My niece and I found the museum very interesting and informative. Mr. Suson's photographs captured the pain and suffering of the rescue workers and honored the memories of the 9/11 victims with incredible sympathy and respect. The artifacts underlined both the devastation and hope that resulted from the attack. Having visited the Anne Frank museum in Amsterdam, Mr. Suson's attempt to recreate the mood and feel for the 9/11 museum was very appropriate. I would encourage anyone visiting NYC to visit the museum for an accurate and real view of what it was like after the attack both for the rescue workers and survivors. Thank you to Mr. Suson and the people who work at the museum - job well done! |

I was expecting a full fledged museum and not a one room museum with pictures that I listen to the commentary for. I think that I would've liked the 9/11 Museum better. |

We only had a 3 day weekend in NY and I would see this again if I had to do it over. My husband and sister both agreed. This is a very intimate setting and unique museum. Its format made its purpose very effective. |

The museum was a dignified, sad, but inspiring memorial to those who died and those who responded to the call to rescue. I think the museum should be given a permanent home that reflects its importance in how we remember and honor the event. |

When we bought the tickets to the museum, I didn't know what to expect. Then when I saw all the pictures and artifacts from the recovery, I was so sad to see closer up what those people went through on the day of the attack on the towers and the recovery efforts afterwards.
I would definitely recommend this to everyone. It's a must see so that we will never forget what happened on that day.
I thought our tour guide Lauren was great and knowledeable. We actually got to meet Gary Marlon Suson in person. That was very special since he said he's not usually there to give tours anymore.
Thank you for the hospitality and for the opportunity to share your memories. We will never forget 9/11.
Sincerely,
Gary and Michelle Robbins |

We all loved the presentation as well as the photography. We were emotional and touched by the beauty. The location however was difficult to find and the venue left much to be desired. We hope that the new WTC will offer a room for these very beautiful and inspiring photos to be displayed as a memorial to those who worked so hard and to those who lost their lives on Sept. 11th. |

Interesting event -- but I feel it's as much a study of the museum's curator as it is a study of the heroic rescue and recovery efforts. Here is exactly what happens -- you see a 5 minute CNN video piece about the musuem's curator, and how he came to take the photographs he did, and the various emotions he felt while working on the project. Then there's about a 15 minute video slideshow of the photos from the curator's book. Then you pass around three artifacts from Ground Zero. The first and second artifacts are crosses and Jewish stars the recovery workers cut from the steel salvaged from the site, and the third is a piece of glass from the WTC recovered at the scene (glass was very rare in the rubble --most of it turned back into sand from the heat). Then, you have about one hour to walk around the room, using your "TourMate" headphone systems. There are framed blow-ups of the photos you have just seen in the video, and each one is numbered, and you punch in the number on the TourMate and hear a brief story about each photo. There are also some other artifacts (calculators, calendars, clocks) which are also numbered and you can do the same for those.
All in all, an interesting way to learn about the WTC recovery efforts. Also, the workshop is located in the Meatpacking District, a burgeoning interesting neighborhood. Recommend walking down the street to the High LIne park after your tour. If you can't make the tour, might want to consider buying the book with the photographs. |
