BEYOND EXPECTIONS

911 affected so emotionally and still does, I losed no one, and live in California but I lost my American innocense that day I was born the year after Pearl Harbor. The pictures Gary captured and shared in his museum gave my husband and I great comfort to see the pictures he took and the stories behind them. Of the scenes we never saw. The strength in all that were in involved in the rescue and recovery mission brought us both to tears. THE TIME AND RESPECT SHOWN TO EVERY VICTIM BY ALL THE RESCURERS AS THE WERE BROUGHT OUT OF THE RUBBLE PROVED WE ARE STILL A STRONG AMERICAN>

Small and Sensitive, but Powerful

The museum is very small, like somebodies living room, but don't let this put you off! It was packed with artifacts and outstanding photos of the recovery operation. You are given a short talk and then a short video, after which you are left to explore with your audio headsets. Each artifact and photo has a story behind it. A totally powerful and worth while experience and a great way to get personal with the stories of the people who went through this dreadful event. Thanks to the museum.

Emotionales Museum
Thu, Jan 8  1:00 PM danielab Female 20-29 International Tourist(s) Family Without Children

Overwhelmingly emotional

Initially I thought that such a small museum couldn't do justice to the subject. However the tour guide was amazing (she could really be a TV presenter!) and it was an added bonus having the photographer there. The videos get you into the atmosphere, and the recorded guides for the photos were just the right length and fully engaging. No doubt in my mind that this museum will preserve the memory of what happened on that awful morning and thereafter for many years to come.

A very moving experience

This interactive museum offers a thoughtful and sensitive experience of the 9-11 rescue and recovery efforts. The museum is very respectful of what an emotional response the photos will ellicit and therefore limits the tour groups to around 20 people or so, with plenty of kleenex to go around. You independently move through the photos and artifacts, which are numbered, by using a handheld control and headset. Gary Souson narrates each item with a story or reflection. Gary Souson (the photographer who docmented through his photos) was there for our tour group to answer questions and talk with everyone. This museum experience offers you a very real understanding of how the remarkable New York (and other area) Fire fighters, police officers and Port Authority officials worked tirelessly at the heartbreaking task that had to be done. Gary's spirituality and love of God shines through his photos. This is a must for anyone who wants to understand what devastation Ground Zero really was and the effect it had on everyone involved in the rescue and recovery. I give it an 11 out of 10!!!

Better than visiting Ground Zero itself
Mon, Jun 22  12:00 PM dananada Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
When you first walk into the Ground Zero Museum Workshop, you're not sure if you just wasted your money. That's because it's very small with lots of pictures you may have seen before. But, once you put the headphones on for the audio tour, you realize there's a fascinating story behind each one of these pictures. We went to the actual Ground Zero site the day after, and it was nowhere near as descriptive, emotional, or interesting as this little museum. Definitely make this a stop if you're interesting in 9/11. My mom and I went together and we couldn't stop talking about all of the stories. Although the subject matter is obviously heavy, the museum focuses on hope and remembrance. It's easy to brush the events aside or to not remember the actual lives that were effected. Once we remove ourselves from the emotional connection to the people involved in the event, we desensitize ourselves. That's a scary place to be. People, not buildings, planes, and terrorists, were involved in 9/11 - people with names, families, and lives. Don't forget them!

NOT TO BE MISSED

THIS MUSEUM WAS SO MUCH MORE THAN I EXPECTED !! THE GUIDE WAS TOP NOTCH . THE PHOTOS AND THE ARTIFACTS BRING FORTH SUCH A DEPTH OF EMOTION WHICH IS SO VERY DIFFICULT TO DESCRIBE. I PURCHASED THE BOOK SO THAT I MAY EXPERIENCE THE WONDER OF THE PHOTOGRAPHS AND STORIES FREQUENTLY. THE ENTIRE PROCESS AND MUSEUM WAS TASTEFULLY DONE WITHOUT COMPROMISING THE DEVASTATION OF HUMAN LIVES. THE ONLY REGRET WAS THAT I DID NOT HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO MEET MR. SUSON. HE HAS GIVEN THE WORLD AN INTIMATE INSIGHT OF THAT DEVASTING DAY. THANK YOU, MR. SUSON. NO ONE SHOULD MISS THIS MUSEUM. IT IS APPROPRIATE FOR ALL AGES.

I was deeply impressed...

I'm from Japan and 23 years old. When 911 happened on 9/11/2001, I was 15 years old. I was watching news about 911 on TV and couldn't believed that this is what happen actually. September 11th is really important for American, and people all over the world. We don't have to forget what happened there, a great many civilian lives were sacrificed, and 911 has been making a lot of victims in Iraq. It has been 7 years already since 911. Many people almost forget 911, but "Ground Zero Museum Workshop" reminds us, suggests many things to us. (I'm sorry I'm not good at English but I hope you understand what I want to say, how I felt.)
