This is a great way to learn your away around Greenwich Village, and taste a few treats along the way. Our tour guide was superb and full of great historical information. A great tour which I highly recommend. We'll be trying the Meat Packing District next!

Enthusiastic guide, good food, spotty history

This was an interesting tour of the food of Grenwich Village. We left with a written description and map of over 30 restaurants and other food shops in the Village. The tour guide was intimately familiar with the Village and did a great job accomodating my husband, who cannot eat milk products, and a 9-month pregnant woman on the tour. The most interesting stop was an old speakeasy called Chumleys. The tour included lots of desserts, pizza, cheese and olives, and kabobs. We were still a little hungry at the end of the tour. The guide explained a bit about some of the architecture seen and briefly delved into the history of the Village. My only suggestion is to organize the tour either by geography, meal courses, or history. We seemed to jump around a lot.

Up and Coming Area

Two thirds of this tour is spent in the Chelsea Market, making it less varied than the Greenwich Village tour, but still interesting in its own right. The meat packing district is sure to undergo many more changes in the near future which will further enhance the tour.

It was such and enjoyable tour. Our guide Mike was very knowledge and enthusiastic. It was such a pleasure to see someone so passionate about the area and the food. Not only do you get to sample a variety of foods but the history of the buildings and Greenwich Village was so interesting. Visiting Chumleys was such a bonus!!! We will definitely be spending more time in the Village after this tour. There are so many different restaurants to visit!!

Excellent tour of Greenwich Village--great food stops with an excellent commentary on the history of the area. Our tour guide, Mike, was incredible !!! Mike was knowledgable, knew the area and the people and made the tour one of the best that we've been on in a long time....well worth the money !!!

Loved learning about the Village

As some of our fellow tour members said, "we could keep on going all day with this tour". Mike made it all so interesting, what a story teller!! He has so much local knowledge that the Village really came alive, and in a way you would never know it by just walking around or reading about it. He made the history personal with his own encounters, enthusiam and background. This experience gave us a feeling of really getting to know the nooks and crannies of this special area, by learning about places you might just walk by otherwise. A memorable day of exploration. And the food tasting was just as interesting and also varied and yummy. We are going back for dinner at one of the stops shortly to celebrate a birthday and maybe stop in at "#86" along the way. We're from NJ and plan to take more of these walks with you.

Definite Highlight to be included in your NY trip!

We had a great time on this tour, it was one of the family's favorite activities while in NY. (2 adults and 2 older teens) Food samples were larger than expected and included large slices of pizza, small pastries, pita kabobs, cheeses - bread - olives, matzah balls, cookies, candy, etc... The cultural information was interesting and we loved Greenwich Village. We'll have to plan to visit again to take advantage of the restaurant and night life advice! Walking was at an easy pace with many breaks for info and food samples.

Great Overview of Greenwich Village

Our guide Kurt was extremely knwledgeable and entertaining. The tour combines architectural and historical elements of Greenwich Village with those all-important "munchies" to keep you going for three hours. There was actually more delicious food than we could eat. I followed several of the restaurant recommendations for evening meals and was not disappointed. Schedule this tour at the beginning of your NYC stay to derive maximum benefit!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our culinary tour. Our tour guide, Kurt, was energetic and enthusiastic. He provided a well paced, enjoyable commentary throughout the tour, and we both felt that we learned a good bit about the Village in our 3 hours. We have already recommended the tour to our family members, and will do so to our friends as well.

Wanted to see and taste, and meet the chef kind of thing, less history...wanted to spend more time inside shops, and go inside to see products and buy..try some wines ect.

We all had a wonderful time on this tour. Cindy was an amazing guide giving us lots of history and "insider info". We even got to thank the developer of the Chelsea market for doing such a good job with the building!! The tastings were delicious and varied and we were all stuffed when we left!!! Can't wait to do another tour (the next time of Greenwich Village)!! I will make sure to ask for Cindy as a guide!! As a veteren "foodie" I highly recommend this tour!!!

The tour was great! I travel a lot in the US and internationally and I thoroughly enjoyed this walking tour. The information, the guide, and the locale were interesting. I took the tour on my first full day in NYC and recommended it to people I met in the city.

Greenwich Village Tour Was Much Better
Fri, Jul 22, 05   10:30 AM TrishaFederi Female 40-49 Local Family Without Children
A few years ago I took the Greenwich Village tour and I was somewhat disappointed with this one. The food choices were not as varied - we ate a lot of bread. And when we sat down for a "feast," having lemonade (I think it was blueberry) was the absolute wrong choice to mix with olives, salami, cheese and marinated eggplant - the whole thing gave me heart burn!! On the Greenwich tour I remember eating from an Italian deli, bakery, chocolate place, pizzeria (which was absolutely delicious!!) and a Middle Eastern place. The choices on the Chelsea tour were flat and without the same quality. The Greenwich tour was a few years ago (probably 3) and I still remember the food and our wonderful tourguide (Zora). I doubt I'll have the same recollection of this tour 3 years later. The tour in the meat packing district itself was skimpy and with no food. We stopped in the new restaurant, Nero's, and it would have been more interesting if we could sample food there or at some other restaurant outside of Chelsea Market. Any thought to doing a wine tasting either in Chelsea Market at the wine place or one of the restaurants?? Don't know if there are legal issues but thought it might be worth looking in to. Overall, I think the concept of a Chelsea/MPD tour is good but the specifics need to be reevaluated. I would not recommend this tour to friends. I have recommended the Greenwich tour without reservation.
