We thoroughly enjoyed the Greenwich Village Food Tasting and Cultural Tour this past Saturday Afternoon. Kurt (sp?) was absolutely wonderful...so full of energy and tidbits of information about the village we definitely learned a lot. The food was excellent and we were able to sample foods that we possibly wouldn't have otherwise. We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone.

Awesome

A friend of mine had recommended this trip to me - a week before I arrived in NYC (book early - as spaces are snapped up). I thought it would be good, but it was one of the highlights of our trip to New York. Cindi, our guide, was an absolute marvel. Extremely knowledgable, very friendly and welcoming and overall a funny lady! The food was secondary only to Cindi's narrative. And the food was something else - particularily the croissant from Amy's Bakery. Legendary. So my advice - if you want something to do that's a little off the normal tourist route, whilst at the same time getting excellent entertainment, value for money and, obviously, good food. Book a space - and book it now!! Mike Longden, Cardiff, Wales, UK.

The Chelsea market food tasting tour is definitely worth the time and money. The food samplings were delicious and delightful. Chelsea market is truly a gem full of rich history. --Erika Duran California :)

MUCH FUN AND GOOD FOOD, BUT BE PREPARED TO WALK!!

I very much enjoyed this tour. Not only you get very good food from the best shops in town, but you really get to see many corners of Greenwich that you would never see but yourself. Also, you get a lot of interesting history of all those corners. The only problem is the fact that you don't seat for 3 hours. But even though I was very tired (I had been walking Manhattan for 2 days), I enjoyed this tour.

We loved the tour, the food and all the info about the history and architecture of Greenwich Village. Our guide was totally informed except for one thing - When she talked about rents and apartment prices in the neighborhood, she underestimated, eg, saying you could get an apartment on Cornelia St for $1600...would be better if she gave a more realistic, higher price so that the tourists could really see how expensive it is to live here. Thanks!

My boyfriend and I took this tour as part of a weekend visit to NYC in April 2006. It was WELL worth the cost, the tour guide was amazing and we had a great time. A must do, especially if you like quirky, atypical tourist activities.

Fun and Informative introduction to the Village

Despite the fact that our tour day was cold and rainy, this tour was the highlight of our trip to New York. Our tour Guide (Michael Karp) was fun, charming, very knowledgable, and quite a ham. Understanding the history of the resturants and food we were eating, their impact on the neighborhood, and the neighborhoods impact on the city and the country, made it so much more than just a 'let's try some new foods' adventure. I have always stayed in Midtown when traveling to New York, and this tour has led me to commit to staying below 23rd street going forward. I also plan on signing up for other FoodsofNY.com tours in the future. It's a great introduction and 'jumping off' point to the Village. Whether you like music, food, great shops, or history, there is much for you to do and see in this area. The tour scratches the surface for you and helps you to determine where you really want to go from there. Leave time when you're done to circle back to some of the places you'll visit. There really is enough food to make up for a lunch (though it is spaced out so you never get too full). There was also a stop in a bar, so you have the opportunity to wet your whistle if you'd like. As recommended, dress for the weather. You will be outside about 80% of the time and walking the streets. Our tour went a little longer than the three hours indicated (the guide checked first to see if anyone had pressing commitments) but it was worth the time.

Interesting Tour for Food Junkies

Great tour with some interesting tidbits and delicious food. Kurt was a fantastic tour guide and kept the spirits high. I've been on the Greenwich Village tour as well - this one isn't quite as good, but still worthwhile.

too much talking, not enough eating and touring

I've been on this tour three times, once as a tourist, and twice as a local. The tour guide (i don't recall his name) was a nice man who unfortunately talked way too long, went off into too many side tangents, and lingered too long at places. I saw that many of the ppl in the tour group were politely waiting for him to finish his stories (kinds that he has to mention every name, date, place, and background of every little thing "i.e; "my friend so-and-so who actually knows so and so and one day we went to this-and-that but that's another story for another day, etc etc, but let me get to the point.,,."), and eventually they just stared at the ground, exhausted. Being that i've taken this tour twice, i KNOW how long he should stay and talk about each place. He talked too much and moved much too slow compared to the other tour guides. I found this tour really lagging and he tended to concentrate on a few spots instead spreading out to cover as much ground as possible. This is a tour!! i want my money's worth and that means, go to all the different places, pick up the pace, and NOTICE when your group is bored and overtly quiet--this means they need some revival, not long-winded stories that are not directly related to the tour.

Top 3 Hour Tour!

This was one of the highlights of our trip to New York. It was our second trip to the Big Apple and we only wish that we had done this tour the first time round! At first we were a little unsure as to the duration of 3 hours because we didn't know how they were going to fill the time, however the time flew by and we wished it could have gone on longer! We sampled plenty of food, but be warned if doing the morning tour don't eat a large breakfast before you go - and certainly do not book anywhere for lunch!! The tour wasn't just about tasting food or facts on food, but was a great insight into the village lifestyle and culture past and present. Our tour guide Kurt was FAB, he was very funny, witty and informative. He had a vast knowledge of the area and it's history and was well versed on what restaurants to dine at as well as which to avoid! The tour group was just the right size so there was no worry of being right at the back of the crowd unable to hear. One tip we would give is to do the food tour at the beginning of your stay. We did ours on the second from last night and so were only able to visit one of the many restaurants so well conveyed to us by Kurt on the last night. Infact just as we sat down to our meal we met another group from our tour that had also booked a table! Overall this is an excellent value for money and very informative tour, which leaves a wonderful taste for wanting to do more!!

Really enjoyed the tour, the guide was enthusiastic and passionate about food, and it showed. Very interesting all round, particularly the history of the area, a nice combination of eating, walking and learning all at the same time. thank you
