This was my second Chelsea Market Food Tour - Diane was our tour leader this year and she was terrific - knowledgeable and entertaining.
The tour is well organized and so informative, not to mention delicious! Very fun sampling the offerings from the best vendors. |

On my last visit to NYC I decided to try one of the food tours. I woke up to a Noreaster that was plaguing NYC but as the tour was set to run rain or shine I headed out prepeared for the weather and what Ithought may not turn out to be a great day. Boy, was I wrong!! Our wonderful guide Susan met us at Cafe Del Mare and we started our trek. The food was not only delicious and interesting to learn about but Susan provided so much knowledge of the neighborhood and the culture of the region. She is an excellent guide. I cannot wait for my next trip to the city to try one of your other food tours. Since my return to NH I have raved about this tour and highly recommend it to friends who may be visiting the city. Thank you
Jane from NH |

I had went on the original Greenwich tour on a previous NY visit and had my eye on this tour. Was a bit hesitant after reading old comments but when I went back to the website closer to our departure date, I noticed they made more improvements on this tour, based upon feedback, and booked this right away.
I was travelling with my sister and sister-in-laws and we all loved this tour.
Portions were large and the food was great.
We had a great variety from the Indian wrap, pasta, ricotta cheesecake (mmmmm), empanadas, tortellini, smoked mozarella, black pepper sausage and the walnut tarte.
Susan kept us at a good pace and entertained us with her knowledge of the Village.
I was glad she mentioned Peanut Butter & Company; even though the tour does not go there anymore, it is a funky place so typical of NY that it can have a whole restaurant themed around one food item.
I really want to try the dim sum tour next visit. How about having a Harlem soul food tour? |

This is a fun way to get to know about the area. The walking is not too strenuous; there's lots of stopping along the way for some really great food. We saw lots of small out of the way places that we'd like to go back to. Definitely would do this again. |

We had four days in NYC and this tour had been recommended to us. MAKE SURE YOU DO IT even if it means you miss some of the other more traditional sightseeing. Walking around Greenwich Village will give you a sense of the real New York and the restaurants that real New Yorkers rate.
We tasted some fantastic food, met some of the chefs and laughed all the way round with our tour guide who had a great sense of humour. Our tour guide was Sephra (a trained pastry chef) so was more food focused that history and acrhitecture but that suited us fine! |

Overall, I had a good time on the Greenwich Village Food Tasting and Cultural Tour and the tour guide was very comical. I really enjoyed tasting the various foods on the tour (some food tasting stops were better than others though) and the tour did a great job of accomodating a vegetarian diet. If you enjoy food tasting and plan on revisiting the Greenwich Village area during your trip, then this is a really good tour to take because the tour guide gives you restaurant recommendations.
However, if you are taking the tour to learn about the culture/history of Greenwich Village, then I would recommend taking another tour because I didn't learn very much about the area. Although this is a 3 hour tour, a lot of the time is spent waiting for the tour guide to go into the restaurant and bring out the food to the group. Also, I was hoping to explore more of the Greenwich Village area, but you basically stay on the same street during the tour.
I think this tour is overpriced for what it is. |

Our guide, Kurt, met us right on time at the Chelsea Market--he made a real effort to remember and use all of our first names--and was amazingly successful. He really knew the area and told us many interesting things about it. He was very knowledgeable about all the establishments we visited (and there were quite a few), and made sure we all were enjoying ourselves, learning about the Market and meat packing district, and along the way eating lots of delicious food. When we met, it was raining and he said how lucky we were to have chosen this tour as the Market part was all inside--but he promised that by the time we came to the meat packing part, during which we walked outside, the sun would be shining and it would be a beautiful day--and he was right! We also visited several restaurants in the area which was great because we plan to visit Chelsea when next we're in NYC and now we know some good places to eat. Altogether a delightful day. We can't recommend the tour highly enough. |
