Nice but too expensive

I think the idea is a nice touching one, however it seems to be a little pricey. You can go to much larger museums for a lot less money or on donation basis in the NY area. I think you would profit more on being a lower cost with more basis put on donations or purchasing the available items. I think it would have been more emotional experience had a person that may have been impacted been doing the presentation instead of two fairly young girls who were probably teenagers when 9/11 occured. Overall, good experience and nice to hear some of the stories behind the pictures and the items shown. Thanks for the opportunity to share my opinion.

Part of the Puzzle

The Ground Zero Museum Workshop had a fantastic array of pieces to both enlighten and provide a more complete picture of the devastation from 9/11. However I found the overenthusiastic smiling and cheerful hostesses not helpful in allowing me the space to absorb the magnificent details the place encouraged. And while the museum was full of treasures, the small size did not allow the space to be one with your own thoughts. I think it would be useful to have all the artifacts and pictures arranged in an order, so that one doesn't have to jump around so much when absorbing it all. In addition, having additional museum visiting times would be more beneficial and help to allow a more intimate and less crowded viewing. All this being said, the museum is definitely worth viewing, but rather as one more important piece of the puzzle. You may also consider visiting the official tribute center, next to ground zero. It also plays an important part in telling the story.

A moving experience not to be missed

We were slightly apprehensive about what to expect on this tour but it is a moving experience not to be missed. We decided that we could not visit New York without paying our respects to the people affected by 9/11 both in New York and around the world. The museum is intimate and the tour is carried out sensitively with visitors given the time and space to view artifacts and listen to commentary themselves. The staff were excellent and it is an opportunity to 'never forget' the victims of 9/11 and the spirit of the people of New York, as well as contributing to funds for families.

LOVED IT!

I found the workshop incredibly moving. It brought me to tears hearing the stories of those who lost loved ones. There was a real personal, intimate feeling with the type of artifacts on display, the commentary for each of these artifacts on the audio tour, and the small scale of the museum. I brought a group of international high school students to the workshop and they were touched deeply by this museum as well. I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting New York!

The biggest small museum in New York!

Not knowing what to expect and wanting an understanding of what happened during and after the period of time of 9/11, this was a perfect collection of artifacts and photography from the man officially named as what i would call 'the memory collector' Gary Suson for you google lovers. The room is a small apartment in the meat packing district (which is perfect as its next to some great designer stores, around the corner from Hogs and Heifers - the bar used in the movie Coyote Ugly and a 2 min walk away from Chelsea Market which is full of bakeries and places to eat/drink) The room is bright and full of wonderful unique photography and artifacts - from a clock stuck on the time of day to a rare thick sheet of glass, each photo/item has a number next to it, after the introduction DVD and an explanation of how the interactive room works you are left to your own devices to listen to the story behind each item, there are some amazing stories and simply stunning photographs. I truely believe this is a must for anyone who wants a visual and audio experience of the events on the day and the cleanup operation that followed 9/11. Thankyou

Thought Provoking & Emotionally Touching

This is the second best thing I did while in New York, second only to seeing the Lion King. I would imagine everyone's experience in this tiny museum will be different. However, for me it was so touching and thought provoking. My husband and I still bring it up once every week or so and discuss various photographs and tid bits of information that we simply find astonishing. It brings a new level of understanding and empathy for all those who witnessed first hand this devasting day. We thank you for allowing us a glimpse of what it must have been like. Our hearts and thoughts are with you all.

Being from another country, this museum opened our eyes as to how intense and devastating the 9/11 tradgedy was. I don't think enjoy is the correct word to describe the meseum however extremely informative better describes our experience.

Great hands-on artifacts

I would have liked to have heard more personal stories from the firefighters points of view, narrow misses, stories from people who were nearby. FF thoughts, before call, during, after. More about present health conditions. Present health condition in more detail of the photographer. I would have liked to hear about, in more depth, the role of the rescue dogs and how 911 affected their health as well. How 911 affected the city emotionally? Overall, worth seeing the artifacts and hearing the story behind the picture from the photographer. I would recommend visiting. I would also walk to Chelsea Market for lunch afterwards. Great shops, seafood, and dessert.

BREATHTAKING AND EMOTIONAL
Sun, May 9, 10   12:00 PM GIAYALA Female 30-39 Domestic Tourist(s) Family Without Children
Coming to New York for the first time since pre-9/11/01, I was curious, and scared, and saddened. I have seen the documentaries, seen the movies, and even remember the day it occured, and watching it on the news, but nothing brought it home like this museum. This made it real to me. To be able to hold some of the objects that were straight from the tragedy, hearing first hand stories, and seeing pictures, was just breathtaking and emotional. It was really difficult for me to relate to what went on, but here it was...real. It wasn't Hollywood overraction, this was real! This museum gave me chills, and a feeling of such sadness. I cried a couple of times because of the intense subject, and how they displayed it, and told the story. This is a small museum, but what a powerful experience! The worker there was so very nice and pleasant. She shared her stories with us too, and spent some time with us, answering all of our questions. I highly recommend this museum. Of all the places we visited in New York, this was the one I will always remember!
