GREAT!!! MUST DO!!!

If you are local or from out of town this is a must take tour. It's a great way to see what restaurants are in Greenville, plus learn some history of the city. Meeting the Chefs really gives you a greater appreciation for what they do and the amazing food they create. I've taken this tour twice and have enjoyed it both times. The only negative I can say is the lack of drink tastings on my last tour. My first tour there was a specialty drink to choose from at every restaurant, my second one only at 2 of them. Even without the drinks it is well worth the reasonable price that is charged. I highly recommend this tour and would myself do again.

This was an interesting introduction to Greenville and a great activity for my visiting foodie sisters. A real value, too.

Very Enjoyable

Our group really enjoyed the culinary tour. Mr. Nolan was a good tour guide and along with enjoying the five restaurants, we learned quite a bit of the history of those establishments in addition to learning a lot about the city of Greenville. We did get to meet the chefs at each restaurant and also had the opportunity to observe one chef prepare a dish and best of all, we were able to sample it after he prepared it.

Great date night

We loved it! I felt bad for John as our group was much smaller than I think he was expecting (some people cancelled at the last minute) but he still graciously toured us and we had a great time. All the restaurants seemed genuinely glad we were there and were eager to tell us about our food and their restaurant. I am excited to try another food tour but I am afraid I will be disappointed after our great experience on this one!

Refreshing, Eye Opening Tour!

Our Tour Guide, John, literally took us on a Historic Cuisine Tour. He was so enthusiastic during the Tour of downtown Greenville, and was well versed in it's history. His 'Before, During and Projected Maps' of the revitalization of Downtown Greenville were definitely a plus. The guided tour complimented wonderfully with the Chefs choices of cuisine. Every table at every restaurant was beautifully dressed and beckoned us to sit and enjoy. The variety of foods offered was phenomenal. It was such a wonderful experience, and we were never rushed. The walking from restaurant to restaurant was paced so that everyone (a wide variety of ages) were able to stay together and enjoy each other's comments and presence. My guest and I are already planning to re-visit some of these restaurants that we would have never entered before this tour. I definitely recommend this tour and any others given by John to everyone who wants to have a great culinary experience mixed with local history! The food was Joyful!

3 meat dishes. very nice, but too much meat.

The first stop, the slaw with pulled pork and fried green tomato. The sous chef, had a wonderful outgoing character. Her cooking demonstration with an old burned pan did not impress me at all, or encourage me to enjoy the dish. The other stops were all very nice, and excellent cuisine samples. One point, the' tipping the guide' note should be on the ticket. We only saw the tipping advise after we got home on the handout paper, which nobody had time to read walking around in the dark. We surely will recommend the tour.

Wonderful Sampling of Greenville Restaurants
Sat, Mar 30  1:30 PM tjmelley Male 60-69 Combination Family Without Children
It is a great chance to sample dishes at the five restaurants included on the tour. You meet the chefs and learn a little background about them and their restaurants. You are given some idea about what goes into the preparation of uniques dishes, where they buy their ingredients and all their efforts to please the customer. With just the right amount of Greenville history thrown in, it was a very enjoyable and delicious event.

Fun Tour, room for a little improvement

This is a great tour, it gives you a sampling of some really great restaurants downtown, plus a bonus of a lot of history of Greenville. Note to everyone, DON"T EAT LUNCH before this tour, come hungry and you will be stuffed at the end. We even had to alter our dinner plans because we had eaten so much. On the improvement side, despite what the description says we didn't get to go into any of the kitchens or watch any of the chefs actually cook. I know it's based on availability but we didn't go into ANY kitchens or watch ANY cooking. We only talked to 2 of the chefs out of 5. It was less of the behind the scenes and more of a private late lunch tour. Still fun, just not what I was expecting based on the description. To the host, great job with the history. I would recommend a couple things. First, make sure everyone in your tour has a seat and food before you sit or begin eating. It happened at a couple restaurants where you were sitting before some of your paying customers (and turns out they didn't have a place to sit), or you had food before some of your PAYING customers (and they had to wait for the kitchen to make up some more plates of food). It wasn't me or anyone in my party but that can still put a bad taste in your mouth. All in all, I would recommend. I will probably be back with other out of town guests to show them what Greenville has to offer. I hope to see a few improvements by the next time I attend.

My out of town guests and I were not only charmed by the restaurants and meals we were served, but with the venue of downtown Greenville and the glimpses into the town's past. My only request would be that next time I take the tour (and I will) that the option exists to request vegetarian choices, for I had to skip several entrees.

A Blast for a Bargain

We had a great evening with friends at the Chef's Table Culinary Tour. It was a lovely evening full of good food and great laughs. We especially enjoyed our stops at Soby's on the Side and Nose Dive, both of which I had never visited before. The food was particularly good at those spots and the chefs were so warm and engaging. We definitely got enough food from the 5 stops. John did a wonderful job - he was enthusiastic about the food and the history of Greenville. He struck the perfect balance of when to lead us and when to relax with us. It was a super affordable, fun and informative way to get to try each of the 5 restaurants. Recommend!

This is an excellent way to spend a Saturday afternoon in Greenville. John is knowledgeable and willing to share that information. The chefs were all very interesting, and the food was fabulous. So glad I indicated that one member of our group has a shellfish allergy, as we had no problems in that regard. I understand that crabcakes and shrimps items are often offered, but that was not the case for us. I look forward to taking the tour again with future visitors.
