Our leader Curt was not only knowledgeable about the food but also about the area. I would suggest this activity to anyone who loves food and history. He was highly entertaining as well.

Great Tour!!!

This is the second time I have done this tour and I thoroughly enjoyed both times. Both tours were with friends who appreciate good food and were interested in a taste of Greenwich Village. Our guide was very funny and entertained the group with stories while still enlightening us with details about the food and some history of the area. It's a great way to get restaurant recommendations. We returned to Palma the next night and had a fabulous meal in the garden, plus we purchased items at several of the shops we visited on the tour.

We had a fabulous time with our group and the tour guide Susan, who gave us a very informative tour through the Village! All the different foods we got to taste were special and very delicious. We would highly recommend this tour to everyone!

What a fantastic tour!

The only thing that could have made this tour better is if it was 30 degrees warmer! Our tour guide, Curt, was phenomenal - funny, personable, knowledgable and considerate. The tour was well paced and the food awesome. We particularly enjoyed hearing about the history of the area, both the restaurants and shops while trying the delicious foods. My only regret is that we took the tour on our last day - there were many places we are going back to next year. On a side note - I have "bad' feet and found this tour very managable - there were opportunities to sit down a couple times so don't think that you will be on your feet for the full three hours. I would hate for someone to pass up this opportunity. The tour also attracted a really nice group of people. I don't think I've ever toured with a more polite and friendly group. I won't take this tour again next year - only because I am already looking forward to taking a different tour. Enjoy! And, Curt, I'll be looking for you on TV one of these days - keep them laughing! Oh, So Delicious!

The recipe for the perfect Food & Culture Tour: Begin with an enthusiastic, knowledgeable guide who seems to enjoy her work, throw in some people from all over the world, add a touch of diverse and very special ingredients from some wonderful shops and restaurants in Chelsea Market and taste each one before adding to the mix, allow time for a break to enjoy the High Line and its history, and then walk to experience the icing on the cake--a grand Italian Restaurant for a sit down tasting of homemade pasta. It doesn't get much better than this. Oh, and I forgot to add that our guide, Cindy, gave us much more than food; she gave us the history of the Chelsea Market and the Meatpacking district--so important in a city like New York where change is a way of life and the rebirth of neighborhoods so fascinating. I couldn't ask for more--well, yes I could--I could ask for reservations for other Foods of NY Tours. And that is exactly what I and my companions intend to do. I might add that I am hearing impaired and Cindy went out of her way to make sure I was near enough to hear everything she had to say. She was super, and so was the tour.

Entertaining, informative & relaxing

Our guide, Curt Upton, was so warm and inviting. Not only was he very knowledgeable about the Greenwich Village area, he shared that knowledge with our group in a way that was entertaining, informative and relaxing. My group was astonished at the wide variety of foods and the "behind the scene" shop areas that we were privy to. We felt as if we had finally seen the "real" NY. I highly recommend the "Food and Cultural" tour (in any area) as a way to get to know the city, beyond the usual tourist attractions. The tour is definitely worth the time and money.

This was a great thing to do in NYC. Our guide was excellent--very knowledgeable and personable. We went to various restaurants and a couple of shops. The food we had was delicious. The tour was 3 hours, and the pace was just right. I was pleased with the information the guide gave about the area (history and miscellaneous info). We were introduced to restaurants and shops we might otherwise have passed by. I highly recommend this tour (Greenwich Village/SoHo).

Anny our guide loves what she does and it shows.

We did the Chelsea and Greenwich tours before, and liked this one even better. Anny our guide loves what she does and it shows. She was fun, knowledgable, and shared many stories about the neighborhood and it's colorful history. We went into these little store fronts, which many times opened into these amazing spaces, I think Anny called the style Industrial-Chic, very cool indeed. Then there is the food! We started at Little Cupcake Bake Shop and had a great mini blackout cupcake. Then to Emporio where we watched them make our delicious pizza. Next Tartinery Nolita served French tartines and wine. Mexican Corn Esquites at Tacombi was fun. The Smile had Amy's bread with creamy homemade ricotta. We ended our tour with wonderful chocolate at Bond St. Chocolate. We have a whole new appreciation for this area of the city.

Chelsea Meatpacking food tour w/ Daryl was amazing
Sun, Sep 29, 13   10:30 AM welshenbaugh Male 50-59 Domestic Tourist(s) Couple on a Date
We just did the Chelsea Meatpacking food tour with Daryl and it was amazing. He knew everyone's name and never lost anyone in our fairly large group. He was knowledgeable and funny. The market is amazing and the places he took us to were outstanding. He even talked his way into a couple of bonus sample places. Then we walked a portion of the High Line which was awesome, we went back and walked the whole thing after the tour. We ended up in the Meatpacking district which is where the tour ended. We took the Greenwich tour last year and it was very good. We would highly recommend this one.

A nice menu, if a little heavy on cheese & bread
Sun, Sep 23, 07   11:30 AM wellred Female 50-59 Local Group of Friends
Our tour guide was well-informed in regard to both the eating establishments and historical stops that we visited in the West Village. She also did an excellent job of establishing the context for tasting certain cuisines -- for example, the Italian immigration wave that established itself in the 1880s. And even though we're locals, we learned some nifty new places to eat and fascinating data about famous and not-so-famous people, places and things. Just be prepared that the tasting menu is heavy on flour and dairy, scarce on protein, and doesn't follow a soup-to-nuts pattern. In one stretch, we went from cheese balls to chocolate chip cookies to pizza to bread, cheese, olives and soppresata (the only meat) to cannoli dessert pastries. All in all, I'd give this a pretty high recommendation, particularly for laid-back tourists that are age 50-plus. Our friend from Seattle was the reason we took this tour and as a school cook and first-time visitor to NYC, she loved it.

Some highlights/some disappointments
Sun, Jul 19, 09   11:00 AM wellness Female 40-49 International Tourist(s) Group of Friends
I enjoyed the tour but found that the guide focused too much on the restaurants/shops and how much they cost etc. - it almost seemed that they were more concerned with future business for the participating companies than the current tour. I would have skipped a few of the stops (e.g. 2nd pizza) - focus on a few with an opportunity to sit down and enjoy the experience rather than rush through them all. I really appreciated the opportunity to hear about the history, iconic buildings and characteristics of the neighbourhood.
