Great way to spend the afternoon in NYC

My mom and I went on the tour (our second one with Foods of NY) and loved it. Annie, our guide, was very friendly and full of information. Was a little worried the food on the NoLita tour wouldn't be to our taste but couldn't be more wrong. The pizza at Emporio was the best either of us ever had. Tacos, Cuban sandwich, cupcakes--equally delicious. Foods of NY really know which restaurants are different and special. All the staff at each restaurant were very friendly and welcoming. Only complaint was that at the last stop (I forget the name) we heard about so many great desserts (homemade Oreos) but just tried the graham crackers. Although good, I would have rathered something a little different. Overall, awesome day, awesome food, great restaurants, and great tour guide. Would recommend to anyone over the age of 17-18. Also, be sure you are able to walk for a solid 2 hours or so!

Bert was great!

This tour was great! It was a great combo of food, culture and history. We very much liked the dim sum at the first spot and I thought the peking duck at the Pecking Duck House was the best I've ever had and can't wait to take my husband back with me! Where I really liked the first 2 stops/tastings I didn't really enjoy the last one. The eggplant dish was okay kinda of mushy and I really didn't like the rice as it was too fishy for my taste. Bert was a great tour guide! He was full of knowledge about the areas and great recommendations and he really got the group involved and kept us all entertained. I would love to take another food tour led by him. One thing I didn't really like was that prior to going on this tour I read on the website that there were 5 tastings 3 seated and 2 'on-the-go' and it mentioned something about eating a 'tiger roll'. We only ha 3 tastings so I was confused when the your ended at the 3rd place cause I thought there were more stops. It would have been nice to end the tour with something sweet. Although I did end up going to the Chinatown Ice Cream factory that Bert recommended!

Excellent guide, very knowledgeable, learnt lots about the neighbourhood and the restaurants there. Food was good and eye opening, would not have gone to those restaurants if not for the tour.

If you have $50 bucks lying around, 3 hours to kill, and you're in NYC, GO ON THIS TOUR! The food is amazing, the knowledge dispensed is interesting, and you get to really know a small swath of NYC in a short few hours. If you get a chance, ask for Bert- really smart guy that clearly loves the neighborhood and food it offers in a genuine, not-just-a-paycheck kinda way.

Comedy, food, and history -- plus exercise!

We had a stand-up comedian for a tour-guide so he really made the whole experience a joyous laugh the entire way. We ate our way through delish food, the walking was kept at a moderate level (much appreciated on a supremely hot day), and learned a lot about the local neighborhood. A great way to combine humor, food, history, and even a little bit of exercise - highly recommend!

Thoroughly recommend W Village Food Tour

My mother and I joined the West Village food tour put on by Foods of NY Tours. I'm a local to the W Village and can testify that most if not all of the restaurants we sampled from were great representations of the neighborhood culture. Our tour guide walked us around the neighborhood and talked about the culture, music, theater, architecture, urban legends and, of course, culinary history. Highly recommend this tour, and can't wait to try Foods of NY's other tours, especially Chinatown and Chelsea Market.

My roommate and I had a great time. We live so close to all these places and learned so much we didn't know. There are a lot of hidden gems we loved learning about.

It was a really enjoyable afternoon. The food was delicious and the tour guide (susan) really made it for us. She was friendly, local, knowledgable, and approachable. The tour really gave context to our visit in the city and made us realise what we were looking at and how it has changed over the years. Perfect amount of food for me. My least favourite place was actually Monte's which is where we started the tour and where we had spaghett bolognese - bit too salty for my taste and the environment felt dark, empty and lifeless. I would have liked to go inside more places than stand out on the pavement but I realise that it's not always practical. My favourite place was probably the Cuban place because I was introduced to foods that I hadn't tried before. Also the Indian wrap shop, for a similar reason. Would have been good to have a spicy sauce to go with it if we wanted a more fiery experience. Thanks Susan! Memorable and recommendable!

I took my father on a food tour of Greenwich Village for his birthday. He and I both had a blast. I live in New York, but I went to places I would never go normally. In addition to the amazing food we tasted, our tour guide gave us an extensive (but not boring!) cultural and historical background on the neighborhood. It was fascinating and interspersed throughout the tour, so we alternated between eating and learning. 3 jam packed hours of fun! Careyanne was our tour guide and she was so knowledgeable and friendly. Loved her and the tour! Great price and great fun.

Food was really good, but tour was even better. Getting to see the neighborhood with a guide that is so familiar with the area was really a great experience.

We had a fabulous time with our very informed, enthusiastic, funny guide Bert. He was patient with one and all including with the family with the children. We will take another tour with him if possible.

This was an absolutely amazing way to spend part of a day in NYC. This was our second trip to New York and after reading some reviews we were very excited to take part in the food tour and we weren't disappointed! Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable of the area and provided little interesting tidbits throughout the tour and moved us along at a good pace- our group had 7 participants which was great- I think with a larger group it may have been harder to catch everything. The establishments we visited were enthusiastic to see us and to answer our questions. In the tour booklet they also provided coupons so you could go back and explore a bit more 'in depth'. And the food! So good and such a variety!! One of our favorite stops ended up being O & Co who had the most amazing basil olive oil- unfortunately they don't shop internationally so we will have to ration the bottle we purchased. I found the serving sizes/amounts added up to be lunch-like in portion though my husband commented that he was glad he had a bigger breakfast prior to the tour. A few suggestions to maximize the fabulousness of the tour would be to leave yourself some time at the end of the tour to explore- there were a bunch of really interesting shops that I wish we could have had more time to check out. We also found that we wished we would have gone on the tour earlier in our trip so we would have had the opportunity to return to 1 or 2 of the places for a meal. Overall an amazing experience! We will definitely be participating in a Foods of New York Tour next time we visit- and will be telling all of our friends about it too!

Delicious Food and Wonderful Guide!
Mon, Apr 23, 12   11:00 AM Valeriestd Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I went on this tour with 2 other girls to celebrate our 26th birthdays. It was the perfect way to celebrate - with delicious foods from the basics to gourmet (and we were perfectly satisfied with the portions - no need for breakfast or lunch that day). Our tour guide, Sephrah, was the best! She gave us a great tour filled with loads of history of the area and NYC with interesting facts - all this with an enthusiastic upbeat personality that made everyone on the tour smile and have a fabulous time! I highly recommend this tour for everyone visiting NYC!
