An insiders view of Greenwich Village.
Mon, Aug 11, 08   11:00 AM Stuman348 Female 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
In spite of the downpour, our group leader was upbeat and enthusiastic. You could tell she enjoyed what she was doing. We learned a great deal about the history of Greenwich Village. We also got a sampling of the variety of ethnic foods represented in the Village. I would recommend this as an "outsiders" way to learn what the "insiders" already know.

Sefra was outstanding. I recommend her highly as she really connected with us and made the experience a highlight for my two teenagers.

Having done the Greenwich village tour on our last visit we had no hesitation booking a further tour to give us a more indepth insight of a part of NYC which we may never have visited alone. Cindy our tour guide was fantastic, very enthusiastic and very knowledgeable. The group size is just right and its great to get to meet people not only from different countries but fairly local people who come along as well. All the food tastings were delicious and its adequate to act as your lunch but if you are left feeling you need more then Chelsea market is the place to be, it will satisfy any palate (and stomach size!). All in all I would highly this tour and will definately be booking another when we next visit. Thank you Foods of New York!

From start to finish this was a fantastic tour. Kurt our tour guide was brilliant, really informative and friendly and made a great effort to remember everyones name, which amazingly enough he nearly almost did. We learnt a lot about the area and had some really fantastic food. I could not recommend this tour highly enough and when we next visit New York we will certainly take in another tour.

The Greenwich Village Tour was fantastic on three levels. The food was great with samples of traditional American fare along with more sophisticated cuisine. The range of restaurants and providors visited also gave a wonderful insight into the food culture of this iconic New York district. Faicco's, Murray's Cheese Shop, Joe's Pizza and Milk and Cookies Bakery some of the best. The only disappointment was O & Co Meditteranean Food Merchant. Whilst their produce was fine their choice to only sell imported oils and condiments was an example of food snobbery that didn't exist in any of the other establishments. Outside of this there was a real and welcome return to traditional fare using quality ingredients (the Mac and Cheese served at Home restaurant a perfect example). The cultural and historical aspect of the tour was also excellent. We were able to get a real insight into this iconic neighborhood getting a feel for not only it's history but also it's residents past and present. Such a tour gives you an opportunity to go much deeper than the usual tourist fare, it enables you to develop an understanding of how people live on a daily basis in New York. This is an opportunity that doesn't come visiting the "usual tourism suspects". Finally the absolute highlight of the tour was our tour guide, Zaffra. Her culinary knowledge was excellent as was her knowledge of the history, people and culture that make up Greenwich Village. Above all that though was her wonderful sense of humor. Zaffra kept our whole tour group entertained throughout the entire three hours (in fact the three hours passed so quickly it was hard to believe that was the length of the tour). I know there are a lot of tour guides but if you get a chance ask if Zaffra is guiding a tour, you will be far from disappointed. In conclusion I would highly recommend that you not only take this tour but that you take it early in your trip to New York. If you take it early it will give you an opportunity to go back and eat at some of the restaurants you visit during the tour. Whatever you do though just be sure to take the tour.

Greenwich Village Food Tour--tasty and satisfying.

Forty dollars won't buy you much in New York City, but the Greenwich Village Food Tour delivers a big bang for your buck. Armed with Fodor's Guide to NYC and the AAA guidebook, I have conducted self-guided tours through the village several times. However, thanks to a very knowledgeable and pleasant guide ( I wish I could remember the young ladie's name--however, she is a career counselor at NYU and I highly recommend her!!), I left the village with a full tummy and more literary, geographic, and gastronomic knowledge of that area than I ever obtained on my own. Three hours flew by --we made stops at numerous stores and restaurants and were treated with 3 desserts, samples from 2 different pizza places, a rice ball, deep fried portebella mushrooms, fresh bread, fresh cheese, and freshly made sausage. More importantly, I have a list of food stores and restaurants that I want to return to at a later date. Last year I went on the Chelsea Market tour that was gastronomically satisfying, but what made this tour wothy of five stars was the guide!! I have recommended these tours to all my friends, and I look forward to returning to NYC and taking the SoHo tour. SS

This is the second time I have taken this tour and I enjoyed it even more than the first time. I love all the food tasting but my favorite is the Historic Dist. you would not even think you were in NYC. The guides were both excellent. I highly recommend this tour to anyone .

I was on the tour with my sister, we both really enjoyed it. I am from New Jersey and I have never been to any of these restaurants or places in the Village. Our tour guide was great, she was very friendly, and knowledgeable. We enjoyed the entire 3 hours tremendously and I intend to take other friends on the same tour in the near future.

Great Way to Maximise Limited Time in NYNY

This was the second time I've done this tour and I enjoyed it as much as the first time. Our guide, Susan, was professional and highly knowledgeable. The food was good (except for the cookies from Milk and Cookies, which were OUTSTANDING!), but the real value for us was in learning about this interesting and storied corner of NY.

PERFECT

The food, the history, the architecture, the anecdotes were so much better than I expected. I recommend it to anyone who will listen. I would have liked to stay in the West Village for dinner, but ate too much on tour, So next time I'm in NYC, I'll plan an evening there. Our guide, Barri was excellent...friendly and knowledgeable. Met fun people from England and Australia.
