Visiting the Village... take the tour first thing
Thu, Jun 17, 10   12:30 PM whitmanrf Male 40-49 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
The Greenwich Village food tour was one of the highlights of our trip to New York. This is a great way to get to know the Village before you head out on your own. On this tour you'll sample excellent food from among the authentic, local places in Greenwich Village and Soho, and learn something about the diverse and colorful history of the Village and NYC. The tour guide, and the restaurateurs and proprietors of the places we visited, are engaging and friendly; and the food items we sampled were always excellent, interesting and delicious. Every stop on this tour was a "highlight"; but let me call out a couple: Joe's Dairy, with delicious, creamy smoked mozzarella and intense, savory sun-dried tomatoes. Once Upon a Tart, right across the street, with tasty and expressively French-inspired fruit desserts on a delicate tart crust. Montes Italian restaurant, where we sampled pasta with a bolognese sauce that will reset your expectations forever of what southern-Italian-style red meat sauce can be. Thanks, I hope to take this tour again. On the next trip to NY we plan to go back to many of these places, and really explore the menu for lunch and dinner.

On 2/19/07, the three of us bundled up and headed out of our hotel lobby to a 13 degree start . We were enthusiastically hoping that the walking tour of Greenwich Village would keep us warm . We arrived a half an hour early and decided that a cuo of HOT anything would keep us warm. Promptly at 10:45 Cindy , our tour guide arrived. From this point on , we did not worry about the weather . Cindy was excellent. One could immediately surmise that she loved the city, the people and the history of the area . We would highly recommend this tour and are planning to take another tour next year during our annual visit ( even in 14 degree weather !!)

Our guide Bob did a fantastic job showing us around Chelsea Market and the Meat Packing District. Sprinkling the locations with history and local fare he made the very crowded (at the time) stops enjoyable and keep the group engaged. The food samples were fantastic and spread well throughout the event. Only complaint was the 2nd to last stop with the pasta undercooked and could of used a little larger portion. Overall I recommend this tour to locals and travellers alike.

One of those rare touring experiences that will leave you wanting to stop strangers on the street to tell them not to miss the opportunity to experience Greenwich Village through the eyes of someone who loves and admires her and knows her inside and out.

This is our second time doing a Foods of New York tour (we did Greenwich Village previously). Its a great way to start a visit to NYC as the guides give you a lot of information regarding not only the food scene, but are also very well informed on the history and what is currently going on not only in the area you are touring but elsewhere in the city, Plus they are very entertaining and the food is great!

The tour was great, our guide Susan was friendly and very knowledgable. The food was fabulous. We had quite a range of ages to satisfy from an 11 year old girl, a 14 year old boy to over-60 females. Everyone was satisfied and had a great time. Definitely learned a lot and can't wait to come back on our own to eat at some of the establishments we were introduced to on the tour.

A highlight of my many frequent trips to New York

Myself, my husband and my 2 boys (ages 19 and 23) thoroughly enjoyed the food tour of Greenwich Village. The food was DELICIOUS, and each establishment was very interesting to visit. We also loved seeing and learning about the architecture and the history of the area. Barri, our guide, was warm, friendly, engaging and full of all kinds of interesting information. We have recommended this tour to friends in the New York area and in Toronto (where we live). As well, when we return to NYC, we will be sure to visit some of the places that we saw on the tour. It was great to see the little "nooks and crannies" of the Village that we would NEVER access on our own. GREAT JOB!!

My husband and I had a great time on the food tour of Greenwich Village. Not only did we sample great foods, we also learned so much about the architecture, history, and culture of the neighborhood. We even went back the next day to buy some goodies and eat in one of the restaurants!

We really enjoyed our tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and had many stories to tell. Loved hearing about the community and the way it pulls together to support the local businesses. The food tastings were good. The only problem was finding out about many restaurants that we wanted to have a meal at and only having one day left in NYC!

Liked Heather, she is great! but the tour itself is not that great~~~ too much advertising for restaurants. The food was good, especially the pizza :) A stop at an ice cream place would be great in the hot summer !
