough time for them. | ||||||

| I found that we heard more about the history of the area than the history of the food. The food tastings were excellent, but there weren't many of them. I can't believe the sparse food offerings for the cost of the tour (3 hours). I was also disappointed that we spent almost an hour walking around a park. If that entire section had been cut out, the tour would have been far better. | ||||||

| I live here but my sister was visiting me .. and this was her very first trip to US and New York. This tour put her on the top -- not only did we have fun tasting different things, but also the history of the Village - the many interesting people who have frequented these stores, restaurants -- the little gems along the way... :) She of course loved it. I was hoping to get a fun time but I guess even a ntive has much to learn... I would recommend this for one and all. Diana - you are a considerate, patient guide. | ||||||

| My son and I were concerned that a heavy rain would diminish major features of the tour. It did not. In spite of heavy rain, we visited each of the locations. We had unbrellas, but our tour guide provided rain ponchos for those who did not. The tour guide was pleasant, informed, enthusiastic about her job, and attentive to the questions and interests of a diverse group. An extremely valuable feature of the tour is that the food establishments we visited (especially some small restaurants and shops to which I was introduced) will, in several instances, be experiences I will revisit. I visit New York twice a year. Because of my experience on this tour, I plan to schedule other Verve tours on my future visits. | ||||||

Great guide, nice tour but food bland & uninspired

| No question guide was best part of experience and was enthusiastic explicator of area haunts & history. Altho $44 doesn't require knock out food or big portions, it should be warm ( tour began late and food was prepared for earlier arrival), tasted bland (i.e., potato gnocchi at Monte's & potato pizza at last stop), and uninspired. Nothing exotic needed. Why not try a little red sauce or something familiar to compare against? Authentic Italian pasta maker & cheese maker across from St. Anthony's Church were great and tasty. Indian Bakery was good as well as Sullivan St. Peanutbutter Co. with taste of curried chicken in pb sandwich. One bone to pick: tour need to be prepared for vegans or those with food allergies for alternate offering(s). (There were insufficient quantity of substitute to satisfy the number of people in these categories in our group.) Another quibble: Tour covered many spots but ommitted mention of a few notable restaurants in the area that are on par with, or superior to, Monte's, et al. Best part was learning history of area. In summmary, it was a good tour because of our guide and nice walk around the area, but food, in general, was disappointing. Correct that and you have a 5+ star experience. | ||||||
