Food was great but tour guide awful
Sun, Jun 1, 08   12:30 PM longhorn94 Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Group of Friends
Food was great as was information about the history of Greenwich Village. Didn't care for tour guide (Mike). He came off as condescending and though you expected lame jokes, his were particularly lame. At one point, he had the group in a restaurant both indoors and out, and forgot about the group that was still inside. We had to catch up on our own.

My compliments. Another proof that it comes all down to the tour guide. In our case Bob was just the perfect tour guide providing the perfect mix, of history facts, funny stories and good tastings - all with the right attention to detail. Thanks, Bob!

My second time!

I went on the first tour last summer with my nieces, I loved it so much and talked about it so much I purchased tickets for my husband and me. Again, loved the food and the information about old New York. The tour guide was great and knowledgable, but the first tour guide was a "true" New Yorker and enjoyed her jokes and stories more. I think a tour guide from New York is more what tourist are looking for. My husband enjoyed the tour and couldn't compare it with another and he had fun! I would go again when company comes in from out of town but will request a "New Yorker". Worth the money, for sure. Mariann, from PA

40 yrs married couple looking for new adventures

We did the sushi tour with Raheem on Sat May 31st and absolutely loved it! Great presentation by Raheem explaining the history of sushi, methods of prep, ingredients and what makes good sushi. Ate foods I never would have dared try without a guide, many that sounded awful but tasted great. Pacing of talk and eating was just right and made for a full evening of entertainment while leaving time for a grocery shopping trip at Trader Joe's a few blocks away. Experienced high end stuff like REAL wasabi and top shelf Saki. Learned that I DO like saki when it's the good stuff :+}

Fantastic time!

Three female friends toured with our three college-aged daughters and had a fantastic afternoon, despite the downpour! Our tour guide, Michael (Karp?) was extremely interesting and knowledgeable about the Village we couldn't have asked for anyone better! Having grown up in NYC, I learned quite a bit myself. The food was great, and the local shopowners and staff were extremely welcoming. Well worth the money. Three hours went way too fast and all of us agreed we would come again and bring the spouses/boyfriends!

Recommend but not exactly what I expected.

The food and the concept were both good, but I expected a little different type of information and site visitation from the tour guide. There was much more limited information about the prior century's history of residents, notables, residences, events, etc. and more specific information on more recent history and events - say the last 1/2 century and particularly the immediate concerns of Greenwich village residents because of real estate prices and established businesses being forced to close. Although Washington Square was mentioned in passing we didn't go there or learn specifically what events took place there. The tour guide was entertaining and knowledgeable, but my expectations were a little different. I only learned from my Frommer guide that Louisa May Alcott was a resident of 130 Bleecker Street where she may have written Little Women, for example. I enjoyed the visit to the "back house" behind Palma rest. My other suggestion would be to include some non-carb/less fatty food items ( fruits & veggies) even if just as accompaniments to the other dishes. I appreciated the free rain ponchos and water and wasn't expecting to get either one of them, so thank you. Also, I felt the same tour was doable in less than 3 hours.

Don't let rain stop you!

It rained during our tour for about an hour, but we were given plastic raincoats, and we were fine. We kept eating and touring. The tour guide was informative, and the tastings were very good. It is a fun and different kind of tour. We were full from the tastings, but found room to get a mini gelato with the free coupon in our tour book. Enjoy!

A great NYC experience!

I'm a foodie, so my favorite part of travel (which is oftern for work) is dining out and experiencing new resteraunts and dishes. In addition to the being introduced to great places to eat this tour offers an interesting history of the area. When you book the tour, they ask about any dietary restrictions (which I have) and they made special arrangements for me to sample a substitute food on stops where it was an issue. I really appreciated that! I think this tour seemed very intimate due to its size and its obviously great relationship with the resteraunteurs in the area. I would recommend to anyone looking for a great NY experience. I will book another tour when I visit the area gain.

So much more than food!

The tour guide included stops at famous nyc buildings seen on tv as well as stories about the history of the area. I learned a lot more about the Village than I ever expected, in addition to sampling foods from some of the most unique and tasty shops New York City has to offer!

Outstanding guide and introduction to neighborhood
Sat, May 31, 08   12:00 PM vickiak Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Our guide, Raheen (sp?) was extremely knowlegeable about the neighborhood and the food. The best way to be introduced to an area. We learned so much more than about restaurants and food--history, culture, people. Be prepared to do a bit of walking, a good 3 hours plus. We went back to at least 3 places we visited.

We had the best time! In general, I am a big fan of walking tours, which is why this appealed to me. However, I had never been on a food tour before and that aspect was such a treat! Our tour guide was very lively, knowledgeable, and organized. You could tell she was very familiar with the area and knew everyone we came across.

Fantastic Way to See the City

This is the second time I've been on the Greenwich Village tour, and it did not disappoint! It is a great way to get to know the history and (literally) the flavor of a great neighborhood in NYC! I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in history, architecture and eating! Bravo on a job well done!
