Delicious Information at a Good Value

Very informative. There was a Japanese visitor in the group and even she has learned a great deal which she hadn't known before. Food was delicious and definitely enough.

Highly enjoyable

This is my third Foods of NY experience, and I'm sure that I'll be back for another. The guide, Raheem, is very knowledgeable and engaging throughout the experience. The food was great. My girlfriend and I enjoyed tasting and learning about each dish; although, now we'll be spoiled for the rest of our sushi eating days.

Excellent food experience-no explanation about it

I love Japanese food and I wanted to hear more details about cooking traditions and food origins. Instead we enjoyed the food but didn’t hear anything because the guide was standing far a way from our table. I would recommend using small or big speakers and microphone to achieve what was promised. Even if another people will hear all- it’ll helps the restaurant bring more clients and make live advertisement for tour itself. Me personally – I don’t care that clients will hear that they didn’t pay for.

Good food, excellent history lesson, too
Sat, Dec 1, 07   5:00 PM RichKnight Male 20-29 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
This was a pretty great experience. While I'm not the biggest fan of Japanese cuisine (I went for my girlfriend, mostly), I really dug the history lesson I got on the food. The host was swell, too. If you love Nihon food (tanoshi, desu-ka?), then you'll absolutely LOVE this event. Give it a go, pal.

Beyond Expectation
Sat, Nov 24, 07   5:00 PM eesora1 Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family With Children
This tour was beyond our expectations, not only were we able to savor some of Japan's authentic dishes, but we are so well informed that eating sushi at our local restaurant will never be the same. The one aspect of the tour we would have wanted to see was the sushe preparation. We would have loved to have been able to see how the fish is chosen and cut and how the rolls are made. Except for this minute detailed, which we expressed to our guide, the food was excellent, the service was comparable to the food and the ambiance could not have been better. Our tour guide was exceptional, you could sense how much he enjoys doing his job. The way in which he presented the tour was not from a pre-rehearsed script but a delivery from an extremely knowledgeable person who helps you to savor the food even before you place it in your mouth. We have taken three of the tours already, we have enjoyed and highly recommend each one of them. But this one exceds all others by far.

Stuck with Strangers.
Thu, Oct 11, 07   5:00 PM jungyoon Male 30-39 Local Couple on a Date
Overall everything was excellent. Presentation was great. Food was great with sake & beer pairing. Only problem: Table of 4 when on a date feels like you're obliged to sit with strangers. Then sharing out of same sake sake bottle just feels awkward.

Excellent meal and a great deal

I purchased this activity for my boyfriend's birthday--we are both big sushi fans--and we were both very impressed. Our host Raheem was very friendly and knowledgeable, and the restaurant served some killer sushi. The icing on the cake was the sake. I'm not a huge fan of sake and thus was not too excited about the prospect of drinking it with my meal, but the two sakes served were delicious. I have told other friends about this activity and will most likely go again with some of them. The only downside is the 5:00pm start time--difficult to get there right after work--but I do understand that they have to do it during off-hours. All in all, a very pleasant experience.

This event was awesome. The food was great and we had plenty of it. The host was very knowledgeable about the food and the tradition behind the food. The drinks were great. We had a blast. We will do this tour again and also other tours by this provider. It was well worth the money

AMAZING - the sushi, the information and our host!
Thu, Sep 13, 07   5:00 PM scooterlev Male 30-39 Local Individual
As someone who loves their sushi, eats it all the time (twice a week on average these days...once went 6 months straight eating it daily), and considers himself pretty knowledgable on the whole thing, I was shocked! First I was shocked how amazing the food was - from the first course (which was a huge variety of chicken, beef, squid, etc that was nothing like the 'sushi' I've been used to) straight through to the more familiar raw fish dishes, the tastings were fantastic. I used the word 'tastings' loosely because this was a full meal and then some. And second I was shocked how much I did not know about sushi - from how it originated to why the wasabi and ginger are eaten the way they are, to the precision with which each tasting is prepared. One thing that was unexpected was how friendly our group became - I went solo just because the event sounded so interesting, but by the time I left I had gotten to know several other participants very well. Next time I go I'll be bringing friends, family or a date...it was one of the most unique, enjoyable and informative things I've done around NYC in quite some time. And our host, Raheem, was a star - knew much more than his share about sushi, kept the meal lively and moving, and did a great job catering to what I and the rest of the group thought the whole way. I'll be back!!!
