- This tour will take you to the places associated with the Welsh poet’s life in Greenwich Village. You'll see where he stayed, ate, drank, worked and performed, including where he finally died, while giving you a feel for the Village in the 1950s.
Some of the highlights on this 2-hour walking tour of Greenwich Village include: - St. Luke in the Fields, (Est. 1822) a church built on the water backed by farmland. The first warden Clement Clarke Moore wrote "Twas the Night before Christmas."
- The "Real Village," MacDougal Street, Minetta Lane of the speakeasies, Cafe Wha where Bob Dylan first played professionally. Bleecker Street, The heart & soul of 1960s music with venues such as Kenny's Castaways, The Back Fence, The Bitter End and the former Village Gate.
- Washington Square Park, surrounded by the campus of the largest university population in America, NYU. With a potter's field under foot, the infamous Triangle Shirtwaist fire site to the East, the great Arch by Stamford White on the North and the oldest tree in the city, Hangman's Elm (circa the 17th century) to the West.
- Patchin Place, built for laborers working on the Brevort Hotel in the 1850s, became the haunt of great writers. Located on a historic gated cul-de-sac featuring an original Shepherd's Crook lamppost, one of the first electric lights on city streets.
- The White Horse Tavern, an 1880's drinking hole for longshoremen with ships tied up nearby that reminded Dylan of his native Swansea dockland. "....out in the hooting bay". A writer's haunt since 1950s and place of pilgrimidge for Dylan devotees, it is still furnished as he last saw it.
