I was born in NYC but learned a great deal from your 3 hour walking tour of SOHO. This was the third food and culture tour we experienced with your company and each one was terrific. Our guides were all extremely knowledgeable and provided interesting presentations at all of our stops. The food sampling was delicious and we hope to return to the shops/restaurants one day. An extra bonus was meeting delightful people on our tour from many different countries.

This was a fantastic tour that I would highly recommend to anyone spending some time in New York. Our tour guide was hilarious, the food was delicious, and it was a great way to get to know a neighborhood that we might otherwise have missed out on. It's worth the money and time! :)

Whether you are interested in Food, Culture or history of the neighborhood, this tour had it all. I would recommend Foods of New York tours to anyone I know that visits NYC. It was well organized, informative and just a lot of fun. Also, the food we were served was delicious and fresh out of the oven. I look forward to trying their other Food tours of China town and Chelsea market.

What a wonderful opportunity to hear the history and savour the tastes of the Chelsea Market. This "hot " area is home to top restaurants and top designers and a has a fun feature in the High Line Park. Bob Gelber lead our group and was an outstanding guide. He knows the area intimately and knows the merchants personally. He was patient and humourous. This was a highlight of our New York weekend and we would highly recommend the experience.

Food for Thought

Our group of nine consisted of three former New Yorkers, two Brits and visitors from Kentucky, Michigan and Massachusetts. All LOVED this tour. Our tour day was rainy and cool but nothing dampened our experience. We learned about the Village and ate our way from pizza to cookies and from a subtle cauliflower appetizer to faux BBQ'd pork at a Japanese vegetarian restaurant (and yes, you read that correctly). We learned about early Village history and it's modern development; about Washington Irving and Edna St. Vincent Millay; about Cherry Lane Theatre and basement jazz on Cornelia St. Dave, our guide was great. It is hard to please all of the people all of the time but Dave did this for more than three hours of fabulous fare and fun - even the jaded former New Yorkers were dazzled by what had been in their backyard, missed till now.

This tour was a nice intro to Greenwich Village, a gem neighborhood of NYC that's full of quaint and delicious restaurants, specialty shops, theaters and cool places to live. Our guide was friendly and informed, dropping in enough history and current culture to make the midday trek through the Village continually interesting. Plus, the " food tastings" were great!

More than just food

Whilst the food that we tasted on this tour was very good, I particularly enjoyed learning about the history and culture of the area as we walked its streets. We did the tour early in our time in New York and I feel that this understanding enriched our stay. Our guide was knowledgeable and approachable and the pace seemed to suit the group very well. There was a good variety of cuisine styles offered as we walked and although quantities were small to moderate at each venue, no-one in our group of friends needed dinner that night!

Take the tour only if you enjoy food tasting

Overall, I had a good time on the Greenwich Village Food Tasting and Cultural Tour and the tour guide was very comical. I really enjoyed tasting the various foods on the tour (some food tasting stops were better than others though) and the tour did a great job of accomodating a vegetarian diet. If you enjoy food tasting and plan on revisiting the Greenwich Village area during your trip, then this is a really good tour to take because the tour guide gives you restaurant recommendations. However, if you are taking the tour to learn about the culture/history of Greenwich Village, then I would recommend taking another tour because I didn't learn very much about the area. Although this is a 3 hour tour, a lot of the time is spent waiting for the tour guide to go into the restaurant and bring out the food to the group. Also, I was hoping to explore more of the Greenwich Village area, but you basically stay on the same street during the tour. I think this tour is overpriced for what it is.

A Great Food Tour Experience

Our guide, Kurt, met us right on time at the Chelsea Market--he made a real effort to remember and use all of our first names--and was amazingly successful. He really knew the area and told us many interesting things about it. He was very knowledgeable about all the establishments we visited (and there were quite a few), and made sure we all were enjoying ourselves, learning about the Market and meat packing district, and along the way eating lots of delicious food. When we met, it was raining and he said how lucky we were to have chosen this tour as the Market part was all inside--but he promised that by the time we came to the meat packing part, during which we walked outside, the sun would be shining and it would be a beautiful day--and he was right! We also visited several restaurants in the area which was great because we plan to visit Chelsea when next we're in NYC and now we know some good places to eat. Altogether a delightful day. We can't recommend the tour highly enough.
