Very worthwhile!

Family with kids ages 10 - 14. Enjoyed by all. They each said this was one of the top highlights of our 3-day NYC tour. The 9/11 catastrophe (virtually all focusing on the clean-up) is presented in a way that it made a profound impact and yet was not too emotionally devastating for my kids (who did not lose a loved one). Each of the many photos and recovered items is accompanied by a story. The exhibit is very thoughtfully done and makes 9/11 so real, in a way that just looking at ground zero cannot.

Personal Perspective of 9/11

This museum/workshop will show one an intimate and personal perspective of 9/11 from those who worked the recovery at ground zero in the aftermath. You get to learn about some of the small but powerful momentos found and see them first hand. A wonderful way to learn about what took place at ground zero after the devastation but equally heartbreaking to hear about the people who worked, lost, and passed away at ground zero.

A very moving exhibition

The 2 hour experience is extremely well done. The movie and explanation in the beginning provide an excellent backdrop and the detailed explanations thereafter using the headphones give concise and very effective explanations which clarify and move one beyond belief (and this is all done in one room). Very often one feels overwhelmed by the amount to see in a museum. Each artifact in this one room exhibition contributes qualitatively to both fact and feeling in a most respectful way making it a significant tribute to this very traumatic event.

Outstanding Museum that Everyone Should Visit

This was my first time in New York. My husband and 11 year old son, and I wanted to see Ground Zero. I found out about this museum and prebooked tickets. This is a wonderful collection of narrated photographs that put you right in the middle of the search and rescue. The artifacts that are there are filled with such emotion. The museum is filled with reverence and respect for not only those who lost their lives, but the families left behind. This is an amazing place and I would recommend it for anyone over the age of understanding. My son is almost 12 and he took away a great deal of knowledge from that fateful day. The guides are wonderful and available to answer all questions.

A little disappointing

After reading the glowing reviews online about this museum, my expectations were high. I think it is easier for foreign tourists to be a bit more objective about this museum, as apposed to domestic visitors who understandably are very emotional and much more devastated about the impact of this great tragedy of our modern time, which happened on their own shores. I love photography, and the images captured were very dramatic and moving. However, as others have mentioned in previous reviews, I felt it inapropriate that so much emphasis was on the the Photographer resonsible for these images. It was almost relegating him to hero status, which he is not. Just over an hour was enough for me, and for another american visitor, who precisely shared my feelings. I don't wish to appear critical, but this is my honest, objective opinion, and not one based on an emotional experience. It must be said, I was moved to tears during my visit. I would recommend this museum to friends, however, the glowing reviews to my mind, are not justified.

I went to this museum with my darling Chris who had been there in 2008. We were very very lucky that Gary Suson was actually present and we had the pleasure of meeting him personally. The museum is actually housed in his old apartment where he took the first pictures of the attack on the twin towers. The museum trip was fantastic and has some great photos and artifacts and some of the stories are heart breaking but not to be missed. We were there for about 2 hours and this is a visit every one should make when they are visiting New York. I would suggest doing this then going to see the ground zero site afterwards as it means so much more after seeing all the pictures and hearing the stories. Thanks Gary for all the photos and stories Gordon & Chris

My mother and I decided to visit the Ground Zero Museum on our yearly day trip to NYC. We were a bit hesitant because of the emotionality connected to the event, but are both very glad that we experienced it. It gives you an up close perspective that I really don't think you can experience anywhere else. It's a medium sized room with pictures and artifacts from Ground Zero. They provide you with one of those portable phone like devices and you punch in a number than corresponds with a picture or artifact and the photographer gives a narration. Everything is done in a manner that allows the museum goer to experience the aftermath of the attacks while still honoring and respecting the individuals that lost their lives and were involved in the recovery efforts. Using the device allows each individual to experience the museum at their own pace. The museum is a true memorial to that time in our country's history and to it's enduring strength and I hope will remain long after the site of the towers is rebuilt.

Thoroughly enjoyed the museum as well as the experience. It was great as an out of state visitor to have a connection to the 9/11 tragedy. It became more real to me and was done in a very positive way.

No trip to NY is complete without this tour

Ground Zero Museum gives tourists of any age a poignant and heartfelt display of relics from Ground Zero. It gives a pre-recorded video, and then time is given for an individually guided tour based on each person's preference. Gary's pictures are truly one of a kind, and the staff at the museum is courteous and extremely knowledgeable. I can not stress the importance of making this a visitor's priority to see.
