Great New Way to Experience NYC
|

| My husband and I went on this tour as part of his birthday celebration. We had a great time walking around with the group and learning more about Greenwich Village. The tastings were fantastic and perfectly timed. We even learned about a lot of other restaurants and hangouts in the area that we could come back too. We are from Queens and we love walking around the city and experiencing new things. The tour really opened up the area for us! We want to take the other tours that Food Tours of new York has to offer. | ||||||

History lesson?

| We received the tour as a gift, and went this past Saturday. Unfortunately, this was also the first 90+ day of the year, and it was unbearable. This obviously wasn't the tour guide's fault; in fact she went out of her way to keep us in the shade. However, what I thought was a food tasting tour turned out to be a history lesson with food. Some food. We missed the first two stops because the trains were slow, and we weren't allowed to join up with the next tour, but in a 3 hour "food tour" we ate a rice ball, a cookie, a tiny slice of pizza, and some cheese with a slice of bread. I understand that there are other tours that are a bit better, but I cannot honestly recommend this tour to anyone unless they are fans of NYC history. | ||||||

THIS IS WHY WE LOVE NEW YORK!

| A very satisfying tour, that highlighted the uniqueness of many Village shops and restaurants. The tour concentrated on food places that are special to the Village. THIS IS WHY PEOPLE VISIT NEW YORK, AND WHY MANY LOVE TO LIVE THERE -- the wonderfully unique (and in some cases brilliant) aspects of the City, including the special food shops and restaurants that are unique to the Village. It isn't special that a visitor to Manhattan can go to a Subway, a TGIF, an Apple Store and a Bed, Bath & Beyond. Anybody can do that in a thousand different malls all over the USA. But it is special to discover unique shops and restaurants that are operated independently, with care and even love. This tour helped me do that in the Village. Good stuff. Great tour. | ||||||

| This was my second time to NYC. I have done this tour twice now with 2 different groups of people. We all agree that this is our favorite part of the trip. We did go back later and dine at one of the recommended restuarants and it also was a wonderful experience. | ||||||

| We had Heather as our tour guide. She did an incredible job. I was a little unsure about this activity because you just never know what kind of person will be leading you, but she was so friendly and a pleasant personality to be around for three hours. I absolutely loved all the the knowledge that was given about each place and especially the historical landmarks. This tour was very informative while getting to eat great food along the way. This was definitely worth the money, I believe it was a reasonable price for the activity and food. I wish I lived in NY so that I could return to all of those places. The next time I come for a visit, I would like to take another one of your tours in a different area. Then spend a lot of time eating at the places I already visited. I had already been in NY for four days before I took this tour, and I was so disappointed because I just didn't know where to get that NY food experience I've heard so much about. Thank goodness I went on your tour, it left me more than satisfied so that I could happily travel back to Texas with a NY food experience! Thanks Heather for making our Bachelorette Party Weekend such a fun enjoyable time with friends! Good luck with that acting career! | ||||||

| Tour guides are informative, fun, engaging and interactive. The establishments were accomodating, appreciative and had wonderful samples. The 3 hours flew by! The groups were small enough to be able to hear the guide and move from place to place methodically. Really enjoyed it, would take another tour in the future. | ||||||

Choose the Greenwich Village Tour instead

| I took the Greenwich Village tour and loved it, the neighborhood and all the food samples. I could not wait to do this tour and discover a new area. The guide was a female, whose name I cant remember. She spoke very softly for a city that is very loud. Still she knew the area very well. The samples were not as good as the other tour. First we got half an Indian type of potatoe burrito from Indian Bread co which was yummy. Next a sit down tasting of gnocci at Monte's which was great. Then we tried some tiny piece of sweet thing that was the size of your fingernail. After that we went an hour without any food, and we had come hungry as this would be our lunch for $47 a person. Finally we got a 1/4 of a peanut butter sandwich with sliced chicken, and a shot glass size of rootbeer, and shared a child size bag of chips between 6 people... and 4 carrot mini sticks shared. I would go back to PB Co. Then some smoked mozarella slice and a slice of sausage from Joe's Dairy and Pino's meat market, which were not out of the ordinary. Last was granddaisy which was a potatoe bread which was awesome, but we alread had started with Potatoe roll at the Indian bread, and potatoe gnocci. The guide was a little rude to us because we had an infant who was cooing and babbling so she asked us to stay behind the rest of the group, but everyone there told us the baby did not bother them. That aside, I still thought the whole experience on the original tour was so much better planned out, and a nicer neighborhood. I took my family to this one, but wish I had gone back to the original. I would not recommend this particular tour for the price, we could have had a great lunch. | ||||||

| My husband and I really enjoyed this tour. Sam, our guide, gave us a great history lesson while we enjoyed really good food. I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in doing a little something different in New York. The best part was ending the tour at the bar on top of Hotel Ganselvoort. We had 360 degree views of the city while drinking $9 beer. It was so worth it! Request Sam if you can... he was a lot of fun! | ||||||

| This tour was one of the highlights of our week-long visit to NYC. Our guide Rahim was very personable, knowledgeable and enthusiastic (with that NYC edge of course) This was the 3rd tour we have taken with Foods of New York over 2 visits and we found Rahim to be the best guide so far (although Kurt on the Chelsea Market tour was pretty good too) As far as the food was concerned we especially liked the food from Peanut Butter & Co., Pino's Meats and Grandaisy | ||||||

| This was a great tour! We ate our way through Chelsea Market while learning its history. This tour is good all year round, as about 2/3 of the time is spent inside in Chelsea Market. Our guide was Kurt, who was excellent. This is a good tour of this type for older people or people who have trouble walking, as there were more opportunities to sit than with the Greenwich Village tour. | ||||||

| Kurt was our guide. He learned our names right away and knew so much about the Market. Always had the answers to questions and never had to go ask someone else. The food was very good, although a lot of sweets were served. Thank goodness for the Lobster Bisque and the food at the Italian Market... The tour ended on a very timely basis and we had plenty of time to go back in and see more at our leisure. Really would have enjoyed trying a sample from Morimoto's and Mario Batali's Restaraunts. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone (w/o children). | ||||||

Highlight of the Trip

| Funny how our trip, which included helicopter rides and Broadway shows could really be topped by such a wonderful tour. Michael, our guide, was excellent. He was both informative and casual. The food was great but his deep knowledge and appreciation for the Greenwich Village culture was inspiring. The trip involved myself and my two teenage daughters. We *all* enjoyed the tour. And that really says it all. Thanks! | ||||||
