AMAZING - the sushi, the information and our host!

As someone who loves their sushi, eats it all the time (twice a week on average these days...once went 6 months straight eating it daily), and considers himself pretty knowledgable on the whole thing, I was shocked! First I was shocked how amazing the food was - from the first course (which was a huge variety of chicken, beef, squid, etc that was nothing like the 'sushi' I've been used to) straight through to the more familiar raw fish dishes, the tastings were fantastic. I used the word 'tastings' loosely because this was a full meal and then some. And second I was shocked how much I did not know about sushi - from how it originated to why the wasabi and ginger are eaten the way they are, to the precision with which each tasting is prepared. One thing that was unexpected was how friendly our group became - I went solo just because the event sounded so interesting, but by the time I left I had gotten to know several other participants very well. Next time I go I'll be bringing friends, family or a date...it was one of the most unique, enjoyable and informative things I've done around NYC in quite some time. And our host, Raheem, was a star - knew much more than his share about sushi, kept the meal lively and moving, and did a great job catering to what I and the rest of the group thought the whole way. I'll be back!!! |

Congrats and thanks to Curt for a wonderful experience. Made us proud to be New Yorkers. The tastings were great, the range very interesting, and putting the food in context to the locality and the developments made it interesting and special. The guide has the most important role in these situations, and Curt made this a really enjoyable, fun and interesting experience.

Tour guide was a wealth of information, having lived in the village for 20+ years; restaurant stops concentrated on a very confined area...would have appreciated more walks on a wider perimeter to have a better breadth of the village space. We now have a better feel for the better restaurants within Greenwich Village. |

It was wonderful. Tour guide was so enthusiastic and funny. She definitely added to the enjoyment of the tour. The tour was very interesting and delicious. Not just a food tour. I learned alot about the Village and its history. It was great. |

A wonderful experience! Our tour guide, Barri, was very knowledgeable about the area. She gave us lots of history and interesting facts about Greenwich Village.
The food was great!!! We also had incredible weather which also helped as this was a walking tour.
FYI: The area walked was flat and easily done by all ages.
We would highly recommend this to visitors. Greenwich Village is also very reachable by subway. |

For a food tour I was expecting more food samples. However the tour of the village was informative and enjoyable. |

An entertainment - Our leader was lively and enthusiastic but we feel oversold some of the attractions of the eateries. On his advice we visited one of the restaurants he described as one of the best in New York and it fell a long way short. Neverthless we enjoyed the walk and learned quite a lot about the Village and its history. We would take one of these walks again but also take with us a pinch of salt. |

I was in NYC for a weekend trip, and the Greenwich Village Tour was one of the highlights of my visit (the other being the Transit Museum in Brooklyn).
I'm happy I had read about this tour in the NY Times two weeks earlier and even happier that I was able to reserve a space, as many of the tours were already full.
Cindy was full of knowledge, enthusiasm, and energy. I can't imagine being able to remember all those facts and tidbits that she shared with us. For example, there was the 9.5-foot narrow house, but I've already forgotten why it's so narrow. And at the end of the tour, we enjoyed a cheese and olive tray from Murray's and bread from Amy's while she darted across the street to get us cannoli from Rocco's.
I was also entertained by Cindy's antics like standing in front of traffic so we could cross the street (I asked her who would lead the group if she were run over, but I don't remember what she said).
I enjoyed all of the tastings - my favorites were the rice ball from Faicco's and the chocolate cookie from Milk and Cookies.
My only regret is that I didn't have time after the tour to explore Greenwich Village some more, as I had to rush off to LaGuardia... and reality.
Cindy, if you're reading this, keep up the good work and I hope to have you as a guide on another tour sometime (whenever I'm back in NYC)! |

An alternative insight

We really enjoyed the tour, it was an insight into the history of New York but with a twist. Along with information on the areas development, its inhabitants and the all time favourite topic 'real estate values' the blend of history with cuisine somehow make it more personal.
We went back to Greenwich Village on our last night and enjoyed a lovely meal in one of your recommended restaurants. A perfect end to our trip. |

Cannot rave enough about this tour. If you are planning a tourist visit to NY, take this tour FIRST. You'll then have enough great choices of places to go eat for your entire visit.
This is not just about a food tasting. You can read specifics about that in other reviews.
It is also a very interesting and informative cultural/history tour of the area.
My wife and I are both over 60 years old, we have slowed down a bit in the last 20 years, but the walking was not strenuous, although the day was hot and humid.
Our guide, Raheem, was terrific. (This seems to be the ongoing message in almost every review I read). If all the other guides are as good as he, this is a "cannot miss".

i was totally impressed with the tour and with our tour guide who provided not only a decent supply of interesting items to eat, but gave a great historic overview of the Market and the surrounding area. Two thumbs up from a regular NYC visitor. |

I invited my parents on my second tour Chelsea Mkt / Meatpacking Dist Food Tasting. The tour guide whose name escapes me right now was very knowledgeable with the history of area. I love history so it's was more to my liking then my parents. The food was great. |
